Hey, I'm currently a senior in high school and I just got a tutoring job tutoring a sophomore in biology. Most of my friends say that 10 bucks/ hr is a good price for tutoring while some of my friends say 15/hr is about right. I'm currently charging 12/hr. Anyone have any idea what the rates are for a high school tutor?

I was like 13.50 when I went to a place, and 18.50 when i went to their house. That's Canadian.

I tutor math to high school students and ask for anywhere between 15-20euro/hour. That for senior year high school students though lol.

15 EUR seems to be the upper limit here for university students. Some do it for around 10 EUR. If you're in high school yourself, you charge a little less, if you visit them at home, you charge more.

I think 12/h are perfectly fine if you don't have to drive too far. Try negotiating a success fee or something maybe.

Yeah I plan on doing it after school at the school library so I won't have to drive. I'm starting today, any tips on how I should approach tutoring?

I never tutored for money as a student. Are there any official student-student tutoring services set up at your school for comparison?

If you become a teacher of certain areas such as physics then you can charge over one hundred dollars an hour in nicer areas :3

Over the summer I tutored SAT math for 30/hr. I worked at a company though. Also, it depends on the area you're from.

Do it for free :O, I'm tutoring for community service hours so I can graduate......

Some tips I would suggest are
Be confident in the material
Don't teach them wrong things
Don't end up doing their HW for them
Have a plan before you start

Best of luck making some money

depends on your neighborhood. if you're tutoring kids in rich neighborhoods like Lexington, MA. you could get paid up to $50/hr no joke, but you need some "credentials" (aka going to ivy league). professional tutors cost twice as that, and aren't that much better, so rich parents are willing to pay college students an obscene amount. you just need to advertise yourself well.

edit: i just realized that you're still in high school, so you have to charge less, but the same rule applies, if people think you're an expert, then they'll pay more.

yeah, my name was on the list as a math tutor but I'm ending up tutoring for biology (currently cramming some biology since it's been awhile)

Agree on that; that sounds like a reasonable amount to charge.

$120/hour here

I'm not kidding at all.

I tutored for $35 an hour here and the people I was working for told me their last tutor charged market rate ($120/hour).

Yeah, I'd say $10-15/hour sounds right, from my experience.

$23 American for private tutoring a few years back. If you are going to people's homes, charge more.

Private tutors at my uni usually charge around $50.00/hour. I work for the economics department as a tutor, and make $8.50 an hour. That situation is slightly different though, as I am guaranteed as many hours as I want, it's only 9-5 M-F, and when no student is in the tutor room I can do homework, watch VODs, or dick around with the other tutors.
