Hello, TL! Today I decided to dedicate my blog to the event in which I ate the first of many, many tortellinis to come in the future.

I was in my big trip in Europe with my family when I arrived in Rome. On the last evening we were to spend there, we went to a fancy restaurant named the 'Roof Garden.' All the tables and chairs were located on the top of the restaurant, with the first floor used to prepare the food. As I browsed through the menu to look for something of interest, my eyes fell upon the entry 'Tortellini.' Instantly I remembered Torte de Lini, an awesome user of TL. Curious as to why someone would dedicate his TL username to a food, I unhesitatingly ordered it, saying 'I would like a tortellini.'

I must inform the reader that all the waiters were very funny and entertaining in the way they talked and acted. Many laughs erupted from various tables. However, mine was to give the greatest.

After 10 minutes or so, my family's orders were served, mine last. As I watched eagerly for my food, I noticed something terribly wrong with my plate. There was only ONE tortellini.

ONE.

With a cute little leaf on top for decoration.

As shocked as I was, I asked the waiter why the hell there was only one tortellini. The waiter replied in an equally confused tone with very bad English that as I asked for 'a' tortellini, I got exactly one. After much arguing between him and me, another waiter appeared and handed to me a full plate of tortellini (meaning I got one extra :D)! Everyone at my table burst out in laughter. The waiters, after many hilarious antics, left us alone to dine.

This is the most important part of the story: the tasting of the tortellini.

I hastily shoved the first piece into my mouth and bit down on it. Sweet and tender meat oozed out of holes I created on the pasta covering and mixed with the rich sauce placed finely over the entire tortellini. As I chewed more and more, the delicious tastes mixed together to create a powerful and lasting sense. When I swallowed, the delicacies created a warm feeling that ran down my esophagus and into my stomach. Holy shit.

The first plate went by rather fast. I greedily ate a second plate before I concluded to myself that I was fully satisfied with my meal. It was heavenly.

Before my family and I left, we still interacted with the waiters and laughed. When we finally departed for the hotel, I took with us one of the restaurant's business cards so that if I would ever come back again to Rome, I would know exactly where I'd spend some of my time at.

The dinner at the Roof Garden was by far the most memorable experience I've had in Rome, and so far in Europe as well (l've been traveling here for four weeks, almost two more to go). If it weren't for the tortellini, the dinner wouldn't have been half as great.

Thank you all for reading my blog. Thank you for indirectly introducing me to a great food, Torte de Lini. And of course, happy birthday!

I thought that 'i' was the plural form in Italian? As in a single tortellini would be a tortellino?

Oh who am I kidding, I don't know Italian

Maybe it was a tortelloni?

I can't believe a blog about pasta can be so compelling

I'm quite confused about this as well, haha. Perhaps we could get an explanation ^^?

I live in San Diego, so I went to Little Italy and ordered a "cannolo" off one of the Italian bakeries there, and the baker looked at me with a weird face, like he didn't know what I'd just ordered. So I had to say, "a cannoli" and then he finally got it >_<

They are almost exactly the same, though I am certain it was tortellini.

The correct term is 'tortellini,' as it is also plural.

I don't think I've ever had a tortellini. They sound delicious.

Also giving it 15 minutes until Torte finds this thread. When he does, happy birthday :D!

Yeah it is, but it's weird to say "tortellino" lol. iirc there's no differentiation between Italian food plurals in English, e.g. you always say "there's a strand of spaghetti on the floor", not "there's a strand of spaghetto on the floor".

Edit: I guess lasagna/lasagne is said both ways in English.
