Yeah, piece in the middle wins for player one. Other columns I think are a draw or a loss.

No, I haven't played in a while, but I remember that the best move is to start at the very edge.

Wikipedia says 1st player can force a win by putting his first piece in the center:

Then you're not very good at connect 4

Starting at the edge basically does nothing for you. You limit yourself by playing there first. So much in fact it gives player 2 the advantage.

tic-tac-toe always start in the corner, you should never lose if you go first

Tic-tac-toe was the stupidest game ever. I remember all those elementary school kids thought that hitting center first was the best strat, so they always wanted to go first. Man, I was a smooth talker and was all like "I'll go first, but I'll let you have center." I was such a pimp back in those days.

@ post above me: yes, but its still a "never loosing" strategy. Better yet, taking corner first has many pathways where you can win if your opponent makes one bad move.

A mix between center and corners is good.
You should never lose, ever, regardless of whether you go first or second.

These are children games tbh, paper football is where it's at.

Meh, my favorite has always been thumb-wrestling. My hands our pretty big, so it generally imbalances it in my favor.

Oops, I meant putting it in the very edge is the best counter to red's first move.

Actually, I'm pretty good at Connect 4.

at least you cannot lose when you start from the center, and logically it is the best place to begin with. some of the noobs doesn't understand how important it is since they can't think enough far in the game.
