i am very happy and excited that someone else likes rachmaninoff. just some background about prelude in c# minor, he actually despised this piece in his later years, viewing it as juvenile (which it is). compare this to symphonic dances or the third piano concerto and you'll see what i mean. good luck with this!

I've heard the 3rd, and I actually like the 1st and 2nd Piano Concerto's more. However, my piano teacher also loved the 3rd the most.

My hands will probably not be big enough for this piece but I'll try my best. Pretty cool to hear that simfarm! Guess its pretty normal though, in order to move on and progress as an artist you need to distance yourself from your earlier work.

I definitely should look into the 1st one though, I've heard it's quite good! I've heard that the 4th one is absolutely dreadful My friend said that Rachmaninoff once heard Gershwin play Jazz and therefore wrote a 4th concerto to try and imitate it, and epicly failed

Certainly the best I've ever heard (which incl. Rach's own), and as far as reputation goes, is only possibly bettered by Rachmaninov's recording. Honestly, I think there's good reason it isn't as famous as his second concerto, but then again I can rarely stand Rachmaninov.

I was going to watch it here in Toronto in January, but it reminded my mother of my late father who passed away a few months ago, so we didn't go =/. It's definitely my favorite one; I've been to a few concerts, but none of them have beaten my recording (Arthur Rubenstein) yet >_>.
