In SoCali, as a high school student doing private tutoring (as in not backed by some hakwon or tutor place like Kaplan or whatever), I think anywhere between $10-20 is fine. It'd be under the table, you're not a professional, etc.

It all depends on how greedy you are, and how generous the kid's parents are.

Hey, I'm currently a senior in high school and I just got a tutoring job tutoring a sophomore in biology. Most of my friends say that 10 bucks/ hr is a good price for tutoring while some of my friends say 15/hr is about right. I'm currently charging 12/hr. Anyone have any idea what the rates are for a high school tutor?

The market price for most of the US is $25-$35. Don't settle for $10-15. The people who work for that price are usually refered by friends and family and just aren't willing to negotiate. So long as you're out of high school and you know the topic you're teaching you should get $25 an hour.

Minimum $25 + factor in driving distance.

I tutored for a long time and it was sad to see how many tutors didn't realize they were getting gipped.

Well I'm still in high school so I guess I lack the credibility to charge that much. I guess I'm going to work for 12 as of now and then up to 15 later on

Work study as TA at UW only gives you minimum of like $8/hour back then. After the undergraduate degree, depend on subjects you teach and degree you have. tutoring schools will pay you ranges from 15-50 an hour in my area. I used to do it for 25/hr teaching physics and math classes half time, not sure about that guy's 120 per hour, Gmat tutoring was only about 50/hour, 120 seems very good, I wonder what subject he was tutoring, CPA I suppose?

depends on where/how u do it. I was in a tutoring program and they pay 12.5/hr. I assume if you go private you can charge around 20.

If I were in your position, I'd aim for ~$15/hr

As long as you're in a decently rich area, you should be able to pull it off

I charged $15-20/hour but it was for an upper division college class with very few other people who could do that type of tutoring. I also earned 2 tutoring certifications and did over 100 hours volumteer tutoring before I started charging. Since you are in high school, and probably not offering a service that is very hard to come by, I recommend not going over 10.

But remember, if people are willing to pay it, you are not overcharging. Good luck. Make sure that your service is worth what people are paying you.

if someone tutors me physics(mechanics/E+M)
or calculus(high school level) - mostly on how to graph and determine what a graph looks like IE relative extrema; 1st 2nd deriv test.
or chem II.. all i've been doing is memorizing stuff.. which is fine but
i just don't get thermochemistry at all. Like nothing(conceptually like physics). The negative/positive(from the systems perspective- always) ... energy equations.. constant pressure constant volume.
i get Lewis structures+ Geometry though, so its fun ^ ^
... i'll happily match those hours with SC tips? (weekends)
my credentials are B- zerg
I would stay after school for tutor sessions but musical takes up nearly all my time after school

I was gonna say I wish my students were B- so that I could learn from them in exchange for free tutoring... but then I realized I can't even get the kids to come to extra help which is free tutoring.

Jesus Christ! What if someone who really needed help couldn't afford that? I wouldn't charge more than $15 an hour to tutor anyone, unless maybe they were really really slow, and rich.

I do tutoring for students in my school at $10 an hour. No preplanned times or anything, just "Hey think you can help tutor me in math for a while after school? $10 an hour!"

I've made a decent amount of money doing this.
