Actually, while this was probably written as a joke, I would seriously go with this. Obviously it gives you a rather unique angle which is something that's all too often missing from application essays (I should know.. oh and for god's sake please don't start with a definition). Think about the "necessities" of modern life and how many of them wouldn't be here if it wasn't for science. Same goes for popular hobbies, etc. Whether you want to specifically mention SC or not is up to you.

This was wayyyyy more funny than it should have been. Actually is not a bad idea though. My recommendation is to do that to just get some words on that page. Filling up all that blank space with some black is a good start, even if all your wrote was "Science cured the plaguuuuuu"

2. Even if it's something nearly inconsequential, any new scientific discovery is essentially irreversible. Now that it's known and disseminated, that particular fact is known and will henceforth never be "unknown" (short of a cataclysmic event). Science cannot be reversed; like time, it only progresses in one direction. This is not true of progress/success in many, many other professions. And all the other stuff people already mentioned.

If you are writing an outline already and don't know where to start...lol i dunno man just think about it, try to make a point, make illustrations about the point, and evidence about those illustrations(PIE paragraphs).
