This is a personal invitation to play with micronesia, you are free to watch and to talk, but not to give advises.

I will keep editing the op and adding images some time to time

EDIT: since zoler is online and playing me right now i will play micronesia if he wants when he answer my pm
EDIT AGAIN: Since no one keeps playing i will respond to any play that you suggest from here.

If correspondence chess over TL blogs becomes popular, I will be a happy man.

tactics tactics tactics, until you reach the really high levels 99% of chess is tactics. just choose an opening that sounds fun, learn a few moves deep and just play a bunch of games. eventually the main themes of the openings become clear. right now though the most important thing is tactics .

to help you though, in the first 10-15 moves you should focus on:

1. getting your pieces out and to effective squares
2. controlling the center
3. get your king to safety (CASTLE!!!!!!!)
4. profit (couldn't resist)

try not to move a piece you've already moved in the opening unless you absolutely have to, this just slows down development
The number of years it takes for the Internet to move past anything is way, way over 9000.

Ooh the King's Gambit!

I may be interested if this turns into something popular, I never play chess online or anything, just against friends and the computer on occasion, but its something I'm interested in. (Not that I have time for it )

Openings are like BO, you set up the mid game and the deployment of your pieces, and usually is good to know against what are you playing, so you can counter it correctly and have a good midgame. Mostly you aim to have control over the center.

i would suggest getting a book, search the library, amazon has some nice ones too. then play a bunch of games with the opening you're working on. mostly they are based on style, no one opening is "best"
