Shark mentioned on HJ's radio show that he gets paid about 1,000,000 Won a month. That's about 870USD.

no wonder bisu left MBC for SKT...

Your salary depends on your performance. I remember reading that Sea gets paid 110k and Light gets paid 90k. But SKT does have a bigger budget.

110,000,000 Won is around the salary cap at MBC. They were paying July a similar amount in 2006-07 before he left for a far bigger paycheck, among other reasons. Yeah SKT and KT are the ones with massive budgets. Wemade and CJ pay well too.

About taking it seriously, HJ practices a lot more than is shown on tv. You don't improve from 90 apm to 110 apm in 2-3 weeks without putting in practice time. They only have 55mins of airtime each week, a lot of filming sequences get cut out.

are you serious? - - 90 to 110 is like nothing

to those who play at 200+, obv. but i remember when bwchart first came out and i started working on improving my gameplay and going from 90-110 was a pretty noticeable change.

Definitely, you can really tell the difference between 120-140.
It's amazing really, how much faster you can get with just hours of practice, I remember when I used to be in the 30's LULZ.
If Hyung keeps practicing, I think he would be pretty decent. He has the balls to back up whatevers he's doing and determination.

cant' wait for the new episode.

Yes I'm serious. =)

Hyungjun actually has a few other things to do in his day that might take up some time, oh you know, like rehearsals for the concert, filming for other tv shows, photoshoots, daily radio show etc.

Sea's salary is that high? Like...why? I guess SC is more about proleague than individual leagues the least couple of years though. Unfortunately. Mass games has made SC quite boring for me.

Do they pay for food and living in the team residence? Because if they don't just think about how much money they are saving since their only money outcome is going to be clothing...

Converter from google search says 110,000,000 Won is about 93k USD, which I would hope is liveable. Maybe the finding a decent place in midtown Manhattan would be tough on that, but seeing as he sleeps in a house with 15 other dudes, it just seems like stuff for his future. Being a retired and formerly successful progamer must be a sweet life.

Essentially progamers don't have much in term of expense, as their residence, food and basic necessities are already taken care of. All of their income are probably saved inside the bank. But of course, few progamers are consistent enough to keep a high salary for years. Even the savings that Bisu, Flash and Jaedong earned are hardly enough to sustain their life for more than a decade. This e-sport business has only been going on for about a decade, nobody is really sure what is the long term impact of such a career.

I hope Korea's income tax isn't as high as Canada.

90-100 apm is really the, get used to playing and I know how to do/micro everything range(still probably using mouse for the majority of the time.
about 130-140 is when you really notice the need for hotkeys and try to reduce wasteful movements.
180 is about the time your body takes over your mind and entering Progamming(or at least competitive) level.

phoenix: sharkeyanyi mentioned its 93k USD. in general the exchange rate is about 1:1000 so u jus take away 3 zeros from the back and u will get approximately the amount.
anyway looking forward to epi 5. i think episode 1, 2 and 4 were really really great, watched them twice =D

the show is great, and it would have been just as great with a different main character. it would be nice to see someone that isn't so girly either.

it's the idea and the freshness of the show that makes it, not hyungjoon himself. he's mainly placed there to use his exiting fanbase to drag in viewers. but of course there is a limited pool of celebrities that would be competent at SC. i would substitute him out if there was another good candidate

^ I mentioned this before... put in Kyuhyun from Super Junior. I think with him he can show more understanding about starcraft like builds... etc...

I dunno if Hyungjoon is girly (by Korean standards) but he comes off totally ditzy (?)... I think it's an act to draw in viewers.

Honestly, this show is like the show where Nicole (from Kara) goes to medical school kind of thing. But I think it has more effect than Nicole's show. He's using his "star" power to draw more attention to Starcraft, which I think things have come to a plateau for in Korea.

What's the point of watching someone (Kyuhyun) who's already really good at SC, there would be no "struggle". Part of why this is such a good show is that Hyungjun sucked in the first episode. Besides which, Kyuhyun is extremely shy and introverted when he's not with the rest of his grp members. The show would not work.

Just face it, the show wouldn't be even close to a big hit if Hyungjun wasn't in it. He's just too charismatic. End of story.

Kyuhyun's stage personality is also fairly bland, imo (sorry to any fangirls/boys out there). I'd probably get bored out of my mind.
