I think my comp is dying

Just got a number of weird blue screen crashes that said something about "MACHINE_CHECK_ERROR" and "STOP: 0x0000009C" or something like that. I'd restart normally and walk away for a few minutes then have that blue screen error again.

I decided to take out the usb2.0 card I installed a month or so back and then video stopped outputting. The monitor light was blinking as if the comp wasn't on or it wasn't receiving any video.

I think I mentioned it in previous blogs but the comp has been acting weird for the last month or two and considering it's nearing 5 years or so in age I think it definitely is screaming to me to replace it. Made a blog about that too recently. I guess I'll really have to start doing research and then come back to TL to ask for a second opinion to make sure I'm not doing something stupid.

Also, read up online that some people think it might be a hard drive getting ready to fail. Really hope it's not that, I don't have a spare drive to backup all my stuff. Might have to invest in a 1TB drive soon to backup everything and in preparation of a new comp.

Generally when your computer blue screens it is a hardware error.... You might try reinstalling drivers or picking out specific things you think might be wrong.. But an even easier solution, listen to your computer's calls.. Buy a new computer! :p

Yeah, I've intended to get a new comp for awhile for SC2/D3. Was just trying to wait until the last possible moment but I guess my current comp wants to force my hand.

I've been looking over the budget comps here: http://anandtech.com/guides/showdoc.aspx?i=3563 Just got get a rough idea of what is good these days. Also reading through my previous blog about comps where TL gave me quite a few pointers. Like I said before, looking to drop about $1k not including a new keyboard and mouse.

Actually, I'm just curious if anyone thinks there is a massive difference between a DVI and non-DVI monitor? My current monitor is an older 19 inch Samsung SyncMaster 914v which I got really cheap but it lacked DVI support. Some people told me I was really gimping myself back then so I don't want to build this fancy new comp and not get nearly the fully effect my having a gimped monitor. If DVI isn't really a must though, I intend to stick with my current monitor. Stupid new monitors are all widescreen which bugs me, don't like them for gaming.

I've had BSOD issues for the past 2 months. Both were resolved easily and diagnosed easily. Ram died both times. Replaced under warranty both times. Run memtest-86 to see if ram is the issue, though I'm sure someone more tech savvy can pwn my advice with something more specifically tailored to your case. GL.

one of your components has probably died from old age. Try using one stick of your ram and see if it still crashes. Also try using only one of your hardrives.

I can't make out any difference at all. I run two identical HP L1940T monitors right next to each other in a dual screen setup. One with DVI, one with VGA. I sure wouldn't be able to tell which is which.
