So today I found out that I need to have surgery to remove my wisdom teeth on December 1st. I'll be on Amoxicillin and Prednisone, both of which I know nothing about except that House wanted that one girl to take prednisone in the episode where he has to do everything via webcam because his patient is in the arctic. ANYWAY. Has anyone gotten their wisdoms "extracted"? Was it as painful as people say or is it really not that bad considering the amount of pain killers? I'm sort of nervous to get it done but if you've got a horror story I'll read that too!

it's gonna hurt like you can't imagine but they should knock you out, and give you a pretty heavy pain killer prescription.

I live out of town, so my dentist referred me to their associate clinic because they were too busy to taka me on one of the few days I could drive down....long story short, the dumb dental hygienist took x-rays of my face more than once becasue she thought I was my brother -_-, the dumb dentist almost dropped one of my tooth's down my throat, which I choked on, and I bit his finger because I couldn't feel my mouth and from being nervous about what a retard he was. To make it worse...my dad didn't pick up the painkillers till after me and my brother were done...and I had taken my teeth out first, so yeah...good times. GL!

Oh yeah, the advice...make sure your actual dentist is not a moron, don't go to their affiliate branch, and make sure while you're in surgery, someone is picking up the painkillers so you can take them right away.

Your dentist should go through all the necessary procedures after your teeth have been removed like not drinking from straws etc.

But since this semester Im not a full time student and not working, I dont have the money for it

Depends how much your insurance is willing to cover and how badly impacted you are, you may get a local, or they may put you under. Going under is the best choice, obviously. For all four teeth, you'll definitely want a general.If your insurance only covers a local, it sucks to be you.

It's going to hurt like hell for the next 2-5 days, so you'll definitely be on painkillers. Valium's good stuff, it will fuck you up real good. Make sure to take your antibacterial meds for the whole duration the doc recommends, don't stop or you may get an infection, even if you think it's alright. Infections are bad news, means you'll have to go to the emergency room, where they'll have to rip your wound back open and wash it out. Happened to a friend of mine.

The stitches you'll get are self-dissolving. They'll be some bleeding on the first day, it's normal. After a few weeks, the stitches will come out in little pieces of thread.

My dad is a dentist and I watch these crooked teeth noobs crawl away wincing in horrible agony! MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I think it is okay. You just need to eat soft food, remember to take your pain killers, and wait it out. It should be good.

On topic, my wisdom teeth came through without me noticing when I was 16 but I have a gappy mouth so that doesn't help you at all.

dude i hope ur getting the lithium drip instead of novacaine or laughing gas. it will knock you out cold and you'll just wake up without ur wisdom teeth. i had 4 of mine pulled out like that when i was in high school. i would describe the pain as an intense throbbing--think of a huge, rounded shape of pain. it wont be in sharp bursts unless you touch an exposed nerve. oh, and make sure you wash out ALL the food particles out of ur mouth. they'll always make their way into the holes where your teeth used to be--and the holes will be deeper than you think so be thorough.

mine weren't bad at all. I got all four out at once and yes they were pretty sore and my cheeks were huge but it wasn't that bad. The pain was about the equivalent of getting braces tightened from what I remember. probably a little worse

Getting your wisdom teeth out is amazing. Doesn't hurt at all and it's a free excuse to do nothing and take pain pills :O. Just hope your doctor gives you something fun and if not call your drug dealer

Edit: Anyone talking about it hurting didn't take enough pain killers or they're just trying to scare you. I've never known anyone to have an actual problem with it. I was in bed for a few hours after and then playing video games after, not SC but console games and stuff, because I was on so much Oxycodone.
