I feel for you, my mother was laid off from her job of 15 years last year (early '08) but she worked odd temp jobs while getting her nursing license and now has a pretty decent job at a nursing home so there is hope for your dad, it'll just be hard but good things will happen if you keep trying (help your dad with applications too, you can cover a lot more ground that way).

My dad worked for Petroleos De Venezuela Sociedad Anonima (PDVSA) and Chavez fired all of the engineers there in public TV a long time ago. Since it was the biggest oil company (if not the only one) in the country, we went from upper class living to low class in an instant.

My dad got laid off last week. Pretty sucky atmosphere around the house ATM.

I got laid off from my job about 1 month 1/2 ago. I was working their for about 2 years and a half.
