The thrill of being submerged into a new world, and into a new community. The thrill and hardships of being a noob are quite the experience. I;m still a noob on here and I think I'm coming on my second year of membership lol. I make this blog mainly as I notice recently reading all the blogs and threads, teamliquid has a surge of new members with the release of SC2. We've greeted them well, and have accepted a lot. Some things have changed intensely with the new members thought that I've noticed. The first thing is definitely the strategy section. I remember back about 3 years ago when I wasn't even a member and just reading teamliquid, being completely new to starcraft and just reading every new post in the strategy section religiously. The talk that went on there was legendary all between veterans of the community, too. I could read one post and in it, unit stats would be brought up, possible new strategies were talked about, legitimate thought went into every post of that section. It was really all for strategy. I haven't looked on there for about a month now though, because last time I looked there were 4 posts of new members asking"What did I do wrong in this game?" And the most painful thing was that most time the answer was simply macro and micro harder. Not even real strategy as much as general in-game tips. Although the new community has hurt in some places, it's nice to see the renewal in spirit for the game! Seeing all these new members is excellent and I'm happy to see that the game will be living on, and I have a feeling that these new members will eventually become the core members of this community and maintain this website some day. So, welcome to teamliquid you "noobs"! Reflecting back, teamliquid is different from what it was, but I think it's for the better. (im sry this post is probably butchered as all hell, it's 3:00 where I am, I'm very excited I figured out how to make a blog as I've tried on and off but could never figure it out XD and just had to make one!) but what are all your opinions on noobs in general and all these newcomers to this great community?

Newb and Noobs: + Show Spoiler +

You could use a lesson in proper sentencing and the use of ENTER to create space and make for a properly readable thread.

In summary make this less: TLDR / wall of text and more reader friendly.

, it's nice to see the renewal in spirit for the game!

but TL.net now have two games on the agenda, what of them are you talking about?

As only being here for three months, I find that those of us new to the Starcraft community are awesome

I don't agree that there is a difference between the two terms as suggested by that comic. The idea that the pejorative "n00b" is somehow deserved or provoked by the player's attitude should be absurd to anyone who has seen it used. Only obnoxious people ever went around calling other players newbs and n00b took over as the preferred slur precisely because it is the more obnoxious spelling. Otherwise there is really no difference.

Well there kind of is a difference, but yeah noob can be used as a slur for a gamer no matter how long he has been playing if he doesn't know what he is doing. Though newb isn't as bad and only means someone who is new and inexperienced.

Also, in this RPG I use to play, this guy called me a noob so I told him my level and he called me dumb cause theres a difference between noob and newb, but in a tiny skill game like that there isn't. I never got to correct him.

While noob is the most commonly used of the pair it does not mean it is not true, new players will often refer to themselves as a newb rather than N00b because of the negativity associated with the way the word is spelled.

its one of the things you are not aware of untill someone tells you.

Lol @ that pic

And less wall of text please mr OP, it's hardly readable now
Maybe type it out in word or notepad first and fill in some blank lines with enter?

I've kind of been surprised by the rediculous influx of both "newbs" and "noobs" into teamliquid (by the definition of the comic)

It's both a good thing and a bad thing because we'll gain good new members, but many many more useless spammers.

I think this surge of the new members is annoying, so many stupid threads appears. For example we can see now the revival of the very old trend of posting winning replays. For some reason it really pisses me off.

what's even more crazy is the influx of people like you, who post things like this when they have under like 150 posts, and then turn out to have joined in 2007 O_O
