General Information It's time for the biggest league of the year again. The league that every team covets above all other leagues, where teams get to show off not only their star players, but also train their players of the future.
The 2008 Shinhan Bank Proleague is not about separate players, and it's not about single victories, it's about teams, and how teams come together to produce consistent results.
Last year Lecaf showed that their repeated use of key players, along with a strong team game, gave them the edge in the end, but who will win this season? Which team has both the strength and the determination to battle it out for six months, five days a week? Only time will tell!
Teams There will be twelve teams this season, the same twelve from last season. No changes have been made to the teams, although many line-up changes have been made. Click on the image below for more details
Format The Proleague 2008 season is a transitional proleague between the old format, and the new 2008/2009 season which will have a completely different format. As such, this season is equivalent to half of last year's season, with two matches being played between all teams. This works out to a grand total of 22 matches per team, or 132 matches in total.
Each match consists of potentially five games, with the team that first gets three wins, winning. The matches follow the following set pattern: 1v1, 1v1, 2v2, 1v1, closer. The players for the first four games of each match are announced before the match begins, while the players used in the closer are decided if a closer is reached.
Players can only be used once per match. Closer matches are the exception to this, in which a player can be used for a second time during the match.
Schedule The proleague will be played five days a week, from Saturday to Wednesday. Only on Thursday and Friday will no games be played.
Two matches will be broadcasted per day, one on OGN, and one on MBCGame. With two matches being played per day, there will be more proleague games played per week than the MSL and OSL put together!
Maps For this season we have been given four new 1v1 maps, and one new 2v2 map. Added to that we have updated version of Blue Storm and Katrina in the 1v1 section, and we see the return of the brilliant old Hunters in the 2v2 section.
To view more detailed information on these maps, simply click on their names in the image below.

Thanks to SonuvBob for the detailed match statistics. This really saves me a lot of time!
Finally, I would also like to thank KizZBG for the wonderful banner as usual. I love it!
I hope you all enjoy this season, and keep on commenting! Cheers.

Really well done!
One little thing you could do is change the "pts" to "+/-" in the team standings.

I was waiting for this.
I like the charts/images. =D

Awesome thread. The sheer amount of information that these Proleague threads rack up is just amazing and you do a great job of keeping it all in order. Thanks Daigomi, Pachi, and KizZBG for all the work you have done with this stuff!

this is superb. the rounded corners + font + bright primary colors makes it seem very simple, and not stressful at all.
for the statistics chart, will you add a note to show when it was last updated, so we can know if it includes today's games or not?
|
goddamn, this is the cleanest and neatest R&S ive seen. awesome work, guys.
|
Very well made. You amaze me Daigomi.
|
I can't wait for the statistics to start coming in! Last seasons proleague update news posts (as well as just all the information in the R&S thread in general) were probably the entries I looked forward to the most.

Yay! I've so been looking forward to this - it looks stunning! I think this Proleague season is going to be very interesting and exciting. Thanks Daigomi for a great R&S thread

sexy as always Daigomi
btw, what day of the week do you plan on updating this?

Hmm, SKT1, WeMade, and Air Force Ace aren't doing that well, didn't expect SKT1 losing this bad.

I have ACE's individual statistics (Overall, vT, vP, vZ + 2v2) for the season from my coverage on another site. PM me if you need them.

Thanks WC, I do have it as well, but I'll be automating the service so to speak over the weekend.

How are points calculated?
|
It is individual wins minus individual losses. So two teams could be 3-0, but if one won 3 matches 3-0, and another won 3 matches 3-2, the team who 3:0'd would have 9 points, the one who won 3:2 would have 3 points.
|
Btw. When are the players playing announced?
|
What determines the winner of a season? Matches won or games won?
Points seem to be calculated according to games, but I felt that winning matches was the point...

Points seem to be calculated according to games, but I felt that winning matches was the point... ranking is based off of matches, and if there are identical records then the team with the higher point value based on games would get the go-ahead.

LOL
KTF will be first place I think.
edit: no, still second :< MBC keeps first despite failing against ACE.
|
Ah, ok. That makes sense. Thanks LosinglD8!
|
HERO's just had a hiccup, it matters not. Perhaps they were just being charitable to poor ACE to help them get out of last place.

Hmm, WeMade looks dangerous against KTF, especially Mind vs Flash, that one is very hard to predict. Although Flash is atm a better player, Othello is a very open and dangerous map. Hmm...
And Reach + Yellow! Go go!

great thread, as usual. PL deserves it. Thx a lot

Anyone else see ACE > OGN possibly?
DaezanG proved he can PvT with some of the best in beating Sea (Who, BTW had a 60% + TvP record), BoxeR's a TvT snipe basically and OversKy is 2-0 vs. Luxury lifetime. 3-1 ACE anyone?

Definitely possibly could see that happening. I just wish there was a liquibet so that I can show my faith and rectify going against my gut and voting for MBCGame last match then regretting it every second as I watched ACE salute their way to the victory!

what's the Gain column in the team statistic table?
|
I don't quite understand the "race" column for the 2v2 teams. It might make sense if both races were shown, together with a diagonal colour split or something. But having only 1 race shown isn't very informative. Of course everyone could look it up for themselves, hehe.

I'm not sure exactly why Zerg is considered a staple of 2v2 teams, but I guess they have good early game with 'lings, and mutas are good support units later on.

Movement on the rankings since the end of the last week.

In the 1v1 rankings table shows pure with 3-0, if my memory is good he lost in ace match against much CJ vs Wemade

Nice R&S thread. I didn't know SKT1 was 2-3 I thought they were doing much better than that T.T

DaezanG proved he can PvT with some of the best in beating Sea (Who, BTW had a 60% + TvP record), BoxeR's a TvT snipe basically and OversKy is 2-0 vs. Luxury lifetime. 3-1 ACE anyone?
I see Ace over everybody. Daezang, Oversky, and Boxer are all 50-50 versus anyone in Proleague. I have yet to see Boxer ever get completely raped in an SC match. And 2 of the 3 of the previously mentioned three win, you force an ace match, which you can put one of the three previously mentioned - and another 50-50 chance of winning.

Sexy thread!
Having said that, if you want a really up to date Proleague ladder, look no further than the KeSPA website.
|
South Africa4316 Posts
Haha Lhyviathan, we're working on keeping it 100% up to date, but with the TSL going on, all our coders etc. are too busy. I can make the maps auto-update at the moment though, but I'm there's some font etc issues, so I'm waiting for the coders to finish so that we can get that going.
Oh well, I'll keep it updated every week, as was last seasons.
|
Yeah, this thread is obviously way better for in-depth player/map/team stats.
Once the live functionality kicks in, my KeSPA bookmark will gather dust.

KTF playing to win
They're doing the Lecaf strategy - Anytime/Jaedong/ForGG/Lomo are instead replaced with 815/Flash/Lucifer/Violet.
Reach/Zergbong is better than whoever the fuck Lecaf was using, too.
Go KTF!

I've just been so busy with the TSL + studes that its constantly out of date. Hopefully I'll be able to fix that after tuesday this week, when the TSL's properly kicked off and my main tests are over.

If you can find another site that has even half as recent news on this, then you can make excuses. We all have rl shit to do, and other projects online, so Im not worried. :D

Yep, and in their next match they seem to be sporting there best lineup with Bisu, Midas, Best in the 1v1's and Rumble in the 2v2. After a tough start, he team seems to be exceeding expectations so far. We'll see if the new coaches work out in the long term.

Quick question: how many teams make the playoffs under the new transitional format (i.e. this season not 08/09)? Or do we not get a playoffs this season and it goes right to the grand finals (presumably with the top two teams)? Thanks!

Go Sk Telecom I know will win Best I want you to do the bang bang to go.go. again when win against him plz Bisu plz can out of your slump and show Flash and jaedong what you got ^^

Bisu isnt the toss king imo anymore. If i were you i would look to BeSt or JangBi instead

I'm new here so I have some questions..........It's there a way to know whats happening in this games online at real time_?......I mean, there are commentators or you follow the league by another way_?

Kevin, you can either watch the games live, or you can check the live-report threads that will appear in the tournament forums just before the matches start.
|
i'm wondering why BeSt didnt make top 10 1v1 stats, he IS 6-1 right now..
|
BeSt is 4-1 in current Proleague according to TLPD. I'm sure he will make it to the top 10 soon, he's so much of a beast right now!

Looks good, Boxer vs. zerg and Savior and Casy back in proleague lineups. Not to mention a lot of other interesting matchups.
|
|
Did Hery move to STX, or is that supposed to be Sheis vs FBH?
Hwasin vs Jangbi and Kal vs Stork should be nice.
|
|
Wow. Looks like all the pro-teams have decided that PZ is by far the optimal combination for 2v2 on Hunters and Hannibal.
|
whoa the stats are so close, whe are mid-season and there is no clear 1st there is a lot of dominant teams damn
It adds a lot of excitement because we cant predict a winner 100% (the shinhan proleague R1 and R2 was a bit boring because of this because Samsung and Lecaf were dominating. )
The 6 Teams on top have a shot to win the title of this season
SKT with their combo Midas, canata, 815 Lecaf with Jaedong, Anytime, ForGG, Hiya KTF with lucifer, Flash Wemade with Pure, Mind, Nada STX with Hwasin,Kal, calm Samsung with Stork, Firebathero, Jangbi and their 2vs2 !
And i don't think this extreme competion is due to the previous hero falling (jaedong, stork, ...), i think there is lot of new talent, new blood ! Very good
Go STX !
|
815 is a ktf player.
Really weird to see cj on #10.
|
SKT has Midas, BeSt, Bisu, Canata, and Hyuk.

OP is never updated, why even make this thread?

The OP is updated on a weekly basis during the break in proleague matches. The thread is created by a volunteer for the purpose of bookkeeping and providing statistical coverage.

On May 28 2008 14:13 bahhh wrote: OP is never updated, why even make this thread? Dude. Do you have the time to make all the necessary changes daily to such an extensive OP? No? Then stop complaining. Daigomi/Pachi/whoever else makes this thread so awesome, you do a great job.
|
Only one that actually answers my quesiton was Pachi. I didn't think it was much to ask to go in to a RESULTS and STANDINGs thread to see the results. I'll check back less often if it was only weekly updated. This aint the first time i checked it either.
|
South Africa4316 Posts
bahhh, all of them replied to your question since your question was rhetorical. You asked why bother doing this if you're not going to update it, which is clearly meant to make a statement rather than ask a question.
You say it's not much work to update this thing? Last season it took me six hours a week to update this thing once a week. Six hours on one day of the week, every week. That basically means I had to sacrifice one day a week simply to keep this thing running. And it's not that enjoyable work either, since it's just reading in results. This season it's been much easier thanks to pachi, so it takes me about 30 minutes to update it, and then a further 45 minutes to do the weekly stats report. Now, I can keep it update everyday, and that would take me 3 hours a week to do, but then it would become a massive hassle again, and at the end of this season we'll have to find some new person willing to do it, who'll probably do a worse job than me because he's inexperienced, and who is unlikely to be willing to sacrifice 6 hours a week himself.
So yes, demanding that this R&S thread be updated 24/7 is too much to ask at the moment. I am working on getting an automatic update to this thread, which would mean it would be automatically update all the time, but for that I need considerable hours of work from our coders, who are too busy working on other important things for the site right now, like the TSL website. Remember, everyone here is doing this on their free time, without getting anything back from it, except for nice comments most of the time.
So there you have a reply to your "question". This gets updated every wednesday, unless I'm extremely busy in which case it will get updated on thursday or friday. This means you can start every week off with a clear picture in mind of what's going on. Furthermore you get stats from the proleague that you can't get anywhere else, like the top players, or detailed map statistics. You can also look back in the detailed match results to see how the previous week went. Hopefully that will make up for the fact that it's not updated daily.
|

Haha, you don't have to leave. I think on TL.net everybody that's part of the community contributes. Sorry if my answer came out a bit strongly, I just wanted to explain clearly the amount of time that goes into something like this. Seriously though, TL.net wouldn't exist without people commenting on the forums, so anyone saying that someone with 888 posts doesn't contribute is talking bs. Just try not to sound like you're demanding things, and you'll be fine

Is 6-3 better record than 5-2? or does mass gaming effect? Or lets ask different way is 10-5 better than 5-0?
I think there is some of Zergs just barely out of ranking, like Jaedong, 815.

The proleague award is Most Wins, so players are ranked by amount of wins first, then seperated by other things such as losses just to give a more diverse ranking.

OP is always updated on weekly basis (or could be bi-weekly?), they have so many effort of calculating the stats and put them into table/picture format. Not just Proleague, but MSL and OSL as well.
Finally KangMin is back, but its going to be 3-0. At least KTF isnt putting him to rust. I believe.

Guys, I'll try to update this tomorrow, but if I don't then I'll update it on Sunday. Really sorry for the delay, but I've got a massive exam coming up on Saturday. Oh, it's also my birthday tomorrow, so the little free time I have atm might get taken by other things. Will see how it goes.

Well I'm a JD fan and you can't take that away from me Though I did not see that one coming (again). Must see the VOD to see what went wrong but will hate the fact I know the pitiful result...

What does the asterisk next to SKT1 and eStro mean?

Point deduction as a penalty. Can happen for various reasons. For example if you chat to all in 2v2 game.

Looking forward to KTF vs Samsung and SKT vs CJ. Hopefully, Bisu can show good form with PvT on blue storm. A lot of teams don't have anything to play for so they are using less experienced players. Pretty interesting. Right now it looks like there are 5 teams fighting for 4 playoff spots with OGN trying to make a late run.
There are 4 playoff spots again this season and 6 the next? I think this is correct.
|
holy crap +17 on skt1's 1v1. Isn't it great having KTF and T1 in the top 4 ^o^

It explains next season. I wasn't sure if that applied to this season.

CJ did fine, although partly because SKT's 1v1 really let themselves fall apart at the end. : (. Also of note, no more Tosslife, hm.

Did Clon/FOru just move into #1 2v2 for the season with their victory over TT/Jihun?
Because that would be awesome, with the best team players being so oldschool.

Hate to sound demanding (and/or ignorant) but what are the final standings (for teams)?

On July 14 2008 04:47 wswordsmen wrote: Hate to sound demanding (and/or ignorant) but what are the final standings (for teams)? All that matters is that Samsung finished 1st (16-6, +20), SKT 2nd (14-8, +13), OGN 3rd (14-8, +10), and STX 4th (14-8, +9).

5th and 6th matter since they are in the playoffs as well, and those 2 were the ones I really wanted to know (I knew 3/4 of 1-4)
Thanks anyway.

No, the whole 6 make the playoff thing starts next season I believe.
STX vs. OGN Winner of that vs. SKT1 Winner of that vs. KHAN
As far as I know, at least.

You are correct sir. 6 team thing starts next season. The post-game broadcast after the Samsung/ACE match announced that the next game would be STX vs. OGN (#4 vs. #3), which implies that we're going by last season's format. Besides, it's been in the calendar and liquibet for a few days now to boot.

God, please update the OP.... T_T

So Lecaf is out of the playoffs because their coach sent Hiya to loose their last 3 ace games. How brilliant. Really. I now hope that STX or SKT destroy Khan in the Grand Final.

Yeah fucking stupid! Dumb bitches. Hope they'll learn it the hard way then... But not good for Hiya knowing what it's resulting in :/

FBH is not toss, he is terran And in 2v2 standings you mistyped Zues. Thanks for all your work man!

Unfortunately I still can't edit my posts, so I can't change the address of that 1v1 image. It's currently on 17014.png, and it should be 10714.png which is the right address of the file, and also the address of the fixed image.
As to Zues... the stats I use were broken because the proleague is over (they reverted back or something, I don't know), so I was copying from the stats pachi posted here, but I had to enter it in manually which I don't usually do, hence the mistake. On the other hand, it wasn't a typing mistake, but rather a spelling mistake. I always thought the U can before the E in Zeus :p
Thanks for pointing it out!

Hey, in the op, it said that teams need to come together to produce results, and its not about team victories but I'd have to disagree except when they play the 2 vs 2 games
