So I went to this concert yesterday where I got to see six different local bands, none of them being famous or anything.
One of them, called Defy the Laws of Tradition, sounded very polished and quite unlike most shitty small wannabe local bands we all know. : p If I'd have to compare them to some more known bands, I'd say they sound a bit like Unearth.
They have a ton of songs on their myspace, you can find them here: http://www.myspace.com/defytheweb My favorites so far are Good Mourning, Till Death Us Part and Epilogue
I just thought I might share this one with the tl.metalheads :D Feel free to post your own recommendations in here.

Yeah they sound very professional but metalcore as a genre is so overplayed imo. Too many bands, and all the mixing of screamed vocals and the annoying use of clean vocals sucks. Many of these bands come from a hardcore background and have developed a more metal sound, some because it's popular some because I guess they like it.
I'm more into "pure" hardcore and metal. I liked the track Good Mourning, cuz it's more straight up and heavy. Germany used to have some good hardcore bands like Ryker's, Brightside etc

Hmm...sounds polished, sure, but too much "core" in it for me. I dunno...I'm veeeery picky when it comes to metalcore and hardcore. Most bands focus too much on being trendy and heavy in that subgenre, and end up with a very immature sound, imo.
I heard the guitarist is a complete dick...weren't these the guys that blew up all huge and were on the cover of Revolver that one time? They were one of the most ridiculously overhyped bands ever...them and Bullet for my Valentine and fucking Trivium. Though, Into Eternity beats the shit out of those bands.
They're not a death metal band, btw. Just Progressive Metal.
I saw them when they opened for Dream Theater and Redemption.

You guys are so fucking lucky to have such good bands in your area...SoCal has a bunch of metalcore and hardcore shit. Two big names we've produced that I can recall immediately are As Blood Runs Black (such a dumb band...like half of all their songs are fucking breakdowns) and Atreyu (eww.).
And I just noticed my mistake. By Death influence in Into Eternity I mean there's none of that... aggressiveness, anger, heavyness, that you get with Death Metal. It's too tame.
Not talking about influences from the BAND Death, rofl.
