one flew over the cuckoo's nest, (seriously man) the good, the bad, and the ugly [plus a fistful of dollars and a for a few dollars more] once upon a time in the west the wicker man 28 days later (contentious though. I think it's really gripping)
you might want to get those films in order btw. Some serious gulf of quality in some of the films there . Definitely check out It's a beautiful life, bring your crying gear.
ps it's not a film but it's better than most films imo- the entire 7 series of star trek
|
No Country for Old Men Full Metal Jacket Stalker Sympathy for Lady Vengeance All three Monty Python films. Being John Malkovich
If you're also viewing standalone anime: Jin-Roh Ghost in the Shell Grave of the Fireflies

Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail = win

I'm sorry but that was some of the gayest shit I have ever seen. There were a few funny parts, but only because I was making fun of something in the movie -_-
Get some idea's from this thread too, a lot of people seconded/thirded/etc movies so you know they have to be half-decent

You gotta be kidding me! It's an outrageous story, a harrowing tale. It made me sick to my gut, and that's the point. Nurse Ratched is the personification of evil and all that is wrong in life, to me. It's like an audience with evil. It's so visceral. The book is better, and the story is driven by the striking plot; but come on, Jack Nicholson is so compelling in the film.
Again to use the word, the film comes to an outrageously tense climax. But then again, there are some classics I have found lame, so whatever man.
oh PS gone with the wind lord of the rings trilogy gladiator the matrix star wars (456) The Seven Samurai (also: The magnificent seven) Shine The Kid (charlie chaplain, seriously emotive performance and drama) Starship Troopers (Hell yeah!) Predator

It just didn't do it for me. Maybe my standards are a little high but then again I also love love love a number of movies that aren't comedies.
A couple comedies I still remember liking when I watched them are "Role Models", "Superbad", and "Zack and Miri Make a Porno", and "Step Brothers". I haven't gotten around to seeing Tropic Thunder or Pineapple Express but I heard those were really good too.
EDIT: OH, and the Harold and Kumar's ;D oo and you already have half my suggestions in your list, nice.

Lol more like several months or for me several years. That's a lot of movies right there!
Some weekend when you're bored you should have some friends over (well that's optional but otherwise I'd feel a bit weird) and watch all of one of the Star Wars/Lord of the Rings/Rocky movies. That's a good time right there.

For me it's like comparing an amusing drawing to the mona lisa when one compares for example the shawshank redemption to...the royal tenenbaums.
ps Watch band of brothers. It's like 12 films. It wins at everything. The blair witch project The descent Tom Yum Goong Final Destination (1,2,3)
man films are great. Gattaca, what a film. Oh, check out K-Pax.

My favorite movie is Once Upon a Time in the West, epic western with great scenes and incredible music. I just love everything about it, the story progresses somewhat slowly so keep that in mind, it's not some kind of action movie you really need to like the genre.
After that I love, well basically every movie HamerD mentioned lol our movie tastes are so similar.
