Hello TeamLiquid.Net!!!
This summer the D.C/Baltimore area was home to a host of TL.Net gatherings. On July 11th SuperiorWolf hosted the first LAN @ SeoulPc. The turnout was so great (25 people or so) and we all had so much fun I hosted a second LAN a couple weeks later at the same location. Both events were awesome. The location was awesome and the games were awesome and dinners were awesome...
You get the point, it was awesome.
On August 8th Haemonculus hosted a proleague finals viewing at her place which was loads of fun as well. Many of us watch proleague all the time but it's usually alone at 3 in the morning, to watch it with a dozen or so other TLnetters makes a huge difference. (Jaedong vs Fantasy day 1 game 1 was one of the best starcraft games in 2009- period.)
So, the summer is winding down but LAN'S in the DC/Baltimore area definitely aren't. The next event that I am planning is this event on Saturday October 3rd!
TL.Net October LAN @ SEOULPC
+ Show Spoiler +If you love SC, you better come...
WHEN Saturday October 3rd 1:30pm-11:30pm + Show Spoiler +
WHERE SEOUL PC Gaming Center www.seoulpcworld.com 4231 Markham St # 2 Annandale, VA 22003-3028 (703) 750-0450

+ Show Spoiler +
I know some people from earlier LAN's will be leaving the area for school. But I also know a few others who have been out of the area all summer and have expressed interest in joining us for future LAN's. I've had people express interest of driving/traveling from areas all over to attend a LAN around this timeframe... So here we GO.
Here's the tentative deal; The day will be EPIC. There will be an EPIC 1v1 double elimination tournament with prizes. We'll take cash donations for a prize pot and Louder has said he will be bringing other prizes as well - Yes Louder is coming, one of the WCG USA finalists this year and one of the best USA protoss players. There's some incentive to come if you didn't have some already... ahaha.
Dinner location is still being looked into but I'm definitely leaning towards heading over to Korean BBQ Buffet place down the the road at around 6:30-7pm. There's still plenty of time to take care of dinner though. First priority is I need to gauge interest level here because Seoul PC has requested we call about a month ahead of time with info of how many people we'll have and when. They don't officially take reservations but if we plan to show up around 1:30 on Saturday we can pretty much take over the main area of the place which is more spacious than the cramped area to the right of the LAN center that we've gotten in previous LAN's.
The rate of the place is $2 an hour. Everyone will have to have enough cash for the 8 hours or however long you plan to stay plus dinner. Dinner won't be too expensive and once we figure out the prices there I'll edit this post. Also I'll be raising some cash prizes from anyone interested for the TOURNAMENT pot. I'll be throwing in some for sure.
Sending out the PM's en masse right now and then I'm going to be down and out for a good 5 days with not much internet access. I'll be back in action starting Monday I just wanted to get this thread up while I have the chance.
Hope everyone had a great summer and hope we get a HUGE turnout for this LAN! I'll keep everyone updated and in the KNOW as we move forward. Also feel free to use this thread to set up carpools if you need to or who might need rides from metro etc.
cliffs: 1. Epic LAN in Washington D.C/Baltimore Area planned for Saturday October 3rd 2. Post in this thread if you can come or not or if you have any questions/comments/suggestions.

I am jobless (moneyless, really) and carless...
But of course I'll try to find a way to come.

Why always so far away T_T... I wish I could. (Meaning, I would show up if it were 15-20 minute drive, so I could just stop by and see what's up.)
|
Tentative people, CHANGE TO YES!
I'll be there, for fucking epicness fuck yeah.
Chated with louder a bit, prizes are going to be sweeettttt
|
I'm tentative. Obviously, money plays an issue (It'd be like a $200 affair when all is said and done) but I need some help: I'd be taking the NE Regional line from CT to DC. It comes into Union Station in DC. I need help getting from there -> LAN center.
|
i will probably be there, put me down for tentative until i'm sure i have no other plans (i don't think i do, but it's too far out for me to remember for sure)
|
Put me down as tentative as well. I'd really like to go, but I might have to be somewhere.
|
I've got class on Saturday mornings, so I will probably be late.
Put me down as tentative. I'm really bad at planning things in advance, so I likely won't know my schedule until next month lol. It sounds awesome though, and I certainly hope to attend!
|
Confirming myself. Pretty sure I have nothing planned on a random weekend 6 weeks from now
I'll have to double my iccup training for this one!
|
Tentative, here. I'd also need a ride from the end of the blue line again, *cough*storr*cough*.
|
i will be there,no way im gunna miss this one! had a blast at the first one gogogo DC lan!
|
I'll be there. So will Xeris.

Unless something comes up, I'll be there. I need to talk to a couple friends and see if they want to come, but I will post here and let you guys know.

I'm so there. See you guys at Mason.

Will anyone be going from Norfolk/Virginia Beach area? I really want to atten a SC lan (compared to my neighborhood DotA/WoW lans which sucks). Is there a bus or another mode of transportation other than driving by myself?
Willing to pay for gas+maybe some extra.

Where exactly are you coming from? I might be able to come scoop you up. It's not too too far out of the way for me.
edit: Since i'm a stranger and we've never exchanged words before and my car isn't very nice I can understand why you wouldn't want to D:

Hey Wala I'm going to school in Williamsburg so I might be able to give you a lift there if I go (put me on as tentative since my class schedule and pocketbook are uncertain). Otherwise look at Greyhound and Amtrak's websites. I know they have stations in Newport News.
|
Wow, there are a lot of people really close to me on TL. lol, I knew there were people up north, but not south of me. o_O
well not a lot, but a lot more than what I thought, which was zero.
|
Awesome!
So much response in only 2 days so far. We're looking to be pretty good so far. Turnout wise this could be GREAT. I think it's safe to say we've got 15 or so very solid possibilities and half my list hasn't even responded yet!
|
I wish the response to LANs was this good back where I live... The people there are so unenthusiastic about them T_t
|
We all know East Coasters are the best in the US. This is proof in itself.
Also, don't be afraid of meeting the other TL folk. When I went to the first lan, I found out that talking about how you don't like Jaedong got you quick friends / rivals and then at the second LAN, I made fun of TheRock and how he should stop going Two base carriers and instead doing one base carriers....also a good ice breaker.
See you guys there. :D

I'm in Virginia Beach; I still don't know this area well (after 3 years LOL) and live somewhere close to it's downtown.
The car won't bother me unless I'm immobilized for the entire trip, but to attend a lan I am willing to take chances ;D.
|
I'm gonna try and be there. I'll get on ICCup and practice a lot between now and then and try to get my APM above 20.
|
I should be coming this time.... SHOULD. Food is def the priority though for me. Korean BBQ! :D
Anyone wanna UMS it up instead of the tourney?
My 1v1 isn't exactly good... at all, and I don't really wanna play knowing I'll get raped in the ground. Plus, I pretty much only really play UMS now anyway, haha.
|
we can 2's and 4's and ect but i dont think anyone will ums unless its a micro map or something

People are free to play whatever they want when you're there. Standard 1v1 is going to be the primary focus this time around though. We played team/race wars last time and I only ended up playing 1 1v1 (which I lost) itching for a little more competitive flair this time.
I would hope everyone at least participates in the tourney though regardless of skill! the important thing is to have fun. LAN's are alot of fun.
|
Bump. The only SC I can realistically compete in is UMS. >_<
Maybe some 4v4s, dunno.

Doesn't matter how good or bad you are - it's about the environment. There's nothing more fun than playing in a LAN setting with fun people.

ohey, slight update. sometime in september (middle I think) im gonna have a lan at my house, ill update when i know exact dates and whatnot just wanted to let people know.

Sounds good salad make sure you keep everyone updated.
When I call Seoul PC in a week and a half I want to say we're gonna have 20 people!!! It's looking good! :p

I invited my girlfriend to come and at first she was okay with it but then I told her what it was and she laughed and immediately declined.

Word.
I might be in Stuttgart Germany for a month starting the second week of september, so I could potentially miss tossin AND Lucky's LAN.
I'll keep you posted. Assume I will be there unless I specifically say no. Also Tossin, where do you live? I don't remember.. lol

i can't wait for this lan ^^ by the looks of the list were in for one hell of a lan. Any one who hasn't been there its definatly worth coming out it was alot of fun and you get to meet some good people too.

Ah Torenhire that blows. But Germany sounds awesome. You have been downgraded from confirmed to tentative sir. lol!
If you end up going to Germany make sure to give me a ring a couple days before you fly out and we should grab lunch or somethinnn.
Oh and bribing gf's is probably not a recommend thing to do, especially if you intend to be there for more than an hour.... lolz.
Still over a month to go!

I think we can get 30+ people to go

They don't allow reservations for the entire place but there will be a good 30+ open PC's in an entire section of the place at 1:30 in the afternoon so there will be no trouble for everyone to get a PC. We'll probably end up taking over the place if we have 30+ which would be MANY people. :O

Put me down as confirmed.

Actually I might be going to Stuttgart for THREE months now, not one.
lol.

Wow three months is a long time. ur about to be downgraded off the tentative list altogether torenhire... oh wellz. lol. you'll just have to have a LAN while ur in Germany and get Mondragon and half of the mTw clan to come... haha.
|
lol they make so much money off us by now lol. should give us free soda or something

Dinner location has been updated into the OP. It's .81 miles from the lan center so it's a little longer of a walk but still doable, we can always have a few people drive if they prefer. Figure at around 6 or 7ish we'd head over there. They take reservations so that'll be squared away in advance.
|
How did this fall to page 4!
Giving the LAN center a call tomorrow to warn them of the chaos that TL will reign down on the place on the 3rd...
I'm gonna tell em we're gonna have 20-25 people, I think that's a fair number to shoot for. I'm bringing a friend too so that's +1.

I was in Boston all summer for an internship but I live in McLean so it's 20 minutes away...tentative leaning towards confirmed.

Hey guys,
Since Annandale is practically within walking distance of GMU I will almost surely be able to get over there regardless of the method. But is it possible for me to get a pickup? I'll be going to Baltimore the night before for a show, but I'll be back by Saturday morning at the latest. Perhaps one of my fellow GMUers can grab me?
Much appreciated,
Jamie

And yeah I figure a bunch of people forget, reminder pm's will be sent out a week before and then a day before for anyone and everyone who's even hinted at expressing slight interest in this.
Louder! Tell everyone exactly what your bringing for prizes! Storrzerg tells me some super keyboard among other things? We need to drum up more excitement for this! Also who's interested in donating some money for a prize pot for 2nd/3rd place etc.
I am.
Remember everyone needs to bring like $35 for the day to cover pc cafe expenses and dinner anyway. pc cafe is 2 an hour so if you come for 8 hours thats 16 bucks plus whatever dinner costs, I need to double check dinner cost, it's an all you can eat buffet so everyone just pays the same flat rate and eats whatever, should be cool I think it's like 15 bucks a head or somethign.

I hope I'll be there and I'll have prize pool monies if I am. I'll pick you up again LF if you want.

I've got a Steel Series 7G keyboard ($150 retail, best keyboard I've ever used easy), and a Steel Series Ikari Optical Mouse (comparable-ish to a logitech MX518 in size/grip).
|
Poor third place doesn't get a cool piece of gear.
I'll bring em my old G11 or something. It's got lots of pizza and soda stains on it but for most hardcore SC gamers, that'll fit right in with the rest of the stuff.

I will be donating monies, Lucky knows how I like to throw around the big bucks.
Edit - Lucky, put me down for rides, I'll go pick people up if they need me to, but I'd prefer just taking em to/from the metro. I've got room for 3 others, but one if people don't want to cram in the tiny backseat of my firebird. lol.
|
So ur sounding pretty confident torenhire, when will you know if ur moving to Germany? if u have to go just wait till oct 4th to move!!
Also we need to decide on tournament format, we can have group play into a bracket or just do what superiorwolf did a double elim bracket with winners and losers.

Just so everyone knows, I've practiced 20 games on iccup since the last LAN, so I will definitely win!

Okay. Well I need to know because In order to pick you up I have to leave MUCH earlier than planned. Shoot me a PM as soon as you know for sure.
Anyway, you can confirm me. All I need to do is replace my tires and take the appropriate days off of work.

Can you put me on the tentative list? I'm barely D rank, but I think it will be fun to go.

There are people worse than D- (E/E+ range) coming, plz don't let relative skill level keep u from attending this epic event.

This is me.
I haven't played ICCup since season 4 and I only ever play vs the computer. o_O
|
It's pretty far for me (about 4 hours), and if it's going to run until 11:30, I'll probably be pretty tired by then. I might go if someone can offer me a place to crash for the night, in case I feel like I need to.
|
LUCKY!
WHOAMG.
I'm leaving on October 5th.
CONFIRM ME, BABY.
|
Meh;; so much pressure that week/month
If anybody can pick me up (and preferably drop me off as well) again I say I can contribute some money, etc.
I live in VA Beach near the Va Beach BLVD (I think).
It would be a shame to miss this tournament because I might not attend another lan event until I'm in collge.

this is sounding ridiculously awesome. put me on confirmed...i'll definitely bring at least one and hopefully a few more princeton sc'ers. and if anyone needs a ride from nj, hit me up!
|
What is our cost going to be per player at the LAN Center?
|
$2 an hour for a PC. I'm telling people to plan from like 1:30pm to 11pm which is like 8-9 hours. 20 bucks should cover LAN expense... Dinner is my worry, 21.95 a head is eek! Overall EVERY person attending should bring at least 40 bucks (depending on how long u plan to stay, some ppl might stay till 2am... Some might have to leave earlier due to longer drive home etc)
And duckett omfg that's awesome. Shiet I just got off the phone with Seoul PC and told them 25 people, that might be an understatement now LOL...
Edit: lists updated, if ur on the tentative list if u can confirm, confirm! I gave most of the people reasons for confirming in the list... heh. :D
|
I doubt I'll be there for dinner, or for 10 hours I'd like to start the tourney as early as possible and after that people can have free game time or whatever.
|
Race wars was so badass last time.
Except that I was ALWAYS on the 2 person team in the 3v3v2 matchup. To be perfectly honest though, I haven't touched SC since the last LAN. Lucky, I can help take care of brackets and whatnot, so you can play instead of manage. I'll probably just obs the tournament anyways.
|
Thx Torenhire!
So Louder when do you plan on leaving then? We weren't able to finish the tournament before dinner last time and this time we might even have more people. :O
But last time was a little scattered some people were playing bo3's others were playing bo1's etc. I'll write up a clear format beforehand this time. plus if we start right at 2pm or so we should finish before heading for dinner.
|
Lucky, I agree with the time...
If you want to participate in the tournament, show up no later than 2:15. That gives me time to get a list of names going to start a bracket... Lucky and I will work on a tournament format to hopefully finish up before food time.
Maybe we'll start all "official" tourney matches at 2:30. 30 minutes is plenty of time for folks to warm up and me to get a bracket up.
Course master lucky will have the final say.

So does this mean
ETT IS CONFIRMED?!?!
|
Well there's def gonna be a ro32 in the tourney now that's for sure. Some people might get byes but we're def gonna have over 16. I might push it forward to plan to show up between 1-1:30pm so we can get started early enough. (like 1:45)
Should we do it like last time, double elim? That way gives everyone a chance to play at least 4 games in the tourn. As long as everyone stays on track and keeps the games moving it'll be fine I think.
|
maybe they will give us the other side this time so its not so hard to squeeze past every one
|
We'll be on the other side this time.

2 weeks to go. I'm gonna fire out reminder PM's to people soon, I'm sure a few people on the tentative list have completely forgotten by now...
|
Maybe we should have the first round be played off line ?
|
The entire tourney is being played offline in person at the lan center. I'm not even planning on making the bracket till the day of.
you show up and give ur name to torenhire who is going to be bracketmaster.
all these details will be worked out and put into the original post so people stay on track... If you want warmup time show up earlier.
|
is this place at all flexible with prices? $2 /hour is kind of gay... would they be open to a day rate? O_O;;
for example... the place I just had my SoCal LAN at also charges $2/hour but they gave me a rate of $13/8 hours.... which is slightly cheaper.
any ideas? if not I'm planning on calling these fuckers tomorrow cuz they didn't answer my email and I wanna finalize my LAN
|
I take it you've decided to host ur LAN here as well? What date. I saw the poll a little while back.
call them tomorrow. I've never asked for them for a discount/deal I dunno what their stance would be on that really.

Hey is anybody planning on showing up early? I don't know for sure how long it'll take me to get there and I am the kind of person who leaves unnecessarily early for things. So I'll probably end up getting there around 12:30 or so?

hm I plan to get there around 12:30ish probably.
|
I'll be there, but i'm bad
|
I will say it again and as many times as I have to...not responding to you in particular, Boardin, just people who read the thread and say they're bad and don't wanna go.
Skill should NOT be a factor in ANYONE's decision to going. I'm D- INSANOBAD (I play maybe one game a month...) but I am sososososo glad that I made it to these LANs. I almost pussed out on the first week with Superiorwolf but I went anyways, and it was a HELLA fun time. You also learn alot watching over people's shoulders and 99% of the people are very willing to sit over your shoulder and coach you through a game or two. (ETT Won't. "Hey Toren, you should be building a ton of valks to counter his tech swap from mass hydras to mutas." "what? you sure?" "Yeah, I do it all the time" )
No, ETT is helpful. BEFORE he's drunk anyways.
Being D- is okay in the custom maps as well. We did some race wars and team melees and it's all good fun. If you're terrible, just 4pool or 8rax or something on BGH racewars..that's what I did. Haha... Or find yourself a gosu partner (last time I was teamed up with CaucasianAsian and we split up jobs. Caucasian built a fuckton of depots and I spammed TTTTTTTTT on all of them. Easycakes and we won! :D).
Caucasian, if we do end up doing Team Melees after the tourney, I get you as my partner again. Our Terran reign shall conquer all! muahaha.

oh hell yes! I'm feeling more engineering bay rushes!!!!!!
but yeah Boardin, you should come 100%!
I also loved it when everyone went zerg on BGH and decided to 4 pool me. That was the quickest game i ever played rofl!
|
LOL.
Team Melee on fastest was awesome.
CaucasianTorenhire's engineering bays SHALL BLOT OUT THE SUN!
|
team melee is all fine and dandy but lets get the tournament format squared away!
So just like the first lan, it'll be double elim with 5 rounds, ro32, ro16, ro8, ro4, finals, every series is a bo3 with bo5 finals? Map pool iccup maps. Start on destination with losers choice?
Registration runs from 12:45pm-1:45pm with games starting no later than 1:45pm.
cool?
|
Think we'll have enough time for bo3 in the 32s and on?
BO1 in the losers bracket?
|
losers bracket BO1 until like the semi's/finals.
I figure we give like 5 hours for the tournament, an hour a round for 5 rounds allows for bo3's right? I dunno...
|
lol
We'll find out how many people are actually playing in the tourney first, guess we'll decide which we're gonna do.
|
ok it's settled then, winners bracket bo3's losers bracket bo1's.
We'll have time as long as people start playing at 1:45 sharp and keep games going.
|
On September 23 2009 09:01 Torenhire wrote: LOL.

CaucasianTorenhire's engineering bays SHALL BLOT OUT THE SUN!
It was actually Team Melee Capture the Flag on fastest ^_^
also i agree with bo3 winners bo1 losers
except that the last three games sets so 3/4 semis and quarters on the loser side should be bo3
|
i'm like 90% sure that i can come, u can put me down for confirmed,
|
OMG you guys are going to have one epic LAN!!! :D Wish I could be there!!!

yayyyyy Monkeyboi!
Superiorwolf it's gonna be SO EPIC WE WILL MISS U. :D
|
Man I'm so fucking pumped for this. I'm going to go 0-100 for the day but I don't care!
LuckyFool, I may need directions once I get kind of close. I'm coming from the south... (rt17 from home until 95, 95 until LAN) so once I get into the city I might need help because I'm absolutely not used to driving in the city. lol
|
The nice thing is the LAN center isn't actually inside Washington DC it's like a few miles outside (in Annandale) so it's not like terrible downtown city driving.
Getting to the lan center is pretty easy but call when u get close if u need directions. I'll send out a pm round a couple days before with my number.
|
Yeah, thanks man. I just don't want to end up being late or anything, even though it's not really a big deal, lol
I just have some OCD thing that makes me want to be on time.
|
Korea (South)11587 Posts
to get to the LAN from the south, you take 495 North (i think it's 495, maybe 295) towards Tysons Corner, get off on Little River turnpike towards Annandale (if you see Nova Community college on the left, you're going the wrong way!) then turn left onto Ravensworth and take the left after 7-11 at the light.
or you can mapquest/google maps it or get a GPS.
|
I already have the general directions from mapquest >_<
I just have a terrible habit of misinterpreting them once I get into the city. It's been like that literally every time I've ever gone into Norfolk. >_<
|
I live in Crystal city so I think thats pretty close. How is parking there? are they blocking off an area for us?
|
Parking is ezmode. 1a2a3a etc. There's a huge lot and the shopping center itself doesn't do great business on weekends, so there will be *loads* of parking spots available.
Alright, I'll go. Move me from tentative to confirmed! I'm not sure if I'll want to participate in the official tourney, or just play casual games, but we'll see!
Sounds like we've got an awesome crowd so far. Looking forward to seeing everyone there! ^.^;
BTW, I'll be driving from Bethesda MD, so if anyone needs a ride from that general area, or can more easily get to my place than Annandale, lemme know.
ORB IF YOU DON'T COME, I HATE YOU.

the place is in a small shopping complex so there is a parking lot there with plenty of space

Hey everyone. I'm about 80% sure that I will be attending, but this is the first time that I've ever attended an event like this. Is there anything of my own that I need to bring?

if you're more comfortable playing with your own mouse/keyboard then bring that. Haemoculus (sorry if i mispelled your name) brought her laptop last two LANs. a lot of people brought their mice/keyboards. I personally don't as I am quite versatile on keyboards/mice and i know i'm not going to win so i think as long as i'm having fun i'm good.
and you should come 100%.
The last LAN one of the guys who works there was like "holy shit, 25 non-koreans play starcraft? What the fuck?!" and then the owner was like "You guys are pretty good!"
Let's put 25 to shame, and let's bring 40!!!!!! Bring your brothers, bring your mom and your grandma, have them play! We will have a blast!!!!!! LETS DO THIS!!!!!

all you need is money for the lan 20$, some money for food when we take dinner break, and if you want to bring your mouse and keyboard you can but they provide you with stuff i like to bring mine though cause im comfortable playing on it.
lan is coming up soon its gunna be alot of fun can't wait!!!
Also for tourney, just a suggestion maybe just one best of 5 for the final match to determine the winner because the 2x bo 5 at the first time took up alot of time but its just a suggestion.

Not a bad idea... when Lucky gets back from WCG maybe I'll work something out with him... like as I am going around taking names for the tourney brackets, we can at the very least get a "PC NUMBER" so we know who is sitting where... also I'll be getting names of EVERYONE (even non-participants) and making a blog (maybe in conjunction with Lucky?) about the fun times.

Also, for people that also play games aside from starcraft, I'm planning on bringing my laptop, so I'm up for playing whatever.
And no, you don't get boo'd out for playing dota sadly. If you walk to the other side of the place, 75% of the people there not affiliated with TL are playing dota. So sad!
And I totally support sitting on the other side of the building this time. More room, closer to bathrooms and AC. Double win.

i agree that name tags are very nerdy w/e. I suppose we'll just have to say "hey wait, whats ur TL ID again?"

I was gonna just put PC numbers down in the brackets...
since you pay for time on a PC number, everyone will stay on the same one.
for example in binary beast it would show
CaucasianAsian PC14 Torenhire PC22
and then me or CA could easily find each other via PC no.

I've been ready since...

I do remember playing the SC Res hack on a 32 inch TV. So good LOL. ANYONE could have Olympic toss macro on that thing.

Well, come on and stop by. There are many D/D- players who are coming, I infact have only played 30-40 games since the last LAN. Plus there will be many fun games going on, and of course Korean Barbecue!
If you don't come, I'm going to hunt you down and cry in front of you because you didn't come!
Also, there are a few George Mason students who are coming, and i'm sure they can offer you a ride. I can as well if you'd like.

i actually think i go to school with luckyfool and storrzerg. i have another friend who recently started going to mason and he told me about them. storrzerg was in one of my IT classes and i actually saw him playing SC in front of me one time. LOL.

storr plays like 5 iccup games a season.
So anyway this shit should be epic I hope everyone shows who's supposed to. The LAN center is ready for 25 but if we have more it should be fine. Tournament is the primary focus. After the tournament whoever wants to go to dinner we will go.
I'll send out reminder PM's to all confirmed on like thursday probably with my cell (for the noobs who get hopelessly lost when they get near the center lol!) and also final plans and times and whatever else could possibly be important...

And after I get owned like 10x in starcraft I know my epeen is going to get angry and I'm going to challenge you all to dota because I own at that. So no you cant boo me out of the place if that happens... side note....

I got you, I talked with Xeris a bit about this on the way back.
If you and him can take the metro to Springfield station, then its very easy for me to pick you up. And i could probably drop you off when the lan is over cause its going to be late with little or no traffic

it better kick as much ass as the first one!
and definitely count me out of the tourney, im really really bad but still love the lans =)
|
Korea (South)11587 Posts
in the OP, it says it'll cost like $20 as it's a buffet so you can eat as much as you want, and i've been there once before maybe a year ago, and there was sooooooo much variety of foods, ranging from soups, to kimchi, to whatever they grill (bulgogi, galbi, etc...) kimchi pancakes, etc... and they also have some types of desserts.
|
It's like a 10-15 minute walk if we walked. .7 miles or something . I'd rather walk personally but we can do whatever.
|
you can walk there but it's still kind of far most people will probably want to drive
|
We should probably walk there as we'll be sitting in the LAN center for hours LOL.
I know I'll need a leg-stretch. Plus walking to/from and during dinner is a good time to get to know people outside of TL/Starcraft...the Seoul PC "regulars" now all know each other fairly well.
But if people want to drive, no one will stop you.
I need to hammer out the last bit of tournament information with Rob (Luckyfool), but I also need some input from you guys.
We'll be doing a BO3s... Rob and I are going to pick a map pool (edit out the rest cause I can't read our own organizing PM... good call on the tournament master. Hurrrr )
Also, if a few people could DL the ICCUP map pack and throw that stuff onto a thumb drive, that'd help. ESPECIALLY tournament players in this regard, as you could show up at 1:30, and then spend the 15 minutes till tournament starts putting the ICCUP maps onto your PC (the LAN center doesn't have them...well, some of them might from our previous LANs, but don't count on it) and warming up for your first match. I'll probably have a thumb drive with it all installed so that people who forget or don't have a USB drive can just borrow mine.
I will probably send out a PM with more in-depth info on the tournament specifics on Thursday... Work has been HELLACIOUS the last few days and I have been putting 15 hour days all week so it might be Friday worst-case. It'll have information about maps, and how me and Rob plan to streamline this process as much as possible. Last two times we had people FLY through brackets and then some guys who had a long series would get people confused and blah blah... so we'll figure something out to make it a little easier on everyone. Trial and error amirite? :D
|
im down for some drinkin but i don't wanna have to drive home all wasted(1 1/2 hour drive) thats all thats stoppin me and preferably after dinner but we will see how it goes.... can't wait for the lan
ps: i think we should set a map pool cause i don't think most people know every map on the iccup map list they got alot of shit on there, should pick like 6-7 maps, my picks would be courage stuff and like a few generic maps ( desti, medusa, heartbreak, bluestorm, python, longinus, tau) i couldn't imagine any one bitching about those maps a little something for every one
everyone has gotta like at least 2 maps on there and if your playin best outta 3 with loser choosing a map then if works out good i think
|

BO1 Double Elimination. Like our first LAN.
|
toren, winners bracket HAS to be bo3 in every round.
losers bracket bo1 until finals.
edit: I specifically outlined this in the pm's I sent out too. We have no time limit. I also am totally unsure now of how many people will be descending upon Seoul PC for this kickass event. Definitely over 30 now. some people are bringing friends, others are carpooling with like 4 people, I was in Op )tot( just now and some random dude who's laddering for ASL msgs me "MD LAN is this sat right? I'll be there. lol!
|
Oh, my bad, I misread the PM. It's bedtime, I woke up 22 hours ago to go to work.
We've got a shitton of people going, holy crap LOL.
|
i hope we have reservations for dinner, 30 people is a crapload to bring to that buffet place.... and most of those are super crowded on weekends...
|
yeah good idea but the sucky with that is it locks us into having to go to dinner at a set time.
will def call them though.
|
Oh god bo1s?
can we have like quadruple elimination or something...
i guess after getting knocked out I can just play 2v2s all day
|
On September 30 2009 14:13 LuckyFool wrote: yeah good idea but the sucky with that is it locks us into having to go to dinner at a set time.

it's worth it.
we really don't want to count on them magically having space for 30, and they might not be able to clear out space like that even if we call ahead. We should definitely get a reservation made asap... accommodating that many people is a nightmare for a restaurant and we should be courteous enough to allow them to prepare imo
|
It's bo3's everywhere in the winners bracket! and bo1 in losers till semis-finals.
and I'm calling the restaurant tomorrow telling them 30 nerds will be there on Saturday at like 7pm.

For the most part these will be people I've seen at the other LANs. I've probably forgotten everyone's real names. So no, for the most part people don't really know each other. They're just random names on TL, ^.^

not really, i mean we kinda know each other from the past lan or two.

skip your plans, this is obviously so much more important
|
So fucking psyched. If we have a lot of people I'm gonna end up laughing. It's going to awesome if that happens. We need to get lots of pictures, for sure.
|
So I have 21 confirmed on TL, 6 or so from New England area (maybe more?) duckett with princeton gosus + 5 or 6 random friends of others, = 40ish total? There are alot of people unaccounted for I'm doing alot of guessing when making reservations and planning.
Not sure how many friends or exactly how many are coming from New England area.
lol.
I called the buffet place couple days ago and told them around 30-35 for dinner at 7:30pm on Saturday, if we end up having way more than this for dinner we will have to just split into different dinner groups cuz there aint no way a larger group than 30 would all go to the same place at the same time. I know some people said they wanted to leave early or skip dinner or whatever so we'll end up playing it by ear I suppose.
Also I had question about maps for the tournament and we can discuss it for like a day if we need to. What I'm saying is every round first match starts on desti and then loser chooses between like 5 or 6 basic maps:
python, colo2, othello, tau, blue storm, desti
cool?
loser bracket both players agree on a map for their bo1 and if they can't agree bracketmaster torenhire chooses for them.

superior where is the movie you were going to make?
|
|
|
and just for people who don't check the OP (crazy nubs), Lucky posted up what's been worked out for the tournament.. Like he said, NOW is the time to ask questions and whatnot.
TOURNAMENT RULES
-Standard iccup game rules apply. No allied mines etc.
FORMAT:
32 player double elimination. Bo3 winners bracket. Bo1 losers bracket until semis/finals which is bo3 again. MAPS: Destination, Python, Tau, Blue Storm, Colo2, Othello, (Other suggestions?)
sets start on destination with loser choosing. Loser can choose any map from the list even the one just played. (If I lose the first game on desti I can choose desti etc)
Rules Official/Bracketmaster: Torenhire
Prizes: the following is tentative and subject to change but this is what we have so far more or less:
Steel Series keyboard and other gear, razer mouse, and at least $200 confirmed cash (probably more because we will take donations on gameday as well)
Oh shit we forgot loser's bracket map rules. roflcopter. We'll figure it out tomorrow afternoon.
|
I'll just keep the OP updated with tournament stuff at this point sending out another round of PM's is too much trouble plus we have a bunch of people coming who aren't even on my PM list.
I guess loser bracket will be assigned by round? ro32 losers desti, ro16 losers blue storm, etc? That should work. I'm just throwing ideas out there.
|
That'll work. We can find a good map rotation..
and maybe not start the BO3s on desti every round? people might get tired of starting there... up to them really.
We'll know more as the day goes by, it IS one am after all.
I finally got home, too. lol.
|
sounds good.
maybe have each round start on a different map and just parallel losers and winners brackets for same starting maps.
|
Just have Xeris run the tournament... much better.

Sounds like fun was had by all, ^.^;
I had a sub-par time as far as actual gaming was concerned, lol. But it was great to see everyone and be in such a fun environment!!
So we get there, and I bring my laptop as per usual, but for some reason I can't get the internet at the cafe to work with it! Gah! So after about 30 frustrating minutes of fretting with the computers, different cords, and probably causing the guy who worked there a lot of troubles, I gave up and reluctantly used their computers. So I hook up my mouse, and head to the bathroom, and...
Someone pissed *all* the fuck over the seat. Off to a wonderful start! lol.
So I start playing my first games on the house computers. I instantly start raging at the keyboard. The shift key doesn't work. The left control key gets stuck down. The 's' key is hard to push. Where my right control button is, is instead a *second* windows key! I probably alt-tabbed out an average of 4-5 times per game T_T; And then it's too big! On my laptop, I can reach all my hotkeys with just my left hand, and I don't have to take my hand off the mouse. On the keyboard there, I can't reach 6!!! Fuck!!!
I win my first round matches, and promptly lose my next. At this point I pretty much rage-quitted and went to a friend's place to play halo and let my nerd-rage burn off. I came back for dinner, and we had a lovely meal.
So I probably acted a bit bitchy today, but oh wells, I had fun. Sorry if I pissed anyone off! lol

Oh god yes . I'm starting to think most of their keyboards haven't been cleaned in forever, so all the big keys are sticky and disgusting. Something is wrong with the feel too, I was always pressing keys 1 to the left of the one i needed, so sieging and mining was a nightmare (or maybe i'm just that bad lol).
I'm starting to hate their setup more and more with each visit unfortunately. The smoking and dim lighting are really big downers for me personally - guaranteed headache within 2 hours.
PS: haven't played a single TvZ this time - where are you zerg players?
|
Wish I was able to be there! Sounds like it was pretty epic. Anyways, since you guys are getting so many people and such high turnouts, I highly recommend that you guys find some way to rent out a room or a school gym or something - it will be a lot better atmosphere and a lot cheaper. I remember when I was there the stuff was already bad, sounds like it needs a change
|
Jesus that place was ass bad... it sucks there isn't anywhere better or cheaper. Seriously, it smelled like smoke throughout the whole place, I thought I was going to die. On top of that there was this fucking Korean asshole who was chain smoking RIGHT next to me for about 3 hours, literally holding his cigarette on my side of the desk... I had smoke blowing right on me for a long time.
Fucking disgusting.
|
Yea, it's a pretty bad place. It's crowded and sooooo dark which sucks because it makes the atmosphere just worse in general. The keyboards suck pretty bad too. When I was there, Mona sat across from some chain smoker as well and the smoke went through the "wall" into her eyes o.o. (Why wasn't it like the goddamn high-tech PC thing in the picture?!?!? They LIED!) You're organizing a LAN in November right? It will suck to do BYOC for some people, but it beats that atmosphere and bad keyboards. I'm pretty sure if you ask some schools or something they'll let you rent the gym or something, but you'll need to have a lot of networking smarts to get routers set up and everything. It'll be more work but probably much cheaper and better than SeoulPC.
Just some suggestions though from what I've been thinking about. I can understand how difficult doing stuff like that could be, and how complicated it would be.
Edit: And damn, you guys finished early this time! What, 11 PM? Last time it was like 3 in the morning LOL XD.

Ugh. I'm a jerk.
Wanted to post earlier but schdules were flying all around the place, but long story short, I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it today guys. Especially with all the names we had flying around apparently, Louder/Xeris/Slog! Wow!!
The new Mrs. and I recently found out about a program that would allow us to buy a house before we'd have to renew our lease, and still be eligible for the $8,000 tax credit, but we basically had to find a house ASAP and get the ball rolling ASAP. Today was unfortunately the only day that worked for everyone, but to sum up, we found a place and put a bid in for it. There are few things I would cancel on you guys for, so I hope everyone understands... I *promise promise promise* I will be at the next event (work permitting)!

It's very doable. Just need a 24-port switch and 24 ethernet cables :D. And around 15-20 power strips. It's worth a shot since a lot of people have laptops and others can be carpooled for BYOC. Not sure how we'd hook up the internet connection, though, through the school or by wifi ?

Accccccccccctually...
Funny you say that.
The Mrs. knew I really wanted to go today, and she really wants to meet TLers, the first thing she suggested when we get the new place is to invite TL'ers over to game and hang out. Biggest problem is that where we intend to move to is in the opposite direction of the Seoul PC - in fact it's almost on the border of Delaware. For the Virginia folks, that means a drive of at least 2 hours, and I know no one wants to drive that.
Edit: This would be the area.

Hey everyone, I'm going to make a recap of everything that I'm aware happened. Some good, and some bad!
First off, I was about 5 minutes away from Seoul PC and realized I FORGOT my camera back at college. T_T So I wasn't able to take pictures nor videos. It would have been awesome to get a giant group picture, but once again, I wasn't able to do such a thing without my camera.
Anyways, once I get there, there's already like 20 people there! Lots of new faces, all of whom were awesome. Slog4 showed up with LastShadow and a friend of his (sorry I can't remember his ID). Then Louder and Xeris showed up, and it looked like this was going to be a blast! The tournament started a little later than expected due to BinaryBeast failing because of random shitty reasons, so Xeris made the tournament on WGT Brackets.
Games started off, I got a bye as did Louder. Then me and him played and I offraced as protoss first game, and got destroyed (obviously). Game two I tried a delayed 2 fac build after he stole by gas and proxied a factory. He pressured me hardcore so I really was way too far behind to even get an expo up and gg'd.
Crescentia/Duckett and a bunch of other Princeton players showed up which was awesome, and are cool guys. Too bad they were too late to join in on the tournament, I hope they all still had fun!
Then I played Hatchetwound in the loser bracket (only bo1) and the game started off a PvZ on Destination. I did a FE and did a lot of harass with corsairs and got my 3rd up. I destroyed his 3rd and his mineral only, and was sure I had the game won. Yet, He comes out and everything I throw at him, ultras/zerglings just put me and him at playing even field for 30 minutes. Eventually he gets another expansion and I run out of minerals out of all 5 expos of mine and so I built one final 200/200 army complete with zealots/dt's/goons/dark archons/archons/templar and maelstormed a ton of his army, killed it, and yet out of seemingly no where he has like 6 ultras come to save him and as I'm out of minerals I can't defend and GG.
After that Nyoken shows up which was cool, and everyone watched the semi-finals of LastShadow vs Tossim and Louder vs Slog4. All of the games were very exciting to watch and a ton of fun. Then we got a few Team Melee Capture the Flag games which are always a BLAST!
During the time we were waiting for the games to finish up, I sit down and get on ICCUP and do random/fun builds against D/D+ players including the stove, SCV rushing into lifting off my command center into bunker rush etc... They were all fun, and were full of laughs.
After that, everyone but Nyoken/Slog/LastShadow/Tossim/Louder/Xeris went to the Ill Mee Korean buffet and had a good time, lots of Korean BBQ.
When we get back, Louder/Xeris/LastShadow/Nyoken/Tossim had left and were no where to be found, seemingly having gone home. When we got back, we got into a lot of random UMS games that went on for an hour or two, followed up by a 5 game PvZ of me against StorrZerg.
Overall, it was a fun experience, and definitely worth the 4 hour drive I did from college. Would do it again! Sorry I didn't take any pictures!
Also if anyone wants some games on iccup/fun games then add me as [FR]Anansi on ICCUP. Hope everyone had a safe drive home, and got a good experience (despite the smoke, for those non-smokers) out of it and made some new friends (i sure did).
|
Jesus long post lol you getting on icucp?
edit nice read though
|
Just got home. Only took two hours to get home (yay for no traffic).
Had a lot of fun meeting you guys. Sucks I didn't get to meet everybody though. I agree with the place being wayyyy too dark and I regret not bringing my own gear too. I had to put my wallet under the keyboard so it wouldn't wobble all over the place. The smoke bothered me a *little*, but only because I felt the ventilation in that place was piss poor. I'm a smoker so I can't really complain too much. I'll try to upload the few pictures I snagged tomorrow. It's mostly the people I sat next to at dinner and went to and from there with. I hope the next LAN is either there or somewhere very close because that drive was just as far as I feel comfortable going.
Also went on a neat little tour of the town with some of the fellas. We needed some motivation going into dinner and 'sight seeing' seemed like a viable option at the time.

I know for sure that Beachac lost his glasses. I don't remember if he said they were sunglasses but I think that may be the pair that you're talking about.
I had to go back into the place like 3 times because I kept forgetting stuff. >_<

The LAN was a great time. As a newer player I learned a lot, had a good time, and even managed to squeeze out a BO3 win. The place wasn't THAT bad. It was a bit dark and the keyboards/mice weren't that great. But I brought my own stuff so had no issues. I would go there again... i mean its only for one day. Smoking would be annoying if it bothers you but didn't bother me, besides half the TL crew was there smoking... it was no worse then a bar. In any event my ICCUp name is boardin please msg me to play!
Also for those who wanted heroes of newerth beta invites PM me your email... i have about 50.

supppyyyy <3 yeah i had to leave super early bc i was driving back to nj and ofc since i was gone, they had to close up shop >.> also the other times there was always some super intense proleague thing going on that night like boxer playing in proleague playoffs etc... it was kinda tragic that most ppl (including me i was hungry >.<) left for dinner during the grand finals though...

Hey guys,
The LAN was freakin' sweet, glad I could be the token 5pooler. Like Storr I'm definitely local, and would love to come to more of these things. As someone who plays on my laptop, BYOC appeals to me, but I'm down for whatever C:
Krackling is a really old name for me, on ICCup I'm nph.MIDI, i'll make sure and find some of you on there.

This problem will not happen again. I will definitely have a camcorder with me on the 7th at Netolic and I hope many other people will bring their own cameras.
