I know, terrible pun. Anyways, I remember a day when everyone hated iloveOOv. He was called a cookie-cutter terran who beat everyone with almost the exact same, boring builds. He was also an arrogant douche who lacked sportsmanship. Nowadays, everyone seems to love "GORRILLA TERRAN!" and "CHEATER TERRAN!" He really hasn't changed his playing style much. Why the change of heart?

We got used to the playing style?

I wasn't around during iloveoov's debut so I don't personally understand the hate :\

people naturally like old-timers more than nobodies like Notice. When notice wins 3 starleagues and 2 years pass, people will be swarming him all the time too.

Agreed. Oov set the standard for the macro oriented style we see today. It always takes a few years to truly realize and appreciate someone's influence on the game.

I think the macro style of today would have happened regardless of oov (although it would have been slower to develop). Oovs innovative spirit saw what a future, incredibly efficient way to play game would be like way before everyone else

If this was Yahoo Answers, it'd go something like this:

Question: How come people used to hate that OOv guy but now they love him?

Oov wasn't that hated back in his day, not by most people at least. Fanboys of Nada/Boxer hated him (moreso the former than the latter iirc, but not by much) and they were much, much more vocal than the ones who liked him/didn't dislike him.

Why do so many people like him now? He's not the undisputed top player in the world making every opponent look like a wet-behind-the-ears pathetic newbie.

Photoshopped pics of him gorging on bananas don't hurt, though.

If one was a real Boxer fan it was kinda hard to hate Oov...I mean he's his student and the best of the SKT Terran dynasty line. Not to mention the Ever OSL finals where he beat Boxer is arguably the best finals of all time. They have huge mutual respect and Oov still calls him hyung.

Nada I can see though.

I dunno, I came after Boxer, never liked Nada, and just when oov started to get on his streak vs zerg. Man, I loved oov simply because he trashed those newb zergs. He was my favorite terran then, and still is now.

Obviously that makes a lot of sense and is very rational (and mirrors my own opinion both then and now, just to clarify), but in what time has fanboyism ever been rational or made sense? ;( The Boxer fans who did hate him (admittedly, many didn't, but again, the ones who did were drastically more vocal) may have hated oov simply because they were angry that the Emperor was no longer the best and wanted a scapegoat, or they were mad because the student had bested the teacher, or because oov, despite being the student of Boxer, played a style almost the antithesis of the Emperor's ... or maybe they really just hated his goofy faces. Who knows.

Oh, and I agree 100% about the Ever OSL: that's my favorite finals ever, despite my fervent hopes that Boxer would win that. God, the mixed joy and sorrow on both of their faces (obviously in empathy for the other) when oov won said all that ever needed to be said about them as players and as role models for the other players.

I think it's natural for every top player to have their share of supporters and haters, but when legends retire, the haters usually die out, plus he's just such a lovable guy I don't see how anyone could dislike him.
