tactics tactics tactics, until you reach the really high levels 99% of chess is tactics. just choose an opening that sounds fun, learn a few moves deep and just play a bunch of games. eventually the main themes of the openings become clear. right now though the most important thing is tactics .
to help you though, in the first 10-15 moves you should focus on:
1. getting your pieces out and to effective squares 2. controlling the center 3. get your king to safety (CASTLE!!!!!!!) 4. profit (couldn't resist)
try not to move a piece you've already moved in the opening unless you absolutely have to, this just slows down development
Ooh the King's Gambit! I may be interested if this turns into something popular, I never play chess online or anything, just against friends and the computer on occasion, but its something I'm interested in. (Not that I have time for it )
Openings are like BO, you set up the mid game and the deployment of your pieces, and usually is good to know against what are you playing, so you can counter it correctly and have a good midgame. Mostly you aim to have control over the center.

oh i know the basics pretty well, and have a few openings in my arsenal, but there are just some opening i really dont get =/

especially the Sicilians, i cant execute them properly =/ well if your curious, i just use ruy's everytime since its like a cookie-cutter build

i would suggest getting a book, search the library, amazon has some nice ones too. then play a bunch of games with the opening you're working on. mostly they are based on style, no one opening is "best"

EDIT AGAIN: Since no one keeps playing i will respond to any play that you suggest from here.

OHHHHHH so THIS is what you meant in the pm lol
I'd much prefer not to do it through forums/blogs, but I'll definitely play you. If you want, you can paste the moves into tl or w/e.

Awesome to see that this is still going!
I check the forum everyday, so is not so hard to keep this running. And play like this is a very good exercise, as you have something like unlimited time to play you usually play against the best posible play, one mistake leads you to a very hard situation. I think h2 was much better than Nf6 the last play, i was specting for h2 actually and alredy had some continuations, but this took me a little for surprise, since i dont know what could benjammin play now, but i think i got in a very good shape after having a hard time, unless there is something that i havent seen yet with that knight, or maybe he just wants to castle and connect towers...
i could be smart and say "maybe i went Nf6 because i thought you would be expecting me to h2!" but i might have just made a mistake there

Things are looking pretty bad for white. Even though the material is roughly even, white has a bad bishop and a rook that has not yet been mobilized. On top of that, the king is under attack, and the g pawn is effectively lost. Black's passed pawn on the h file is also pretty powerful at this point.

23. Rh1
New diagram:
I will edit the op

Did I miss something or did White's bishop disappear.
XD you are right, i forgot it... edited.

I'd say ...Ng4, although ...Nh5 works too
I thought that after ...Ng4, ...Ne3 and ...Rg2 there are quite a lot of mating threats. Although I must say after Nh5 you win atleast the exchange
Also, ...Ng4 into Ne3 seems to force a zugzwang. I haven't found any variations where you dont get atleast a queen for a rook
zay, ever play a st. george defence game? i found a copy of "play the saint george" at a library and have been meaning to try it out
No, actually i conceed...
Good game, this was fun.
great game! indeed fun, i think zay should get the next game for doing an excellent job filling in
