Haven't you noticed lately, every time you eat at a restaurant, the serving size just gets smaller? That shit pisses me off. I don't want to pay for half of the food that I eat, I used to eat about a year ago. Then later on the year pay even more to eat half of this half. Like and example, Ruby Tuesday. I used to eat the Penne Shrimp Pasta that was in a huge bowl that you would get full from it easier, and now it's in a horizontal plate and I didn't even get full when finishing it. Same goes for Chili's, Outback, Alehouse and the rest of these damn places. Give me your thoughts on this situation, and screw that whole "economy sucks." I don't give a fuck about that. If I'm paying 13-15$ for food I should be getting a good amount.

I bought a bag of bananas from Costco Wholesale today. I was suprised because it was like 8 bananas (normal size and a few big ones) for only $1.79 ...

Thing was, right above the bananas it said "$1.79 per lbs" which means it should have costed more ... stupid cashier MUAHAHAH!

But yes, I went to Moxies and before I used to get full off one of their pastas, now I need like 2 to be full and I swear like when I went to Moxies the first time it opened (when the serving was bigger) it was cheaper ...

Not just those restaurants, it's small places too. Fast food restaurants are overpricing everything now as well. There's plenty of restaurants that are giving less food and over pricing, Ra - Sushi, Bar, and Grill, The Pub, Stir Crazy, Seasons 52, Bahama Breeze, Pei Wei, PF Changs, BENI HANA, ect...

Also the quality of the food here is horrid compared to other places.(as far as my wife the nutrition expert tells me.)

Actually, Mickey D's is still pretty cheap, 3 burgers + 1 drink + 1 fries = a little over $5.00 CAD. Burger King has their Daily Value Meals which is a decent size burger, fries, and a drink for $5.00 CAD. Cheap and fast

It really depends...some places serve "American" portions...gigantic-ass mountains of food...while other ones really do shrink their portions.

I don't eat out at sit-down restaurants that often, but I haven't noticed a difference.

This.

I could barely eat down half a plate of the regular servings over in Boston. I swear, if they halved their servings, they could solve the world's food problems. >.>

Yea, I've noticed this too, many places are giving less food than they used to. Although with usually less people at each restaurant the food quality has become better because the chefs have more time to spend on each dish.
I always notice those two things at most restaurants I have been to lately.

Moxie's, Outback, and other restaurants (in T.O). were raising their prices pretty rapidly in the last two years or so, but perhaps with the recession, now they're cutting sizes instead. I've actually given up going to these franchise family restaurants due to what I saw as unjustified price increases, and eating out a lot more Chinese.

The worst in England is Pizza Express. More expensive, worse quality AND small pizzas for bigger price. All because they got famous, for having good prices, good quality AND good size ¬¬.

Either you eat something cheap so you can get a lot of it [in n out, chipotle, etcaetera]

or you eat at an incredibly upscale 150/ea prix fixe type place.

Anything in between is really pointless imo as you can just make your own food and have it be just as good and probably healthier + cheaper. ._.

yes. but to understand inflation.. you should not fear rising prices, for this is just a symptom of the root issue which is the fact that dollars are losing value. so what $1 could buy now takes $2.

inflation pretty much is it.

but it is true that americans get wayyyy too much food compared to what we should be getting.

thats why i stopped eating out/ eat only 1/2 of the food given.

This is why I love it when the government prints out 700 billion to fund something or other. It may look like free money, but that money comes out of our pockets in the form of all our money being worth less.

Bloody central banks. It's a way to tax us more without it being quite as obvious.

Serving sizes in this country need to go down, honestly. Restaurants serve massive quantities of food that are far more than anyone should be eating in one sitting generally. People eat those huge portions and then wonder why so many people in our country are obese. -_- One of my favorite local restaurants is a little Thai place that serves relatively small portions, which are excellent and don't cause me to overstuff myself or have leftovers.

I used to play WoW with a guy who moved from Canada to the US while we knew him, and one night on Vent we talked about differences he'd noticed between the two countries. One of the first things he mentioned was how ridiculous the amount of food served in restaurants here was; even big international chains like McDonalds serve far less food in Canada than they do in the US.

Yeah, I've noticed this too, although has anyone else noticed that while food portions have gotten smaller, drinks have gotten larger? I remember whenever I ordered a small drink, it would be just a little larger than my fist (and this is when I was younger and smaller), now whenever I order a small drink I get like a 20oz cup...or at the very least it feels like a 20oz cup, I never actually measured it.

Invest in a girlfriend. She can cook for you. It might be more expensive, but at least you can watch her to make sure she doesn't urinate in your food.

We get free refills of soda here (which doesn't really happen in England.) as well as unlimited side dishes at places where you dole them out yourself or other restaurants like those serving BBQ. (Mainly kimchi, radishes, sauces.) Also there is a culture of service (in some places) where you get freebies - I've had free smoothies, free extra pieces of food from stall owners and also in other non-food places I've gotten extra such as posters, keychains and other cool items I wonder sometimes about how the food quantity/quality in England has evolved in the two years and change I've been away.

really depends
the very upscale places do serve very little food (counted literally 8 pasta .. thingies? in one serving. EIGHT. you know as opposed to like normal servings where it's too many to count). of course the food is a pleasure to eat, it's delicious and the atmosphere is unbeatable. i walk away hungry though and a significantly lighter wallet so *shrug*. hasn't changed much imo

the regular 'asian' restaurants around here still give pretty decent portions (ymmv), but the 'western' ones too little imo now. i usually have to get like an extra bowl of soup or something to feel full in those

i haven't been to fastfood places in years, aside from subway, so dunno if anything changed in those. i used to love bigmac though, was like 5 bucks or something with fries/drink/tax. 5.17 maybe? something like that

Either you eat something cheap so you can get a lot of it [in n out, chipotle, etcaetera]

or you eat at an incredibly upscale 150/ea prix fixe type place.

Anything in between is really pointless imo as you can just make your own food and have it be just as good and probably healthier + cheaper. ._.

I disagree, I have eaten at every type of restaurant from bars to Michelin star restaurants. If I had steered away from everything in between I would have missed out on so many great food experiences, also I rarely find food on upscale places to be that much tastier than food from more normal places.

Note that I am talking about local owned restaurants, not fast food chains.

I've noticed lately that I have no problem downing a pasta dish anywhere I go where as maybe a year or two ago, I would have enough left over for lunch the next day. I wouldn't even mind so much if the prices stayed the same, but like you said they have gone up in some places! Oh well, it still isn't bad enough to where people won't go out to eat so I don't see this changing back anytime soon.

Hm... I feel that the experience can still be nice but more for the social value.

really depends
the very upscale places do serve very little food (counted literally 8 pasta .. thingies? in one serving. EIGHT. you know as opposed to like normal servings where it's too many to count). of course the food is a pleasure to eat, it's delicious and the atmosphere is unbeatable. i walk away hungry though and a significantly lighter wallet so *shrug*. hasn't changed much imo

the regular 'asian' restaurants around here still give pretty decent portions (ymmv), but the 'western' ones too little imo now. i usually have to get like an extra bowl of soup or something to feel full in those

i haven't been to fastfood places in years, aside from subway, so dunno if anything changed in those. i used to love bigmac though, was like 5 bucks or something with fries/drink/tax. 5.17 maybe? something like that

they serve very little food in each dish but you normally get at least 4 dishes.. the only times ive eaten at really upscale places I've had at least 7 dishes, that leaves me full even if each of them have been small..
