So Blizzcon is only 2 weeks away and I'm pretty pumped, but I have to ask -- will I actually have a good chance to shake hands with the Maestro himself?
it would be equivalent to meeting micheal jordan IMO -- I've even been practicing a couple of korean phrases to say to him if I actually get the chance, he's my favorite player of all time, after all..
can anyone who was at blizzcon 08 give some input on this?
and if I do actually get to meet him -- what's a good object to bring for him to autograph?
thanks much

Yeah. Last year people pretty much mobbed him after winning. Just after any game or even in the practice area just say hello. He speaks ok English although he's shy about it.

bring a keyboard or a mouse for him to autograph. only thing that would make sense to me. post pics if you do get it though!

He's a cool guy - very calming to work with and his English is good even if he is somewhat shy about it like most of the progamers who can speak English. (Except Chalrenge and Gorush haha.) Good luck with meeting him; at matches here in the post-game fan meetings he always draws the second biggest crowd of fans after Boxer. The key is confidence and not being intimidated by how you might feel towards him. Don't be too in awe/nervous to go and speak to him (like some of the people I've met from TL who came to see the live matches.)
|
I remember seeing him sign some people's CJ Entus shirts...
interesting story: while in the sc2 tourney section, I had just lost a game, then as I was about to get up and leave, Savior went and sat next to me to play a game against Yellow (who was across from him). I sat back down, said "hi Ma Jae Yoon" and he said "hi" back. I wanted to stay there soo bad but a damn tourney organizer was looking at me and he knew I had just lost a game so I had to leave. I was like "noooooooooooooooooo"

'how do u feel when u lose'
i don't care at all actually but one really annoying thing is that teammates and fans and stuff think i care so they all feel bad for me and look at me like trying to make me feel better and shit, but i actually feel fine so its just awkward and annoying as hell lol

ah well i mean that's pretty natural sounding english coming from ma jae yoon -- or it's a loose translation from the original korean.

I think the most out-going personalities I've worked with are; Chalrenge (who is the only gamer I've met to date who comes up with his own poses without any form of prompting.) Gorush (pre-Ace - he is now very restrained, but polite.) and Canata (crazy and wonderfully funny.) Sangho is also very eager to converse in English and has a strong sense of welcoming to his personality. The shyest/quietest have been Luxury, EffOrt and Skyhigh.

uh he said it in korean and thats a 100% accurate translation
you think koreans talk in real life like they do in interviews?
NOOOOT

Last Blizzcon he signed my shirt took two pictures with me (after the first one didn't come out well he was a good sport) and shook my hand. I just found him kind of standing around the progamer area talking to people. Really nice, probably won't have any trouble meeting him!

i'm not saying i don't believe you... 0_O
i was just wondering if he actually said it in english because i'm gonna take a wild guess and say that the korean language doesn't have a direct translation of "annoying as hell."

obviously the literal translation for slangy stuff like that is different, and in korean its often done with enunciation not words, but the meaning is the same
which is all obvious
why do i have to explain this
u r dumb

I'm bringing my HD camcorder to Blizzcon so I will do everything in my power to get some up-close footage of him .
If what you guys are saying is true I really hope I'm able to meet him and any other pro-gamers. Really looking forward to it.

I remember watching Chalrenge v Rock and got into all the drama behind that one. It was hilarious. Did you read the Savior interview translation by Waxangel? MJY was saying that Skyhigh was a handful in the teamhouse, thought he'd be more outgoing

He probably is (as with the vast majority of gamers I've worked with.) way more out-going and confident when he's not working with a) A woman. b) A foreigner who speaks eff-all Korean and is asking him to do all manner of crazy stuff by physically moving him into position and demonstrating poses herself. Also I've been told I'm kind of bossy and direct which is the totally opposite of a lot of Korean women my age due to social dynamics here in Korea.

I got a picture with him last year. :D Didn't really talk to him much, but he signed my Blizzcon bag, and made sure it was legible before handing it back to me, and also made sure the picture turned out okay before going up on stage (we were bothering him as he was going up to play a game).

@WCG i got an autograph from JaeDong, who was also just standing around, tons of foreigners wanting autographs, and stuff, I guess it won't be that hard @BlizzCon and with savior, too, I doubt they are like hiding in their rooms, going to play SC after their matches;P

Greatest movie ever IMO in Korean cinema.
Have fun dude! At least you are in the same room as a progamer. I wish I can at least experience that...to at least see a progamer with my very own eyes. Too bad I couldn't find time when I was in Korea. I really regret it. So I will definitely make sure to do that when I go back next summer (:
