It only took me 3 seasons to do it... I've gotten close (1800+ before) but I always got raped back down. Today I finally crossed the barrier!
I'm scared to start making games like "Andromeda D+" instead of "Andromeda D" though.... then the rapage begins even harder than when I was D. Oh Starcraft.. what a cruel mistress indeed.
To be honest, I can remember when I was D-/low D and barely managing to scrape by any wins... I think my lowest score was like 740 or something. I would be embarrassed to host games that said "Python d-."
My progress was so slow that when I would sign on TL.net and see people talking about how it took them 6 months to hit C- I began to think that maybe I just had no natural ability to play the game at all. And I know I have no natural ability to play the game at a A+ level... but people say that D is super ass bad! And I was D! How could I be so bad and yet have progress seem impossible!?
Well.. I'm D+ now after about a year and a half of casually playing Starcraft and I'm so proud! Thank Jesus Christ. And let no one tell you progress is impossible! Just keep playing and casually pushing your limits. I never mass gamed or anything.. so.. if I could do it, so can all you other D's out there! Good luck!

grats =) i hit c- a few days ago but im too scared to play im at 3045 now. one more and im back to the red's.

I reached D+ for the first time last night too. This is my second season playing, and I kept getting stuck at 1800 and losing like five games in a row to Terrans. I finally better at scouting Terrans though, so whenever someone tried using the mech build last night they just lost. I'm looking forward to getting my ass handed to me in D+ though, and I'm hoping that I'll have a lot more fun.

ZvT is so fucking hard. Props koreasilver! Maybe I don't understand the matchup well, but whenever I try it out it's a flat out rape. I never have enough minerals... or attacking units.. or.. anything.. lol.
BUT THEN WHEN I TVZ THERES MUTALISKS AND ZERGLING FLANKS AND LURKERS AND WHAT THE HELL HE'S EXPANDED 3 TIMES AND IS GETTING HIVE!??!?!?!?!
Fuck! lol. I love Starcraft though.. so intense. I think I'm going to go play a couple more games :D. And clazziquai congrats on C-! I saw your thread awhile back :D

It's all just practice and massgame, at least to me. It's tough now to outthink your opponent. T's a tough race to play. congrats.

I saw your thread awhile back :D Haha, well, during the previous season the mech build didn't really get popular, so I was able to clinch wins at the D level by doing relentless 2hatch muta builds which eventually tore down most Terrans. But then this season vultures started raping my drones and I had no idea wtf to do, so I went back to my old account to try out different things. I'm still very bad at ZvT though, and if I don't end the game during the midgame then I just get fucked. I'm really bad at using defilers.
After I started using my new main account again, I planned out specific builds to use on some common maps depending on starting locations for ZvT; primarily on Python. It has helped out a bit, but I think learning how to scout what build the Terran is doing has helped me more than anything last night.

Great job! Congratulations on surpassing a level that stumped you for those months. But now, it's time to quit :o
I'm not even trying to be sarcastic, because the higher skill level you play, the more you get sucked into the game. Once you start understanding the game enough to compete at those levels, it becomes more of a chore; I'm speaking from personal experience. Of course, there's absolutely nothing wrong with playing this game casually or even pushing your limits a bit further.
I tell you to stop around there because, unless you can reach the A ranks with a solid game and am aiming to win a WCG or go pro, there's really nothing more to benefit. I would say that breaching D/D+ into approximately C- is okay since you can do that without dedicating too much time, but after that, you'll be fighting upwards at an exponentially harder rate. Basically, it's not worth it.
Anyways, congratulations again on surpassing your goal! Getting past a rank this season is much harder than it used to be, so take that as an extra bonus for leveling up! :o

'benefit' is relative. If you wanted rewards or recognition for getting better, starcraft wouldn't be the game to start with, now would it?

Not necessarily, no. I personally found it rewarding just to see different colors, and receiving +'s on my rank, etc.
Upon retrospect, I was chasing a star that steered me way off course

I reached D+ near the beginning of the season
but
my score went like 2200 --> 1970 -> 2050 -> 1950 -> etc x 50
so now i rest at 2400~, a lucky streak of fighting cheesy D+s who otherwise suck
It seems that D+ Protoss and Terran are rape to my Terran "(. But D+ zerg as of yet still seem to not be able to fight against massive amounts of marines that I shove into their face with lackluster micro.
Congrats on D+, a milestone for da n00bs of SC like me

Hey Vasoline, since we both suck at the ZvT, TvZ, I wouldn't mind playing with you whenever we're both not busy. My main ICCUP account is hana.jd; add me if you'd like to play sometime.

Congratulations, theres no natural hability at all its just gaming and effort. C- is not that far you know? go for it.
