Today's Korean Air Starleague 2010 Semi-Final A Winner Is

(T)Flash in his winning moment~

(T)Flash, "There's still a long road ahead of me"
"I'll work hard so that I can become the definite 'number one' player"

- You’ve now qualified for the finals two seasons in a row.
▲ I am really happy about being able to get to the finals two consecutive seasons in a row. Now, the golden mouse is left and I’ll make sure that I can win it.

- It must have been hard for you to prepare for two straight days of BoX matches.
▲ Though in interviews I spoke very confidently, to be honest, preparing for today’s match was very difficult. I didn’t practice as much as I would’ve liked so I was worried, but the games played out well and so with good luck I was able to win 3:0.

- You won all your games today pretty powerfully.
▲ I thought if I won yesterday’s games, I would be able to win today’s games too. With yesterday’s win, I gained a lot of confidence and my momentum has increased as well. Because of these things I think I was able to play well today.

- It seems you’ll never lose to protoss.
▲ Personally, I feel that my tvp is my weakest matchup. During practice, losing isn’t infrequent but for some strange reason, during my actual live matches things always seem to work out. I do believe compared to my other matchups tvp is my weakest, but this might just be because my team’s protoss are very strong.

- Did you predict you would win 3:0?
▲ Honestly, I thought I would either win 3:2 or lose. Because I knew (P)Pure hyung had a long time to prepare, I was feeling nervous, but for some reason, during the live games everything played out very smoothly.

- At this rate it seems you’ll be in both league finals again
▲ If that happens I think I’ll be ecstatic. It’s a record that’s hard for any player to set, and I feel like it's also a record that would be extremely hard for anyone to beat; I think it’s great that I’m already in position to set such a record. I’ll make sure that I can win the OSL twice in a row.

- Your playing style seems to have changed a bit.
▲ In today’s game, I did switch it up a bit. If the games stretched out to long matches, I thought it would be too physically exhausting for me so I focused on my timing pushes and I think that was on point today. Canceling my starport during the 2nd set was also a momentary decision. For some reason I felt if I just massed up units and pushed out, I would be able to win.

- Some evaluate you as the closest thing to the perfect terran.
▲ It’s quite an honor. I am thankful for such a label but personally I believe I’m still lacking. There’s still a long road ahead of me since I’m still young and growing a lot as a player. I don’t think I’m definitely the “number one player” yet, and I’ll only earn such a title by working harder.

- Between (P)Kal and (Z)EffOrt, who do you want to play in the finals?
▲ Because I’ve already played a lot of protoss, if (Z)EffOrt advances I think I’d be able to show more entertaining play.

- The OSL finals location this time has been decided to be held at Kimpo International Airport.
▲ Honestly I heard this news a month ago from the PD, and when I heard that I remember thinking I really wanted to get to the finals. I think if I win the finals at such a location it would be pretty awesome, and between my OSL victories I think it could quite possibly be the most memorable.

- Last words you want to say?
▲ I want to say thank you to (P)Stats and (P)Violet who stayed behind to practice with me despite the fact that it was the team’s day off. Also, after our team lost to Samsung KHAN in the proleague, I felt like our team was looked down upon by other teams, but from now on I’ll make sure that our team kills the other teams. Lastly, tomorrow is Parents Day (t/n: national holiday in Korea) and though I can’t go see them personally, I want to give my parents today’s win as a present. On top of this, I’ll make sure that I can win in the finals as well.

Flash being very kind to Pure in this interview, it seems.

And it's pretty amazing that in recent interviews Flash keeps saying he has a lot to work on in his game still. I'd love to see what better than his current form looks like. =P

rofl flash is so ridiculous...

he takes his manner a bit too far I think, I mean "I thought I would win 3:2 or lose", are you for rela? But then again I guess it's his never underestimating his opponents that makes him as dominant as he is. If Savior had had that mindset history might have gone down differently..

How do you know he is not being modest? How do you know he's faking it? Any actual proof? Stop being such a jerk. It's this mindset that has allowed him to be where he is know. When he won his first OSL he thought he was invincible and that he was perfect and guess what happened, 2 years of failing hard. The fact that he's always looking to improve himself and the fact that he is no longer underestimating his opponents allows him to maintain his dominance.

yeah I absolutely agree, I can see where SkelA is coming from cause it does seem weird at first but I think youre right, pro starcraft is soooo much about having the right mindset.

this is what separates him from other players atm.

he knows how hard it is to climb back up after a fall, it was evident from his tears after winning his second OSL only after 2 years. and he sure doesn't want to repeat that mistake ever again.

the starcraft world is so unpredictable and these guys practice almost 24/7 to get to where they're at. any decrease in practice time lowers your confidence in winning.

It IS slightly false modesty but he's probably trying to force it on himself. If you tell yourself you're awesome you're not gonna get farhter. If you tell yourself you need to improve you have a better mindset for getting better. pretty simple.

Its not about Flash only... like 90%++ of the progamers do this kind of interviews not because they are modest (ok maybe some are ) but because of their culture and being affraid so they dont offend someone with their interview.

Compare that to Stork who always talks what he thinks and isnt affraid to look down on a player . Remember the Kwanro incident. Noone got the balls to say something like that even if maybe half of the progamers thinking the same thing about some progamer they hate

Let Stork be a bad ass motherfucker that fails hard to the likes of Shine etc. and Flash be the "false" modest guy who win's titles. As a Flash fan I can live with that np.

It's probably not all false modesty you know. Although I'm sure he knows he's really, really good, the true virtuosos always know they can be much better than they currently are. That's why they're so dominant, because they never, ever stop pushing themselves.

Well Flash takes into account that he is still younger than most progamers to date and, as most Asians youngsters are taught to respect elders + suppress "negative emotions" (?), our boy Lee here is not an exception.
Not for me though. I respect elders to an extent and rage on a frequent basis.

imho his suboptimal preparation showed today, so i can fully understand his worries. i dont think it was fake modesty.

and being modest and striving for perfection in one´s own game, irrespective of the question if its even necessary to dominate or not, is the only way to get to the position flash is in now. if he would be satisfied with being the best, he would probably have stabilised at around 2350 elo and not even made it to the msl finals last season, exerting much less dominance over the sc scene.

Flash is just so awesome, funny how he still wants to work hard at being number 1 when not even JD can compare to him now.

yeah right Flash

Don't deny it

You guys are missing the point ^-^

Flash is subtly pointing out that Pure isn't used for Proleague.

Let's be honest, if I knew my opponent has no proleague duties, I'd actually be pretty worried. I'd probably suspect that my opponent spending all of his free time studying my play and coming up with some cheesy builds.

Flash knows what its like to be in Pure's situation. Many people seem to have forgotten that many years ago, Flash was one of those cheesy players with fairly unremarkable late game play. The very same people seem to have forgotten that despite the skill differences between himself and the top tier players, he was still able to boot Bisu, who was still with MBCGame, from the Daum OSL with pure cheese. He knows he has to be really careful or the same thing may happen to him.

Flash is being too modest. Well, at least it's better than arrogance.

Crossing fingers for Kal v.s. Flash final. While non-FvP makes good game, Effort's current ZvT shape is...dismal compare to his peak.

happy for him but I wish these matchups were more epic... I mean, it's an OSL semis and he has to bother taking out bums like pure??? Bisu, Jaedong, Stork, fantasy, Calm really need to step up next season or we'll be looking at the diamond mouse at this rate!

Oh please. People as good as Flash are allowed to have some arrogance because frankly, he can easily back up his talk.

Goodmannered all the time is entirely overrated anyway.

I, for one think people need to show more respect in general.
According to Reach, he is the fastest learner he has ever seen. He start bw only like 2/3 years ago. Infact, his bw history knowledge is so limited, he didn't even know what the map Guillotine was.

I like how the "Today's winner is..." space doesn't hide Flash's name.

I also like now nobody complained about it because we all knew the outcome of this series before it started.

But really, I don't see what's wrong with Flash being good mannered. Actually, I think every single person in the world should follow that example even if just a bit.

Seriously, nothing annoys me more than an arrognat asshole person who thinks they are the shit. It is nice to see that Flash is still down to Earth. It also means that he will be working hard in the future to set even more beastly records.

The only thing that he is missing now is pretty much beating Jaedong in bo5 (and of course a Golden Mouse)...

lol, even if flash beat JD in a Bo5 it would only bring him to 1-3. He's gonna have to show he can do it more than once, especially after the beat down last time.

Now being serious again. If Flash wins both leagues in the same season he will have a status of god. No matter the past and how many time he lost to Jaedong in bo5.

I just wish Pure played more intelligently against Flash. In game two on Eye of the Storm, if he had just taken out Flash's expansion at 12, he could have secured his win. And yet, he chooses to attack.. the depots...
The commentators were even noting that Pure had wasted Flash's time by harassing his 12 expansion. If he had just played a bit more with insight, he could have defended Flash's all-in Timing push and win at least one game. Really disappointing. But props to Flash as always.

Bleh, either way this OSL Finals is already probably going to be a Flash win. Kal and Effort don't really strike me as the players who can beat Flash at the moment.

Maybe Stork, Jaedong. Definitely not Kal/Effort though. Sure Kal did play Flash close, but he's lost like what? 3-5 games in a row against Flash?

actually theres nothing good about effort in the finals:
1.) his vZ gets analyzed even more
2.) he has to show some of his best build before facing jd, so he has to practice even more
3.) effort, as all players coming out of a slump, is hard to analyze.
All what KT currently needs is a Zerg and a second Terran

I don't think that will be an issue. It's like Flash studying Jaedong's match against Midas. If Flash looks unstoppable against Effort, then Jaedong will realize he has no hope.

Yes indeed.

I really don't know who Flash is going turn to to prepare for the finals.

Effort and Jaedong are Flash's favourite practice partners in TvZ.

There's much more to it than the initial build order.

Besides, Flash has been mixing it up quite a bit lately (e.g. valkyries, and the 10 base Sauron mech build he introduced against Soulkey).

▲ It’s quite an honor. I am thankful for such a label but personally I believe I’m still lacking. There’s still a long road ahead of me since I’m still young and growing a lot as a player. I don’t think I’m definitely the “number one player” yet, and I’ll only earn such a title by working harder.

Does he think anyone is going to take this seriously? Humility is cool and everything, and it's great that he's denying that he's perfect, but this is a bit over the top to say that he's not even clearly #1 right now. We're getting into territory where it's reasonable to ask if he's the most dominant player in the game's history. Come on Flash, you don't need false humility about that.

There are 2 reasons why he wants Effort in the final:

1. So he can get an ezwin Golden Mouse

2. So it would be practice for his only ACTUAL test... JD.

actually theres nothing good about effort in the finals:
1.) his vZ gets analyzed even more
2.) he has to show some of his best build before facing jd, so he has to practice even more
3.) effort, as all players coming out of a slump, is hard to analyze.

I don't think that will be an issue. It's like Flash studying Jaedong's match against Midas. If Flash looks unstoppable against Effort, then Jaedong will realize he has no hope.

Lol, studying midas vs JD? really? Midas played so shitty that the only thing to study there is what NOT to do as terran.

No kidding, after the first game I was pumped about the series, and then the rest of the games looked like what I imagined would happen if JD smurfed on ICCUP

Flash doesn't have any weakness against all three MU's. Jaedong is the same way.

Jaedong's vs. Terran is pretty bad for a golden mouse winner right now.

Actually, Jaedong's matchups are all a lot better than Nada's or July's, so what you just said doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

what the hell. this comparison makes no sense

Theres nothing to analyze really. He does the same thing each game and zergs die the same way each game

I guess if it's that easy every Terran doing those strategies has a 90% winrate.

Obvious troll is obvious

Wtf he basically just said how good Flash is. O.o wth lol he didn't even mention that Terran was easy to play.
I guess this is what you call irony.

He did make a stupid and really ignorant statement that was either just retarded or indeed an attempt to troll. He said there is nothing to analyze about Flash's TvZ and that he does the same thing every game. Flash does indeed open up with 1 Rax FE almost always, yes, but he uses a million different variations and transitions (sunken breaks, 4 Rax pressure, mech switches etc etc), and there is an enourmously vast amount of subtle details that are worth studying for every aspiring Terran (and Zergs as well, if they want to beat him). 1 Rax FE is an opening BO, not a specific strategy. There is a lot to analyze about Flash's TvZ.
I believe in the almighty Grötslev! -- I am never serious and you should never believe a thing I say. Including the previous sentence.

That is a good point. It's mostly nuanced stuff but that is what separates good from great. However, Flash has played enough TvZs within the last year that another series with Effort isn't going to give Jaedong any definitive answers his other bajillion games already haven't. He's not going to pull some tricky builds like Jaedong did last finals or first game against Midas. His last BoX series against Calm, Kwanro, and ZerO, I think he mostly 1 rax FE'd and adjusted timings based off his opponent's builds. Or he 8 raxed.
