In need of Car expertise from Tl.net.
Under a low budget, I am planning to buying this car.
1989 JEEP WRANGLER, 4 cyl., 5 spd, 4x4, 98K miles, decked out for Off-Roading. Suspension Lift, 33" Tires, Spare/Gas rear rack, tubular bumpers and side steps and four spotlight bar.

My goal is to use this car for 4-6 years for college and commuting. If the engine/breaks/wheels are all fine, will I be able to use this for the 4-6 years?
Also, what are some things to look for before actually buying the car besides test driving it?

Edit 1: How about a 1995 BMW M3 With 135k miles for 8000 dollars? will that last 4-6 years? And is it more cost effective than the jeep?

You could probably get a smaller/more fuel efficient car for 5k. Trust me, when the inflation from these bailouts starts kicking in, you will hate yourself for buying this.

If you're going to be using it for commuting get something smaller. Are you actually living in Korea?

If you choose to buy one, make sure you get it inspected. I think that the 95 BMW would be a better deal, as I bet that it hasn't been as extensively modified. Unless you're actually planning on going off roading...

German cars are expensive as fuck to repair. My 98 Audi hurts my butt. But, they are pretty beastly, and will last if properly cared for. My uncle still has my grandfather's old Mercedes with 300k+ on it. Also, it's an M3, which basically means if there was a male behind the wheel at any point, that shit took abuse. (And I'm not sure but isn't that thing turboed? That's another pit)
That Jeep sounds like it's seen a fair amount of wear and tear, offroading and whatnot.
Your best bet (in terms of pure value, if you don't care about asthetics and shit) is in any random honda or something like that.

I think, there's no turbo on the M3.
Wikipedia says, the 1995 US model had 243 PS and Euro model 286 PS. Does that suit a low budget? I can't imagine that car having good mileage. Wikipedia also writes, the car was imported from Germany. Spare parts will have to be imported? I bet in the US, repairs won't be cheap with the old BMW.

Ok when looking for a used car always look up its bluebook value first.Kelly blue book.. For a used car look for around 100k miles or less for the best deal but going above it is ok with a quality car.
Next get the VIN number from the owner of the car and look it up at CARFAX. This shows the entire history of the car, damages and who bought and sold the car.. If everything checks out ok with these two things then you can start debating whether the price is good and if its a good car (no damages and few owners)..
Also when looking for a used car be wary of the brand, even if you find a car thats cheap its brand may be expensive to maintain like BMWs and Audis.
