Apologies for the delay. The first post is always the most time-consuming to make (this took over an hour and a half, even working with last topic's template), and I put it off for a lot longer than I should have.
PS: I don't know how the format works at all this tournament, in terms of Round 2 at least.
|
Recent OSL's seem to all be letdowns, playerwise. No sAviOr, Casy, Jaedong, or sAviOr? Fuck Thanks for the thread though
That being said, gogo UpMagiC / Luxury. THIS IS YOUR TIME TO SHINE~
|
This should be a featured thread.
Edit: Ninja-featured and now I look dumb!
|
|
I think we should just completely write off Spear's existence.
|
On April 21 2008 12:45 GrandInquisitor wrote:Man this ODT/OSL differentiation is confusing. Should we really consider Spear to have "been in an OSL"?
So the 12 winners of the group stages + 4 seeds = round 2 = "real" OSL? I guess technically the round 1 group stages would be ODT, so Spear has been in an ODT, but not the OSL itself?
|
Wow. Is this actually an OSL where Protoss is the majority? I'm a relative newcomer, but hasn't the OSL traditionally been dominated by terrans?
|
Well, with players like Spear, one can't really say much about any majority.

basically odt -> osl r1 and osl -> osl r2

it would still be terran's domination as Flash is looking good and NaDa will have his come back and kick everybody's ass to take his 4th OSL tittle and take a diamond mouse. haha

First the Sharks, now XellOs? T_T. Kill me now.
|
I'm ready for the dearth of old-schoolers and the of new-schoolers. And the maps don't suck (hopefully) so we'll see some great games hopefully.
The Sharks losing was very sad, I will concede. It was the only sports team in the Bay Area that did anything this year. Well, the Giants have yet to show that they don't suck, but let's face it, they're going to have a losing record this year.

Round Robin everyone in each group plays each other and the 2 with the best records at the end advance (Sometimes there is tie breakers)

Then has July really advanced yet?
EDIT: Yes, he has. Daggoth be praised.

Great work man.
A mistake I could see has already been pointed out. Thus through my own incompetence this post has been rendered a simple "Thanks" post.
Thanks!

oops haha yes round of 8 aka quarterfinals
|
how does the osl work for round 2? To advance you have to have 2-0 or 2-1 record? Kind of confusing, because...it says its flash vs sea. If flash beats sea, he will advance 3-0. Sea will be 1-2, ggplay will obviously beat rock, making it a three way tie with a 1-2 record? Or is Flash already advancing and the vs sea game aint gonna happen? hmm
Edit: Considering Julys group I take it Flash's group hasn't been updated. Im newb so...flash advances, ggplay is eliminated and now its rock vs sea?
|

flash doesn't necessarily advance. there could be a three way tie. the top two in each group advance
|
flash will most likely advance from his group, the same way stork will most likely not.
|

It's "most likely" not %100, so he is not advanced yet.
|
I feel that July will get destroyed by whoever he plays after his all in fails. This all zerg group is such bullshit. Players like Sea and Much are probably not gonna make it while fucking ZvZ decides 2 players in the ro8. This is almost as bad as Frozean making it, imo.

Shut your ass up July beat his ODT 2 - 0 , where Sea lost to jangBI and struggled hard versus Daezang same with Much , don't blame him for having an all zerg group i think it was pretty smart of him to choose Yarnc after luxury choosed him , if enyone is to blame it should be Luxury . And ZvZ is never easy , 2-3 drones killed turns the game around so even the smallest mistake could lose you the game .

summary of what will happen in week 3-2
Group A: If Rock wins, he advances as A2. If GGPlay wins, GGPlay, Rock, and Sea play a 3-way tiebreaker.
Group B: If NaDa wins, he advances as B2. If Stork wins, Stork, NaDa, and JangBi play a 3-way tiebreaker.
Group C: Absolutely nothing will change.
Group D: If Bisu wins, he advances as D2. If BackHo wins, he advances as D1.
|
lol, I saw Much clumsily defeat Mind. Very clumsy but o so cute play. GJ Much.
And I saw Best play like his razor sharp self and just demolish Jangbi. Strange opener by best though. With range skip to nexus.
I knew the OSL would shape up by ro8. I can already sense a great OSL coming.
Best vs Flash will be epic. So will July vs Much. I don't even know if they play, but they should. Those would be awesome games.

Usually (Past 2 OSLs), the brackets are drawn randomly after the group stage finishes. 4 Matches of Group 1st v Group 2nd.

So it's possible that we're going to see 5 protoss 2 zergs and 1 terran. That's......that's...something. 2 years ago you people were like "waiii oh starcraft gawds waii!???"
|
|
|
I dont think Flash will take 3rd place. Thats only if he loses to BeSt. But no BackHo, I rather see the Zerg advance
|
Semifinals should be Flash vs Best and Much vs Luxury
|
Yeah I thought last years OSL was as shitty as it could be, this years will be worse. It will come down to Flash, Best, and the winner of the Stork/Jangbi/Nada tiebreaker.

I think the osl is clear cut:
Flash> nada/jangbi/stork Best> Rock July> Much Luxury? Backho [the only one Im not sure about, because to be honest, backho has been pulling upsets and luxury isnt a good zvp']
Semifinals:
Flash> Best July> Backho if Luxury Luxury> July [though a close match, a toss up really]
the finals will either be luxury or july vs flash, or thats about it.
|
why if jangbi nada stork always tie?...how many rematch will be played?
Prediction: Flash>Whoever Best>Rock July>Much Luxury>Backho (PLZ!!...i always wrong when vote against backho)

WAT
Seriously, after so many starleagues of terran dominance, finally some protoss in the last stages of the OSL. This trend is good, it should stay for some time (so that Flash wins more ;P)
|
LoL anybody see any parallels with that one OSL with all the Terrans and Savior being the only Zerg?
|
Flash kills toss, so there can be huge protoss dominance, but the gold will go to Flash. Lol. :D
And... What about Rock defeating Best? He can do it if he has a lucky day.
|
Backho is so going to take this!

I really sorta am pulling for Rock more then anyone simply cuss I think he won't have too many chances like this anymore. Im super sad he lost to July 1st game cuss hes so entertaining to watch / such a likable person.

not since Mycube OSL (in the fall of 2003, five years ago) has there not been a Terran in the final four of the OSL

July for golden mouse!.... well I actually I want Best to win, but July would be kool too. I don't really mind if lux beats Best, but if Backho gets to the final, I'll kill him

Thx for the update and congratulations for joining the Archon fraternity.

The links to the VODs for the most recent games dont work

I hope Luxury or July wins this OSL. Luxury deserves it alone for just beating Flash. If Luxury didn't win, you can be almost assured, Flash will add another OSL trophy to his pro record. At the last July OSL final, July was at his prime and the clear favorite against iloveoov. July deserve a OSL title for losing to iloveoov zvt in a series with the WORSE zvt map pool in any Starleague's exsistence. The maps were so bad that iloveoov basically had free wins.

just dont give me mirrors in the final, specialy Z v Z and its fine.

I'm hoping for a ZvZ final. It's July's best hope IMO.

July should definitely win this one. He won't be lucky as this time in the future.
|
July will crush Backho...

He did it. He is a legend now and the most successful Zerg in my list(Savior following closely)

Yeah but for me and most people OSL wins have a greater weight on a players career than an MSL. And being the 1 out of 2 people to posses the golden mouse is much more than having 3 MSL wins. Now July have to win a MSL to really prove him self as the most successful zerg of all times. Winning a OSL in three different time periods is an enormous achievement.

are there no more 3rd place matches/bronze medals?

They got rid of them last year since they expanded the tournament to 32 players and give the top four players a seed.
|
Whats next? White gold mouse? lol. Way to go July.
|
I think there's a diamond mouse right?
|
oh the order is golden -> platinum -> diamond

It's actually just 28 players.

Savior is better than July He has 3 MSL, 1 OSL and 2 MSL Silver and etc.He was in final of MSL 5 times without break.

mm, i updated the phrasing in here, it's not "eliminated", it's "seeded into next OSL round 1"
it's kind of lame that whether or not you advance into quarterfinals from your group in round 2, you have the same result (seeded in round 1 group of next OSL)
