I'm working on a term paper due in about 12 and a half hours and am nodding off in front of my computer...so I'm going to type whatever comes to mind here in the hopes that in the process, the coffee I just drank will kick in before I fall asleep.
Ugh. Somehow, my professors decided to conspire together and pack in all term paper due dates and exam dates within two days. I have the aforementioned paper due later today at 3pm, a final exam later in the evening at 7pm, and my last term paper due Wednesday by 5pm.
Naturally I haven't even started studying for or reading ahead for my exams or papers. I started on this paper about five hours ago, and am about 3/4s done.
It's for my philosophy of religion class, and I'm writing about the characterization of God...or more accurately, perceived discrepancies in his characterization between the old and new testaments. At first I was just going to bullshit my way through the topic, but I'm finding a lot of stuff to write about. Unfortunately, it's getting bigger and bigger, and I'm having a hard time organizing it all...especially with the limited amount of time I have.
It's moderately interesting stuff...but I'm getting really really sick of scanning through the bible for quotations to illustrate my points. What the fuck is it with every fucking publisher and printing the bible in tiny-ass font?? Christians obviously discriminate against those with weak vision, the mother fuckers.
Just kidding. There's as much wrong with my arguments as there are possibly right ones. This kind of topic is purely interpretive...I already know the counterarguments a religiously grounded person would throw back, and they're about as equally grounded as any criticisms against the bible would be...meaning they're both inconclusive.
The bible is an ambiguous piece of shit. Theologians within the same church can spend their entire lives studying it and get vastly different things out of it.
Then you have all the fundamentalist protestant denominations that all claim to take the bible literally...as it is, without any improper interpretation. Then you see two pastors within the same church interpret stories in completely different ways that somehow always parallel current events today. -_____-
Ok...I don't really want to stir up another religious debate...I remember when a new topic popped up in blogs like every day for a while. lol.
Just wait until tomorrow when I'm gonna be working on my paper on Heideggerian existentialism. T_T.

This varies a ton... for some people it's great... for other people it's terrible... and I don't mean it's terrible because they screw up... some college experiences are bound to be rough.

I'm a horribly unmotivated person. I can't get myself to work on shit unless it absolutely has to be done. Fortunately, I'm a decent enough writer that even a bullshitted paper written the night before guarantees at least a B. Unfortunately, that doesn't cross over to exams.

this is why I refuse to do essays and summatives. Actually winging a presentation [part of a summative project] tomorrow. Should be interesting.

I'm horribly unmotivated because I'm lazy. It probably doesn't help that I can pull off passable grades on essays and whatnot on essays with only last-minute crunch time effort.
I've never gotten below a B on any essay I've written since coming to college, bar two. One was on the ethics of pornography...I scored a B- on a argumentatively sound essay, but I guess my tongue-in-cheek and somewhat sarcastic tone didn't sit well with my feminist and lesbian instructor. The other was on a comparison between Plato and Aristotle, which I winged without reading the actual text...only went off of lectures, of which I only attended about half.
I deserved those.
I've put in more than the bare minimum effort before and have walked out with both As and Bs...the Bs there were enough for me to feel rather disappointed in going the extra mile.
The statement is definitely sub-B, but I'm not exactly preaching myself as a model student or even human being here. I'm a bad student and I know it.
On another note...I'm working on my last term paper...and I'm also doing the readings I need to do only now...when the deadline is a mere sixteen hours away.
Fucking Heidegger. I have to reiterate/explicate a criticism some other philosopher made of Heidegger's process for transitioning between inauthentic being and authentic being...then I have to analyze and criticize his criticism myself.
