The stadium is full.

Bisu looks calm, confident and a little too aloof.

In contrast, Yellow is completely focused; he knows the booth as well as he knows his own home; this is where he was born to be. He goes through his strategy again in his head for the last time, and gives a little nod to acknowledge to himself that he can carry it out to the best of his potential.

"Hong Jin Ho hwighting!" (...Hong Jin Ho hwighting) echoes twice more, as the crowd hums in the background. The energy is unlike any other proleague game.

Bisu yawns as he scouts Yellows base, taking this to be another ordinary PvZ. But it is never ordinary with Jin Ho. Taek Yong's probe was killed BEFORE the natural hatchery even started morphing. Bisu's probe is meant to be circling the creep much later in the game! He makes up for it with a cute hide in the trees, but Jin Ho must have gained in confidence. The zerglings have been infused with speed just like their master.

He quickly grabs a lair and a hydralisk den to prepare for an onslaught with lurkers. Bisu's second probe has evaded the zerglings and sights Yellow's finished lair and hydralisk den, and immediately the zerglings come back to finish off the offending probe.

What happens next is pure war art. He mines the back with a drone. He feints an attack with zerglings at the front. And his calling card: he prepares 2 overlords for transport ironically by the trees in which Bisu hid his probe.

The corsair by way of Bisu's sense has found the overlords, but its too late, they are on their way to drop their cargo of doom. The zerglings begin their dance of death, picking off the cannons and allowing the lurkers free reign without detection. The probes explode en masse as the lurker spines tear through their armour.

Again Jin Ho employs a multiple front strategy, having a burrowed lurker in Bisu's main, natural mineral line and front door. He is, in effect, engaging in a multitasking war with Bisu who is so successful in this sport due to his multitasking.

The hydras are dropped in now, courtesy of the overlord speed. Yellow continues his assault, with lurkers and hydras in Bisu's main. The reavers, representative of protoss technological might are sniped, and Yellow is able to overwhelm the cannons and subsequently Bisu's main.

It's time for Yellow to showcase some artistry now that the hardwork is almost over.

He nonchalantly picks up his hydras as the scarab is about to explode on his hydras.

He morphs and unmorphs his hydras into lurkers and back to mock the zealots psi-blades.

But Jin Ho has not been idle, his finishing move about to be revealed.

"MUTALISKU!"

The commentators chant; and Bisu's famous multizealot mineral line raids are completely negated by Yellow's mutalisks.

A hallmark of Jin Ho, the multifront strategy is again employed in a combined arms air and ground assault with mutalisks and hydralisks. The reavers are sniped and the hydras swarm in from Bisu's now ravaged main and the front to completely destroy Bisu's last ditch defence with flowers and probes.

The reverbrations from the crowd chanting his name after his victory. The understated but powerful salute by the veteran Yellow, the half star beneath this salute representing his lack of modern achievement in the sport, but in contrast also reminds us of all that he has contributed to the game, and all that he has achieved in the past.

"I want to be famous."

His dream fulfilled, his name, style and personality an integral part of the SC Progaming culture for eternity.

Very nice, stylistic writeup.

For any of you guys who haven't taken 10-15 minutes out of your life to watch the game - do it now. Like now. This is the reason why you keep watching starcraft

Bisu was just out of it that day, but a good writeup nonetheless.

If they played a Bo5, obviously Bisu would win. But it really seems from his expressions etc. he was just caught too off guard and made a few stupid mistakes (normal moving that Reaver from his natural into Hydralisks key among them).

He was probably a little out of it, but YellOw did just about the best I think anyone could expect, considering how horrible his other ACE games have been.

I liked your write up other then the fact that you discribed (Z)YellOw as super confident in his booth. When I watched the VOD it looked like (Z)YellOw was bracing himself to get stomped by (P)Bisu.

The writeup reminded me of:

Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted-One moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?

Yeah,
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready
The whole crowd goes so loud

A worthy writeup to characterize perhaps the best Proleague game of this round. Now all we need is an epic ACE match involving Boxer.

When I started watching that game I thought it would just be another humiliating game where Bisu stomps another zerg. Then what happened was pure starcraft art. The threat of breaking the front, then mining the mineral patch at the back, and finally the slow drop, was just genius. I got so pumped watching that game I was actually shouting and shaking my fist in excitement! The crowd chanting HONG JIN HO was overwhelming as well. Awesome awesome game
Wan step ahead!

Watching the first bit again, I think he did look nervous, but then he started looking focused and calm, and rapid blinking looking like he was in the zone, then he does this little nod @ around 1 minute into the vid which shows me he was reasonably confident of his ability to carry his strategy out.

I watched this game live, but as I rewatch it, I can't help but noticed that Bisu ear-hacked at 7:50 (corsair see first drop). Do you think it was his game-sense or because of the crowd?

wow that was seriously an epic game. Its games like that that make starcraft such a viable spectator sport, especially the commentators screaming MUTALISKUUUUUUUUUUUUU as they first saw them.

This is why he IS one of the greats. Another flash of brilliant play that was seriously missing. Im glad I watched this game. As the crowd went wild and chanted for yellow, I couldnt help but bear a huge smile. It reminded me of the younger days of starcraft.

I would of given him 5 stars for that game.

[edit] I didn't write it before but great writing on your part.

I thought the same thing. He sent his sair up right after the crowd went into a frenzy. But oh well. That game was just amazing.

wow

This is why I love starcraft.

The veteran underdog caught the protoss champion completely off guard with artisan tactic.

Yellow's micro in that game was far from flawless, and he would probably be outmatched in a drawn-out macro game. However, capitalizing on his experience and game sense, this veteran player stripped Bisu naked in his very own backyard.
