Anyone that grew up during the arcade era, may remember a game called Street Fighter 2. The game was hugely popular and nothing in the arcades ever came close. It made it onto videogame magazine covers for months. The arcades was packed full of people just to play the game. It was a phenomenal money maker. Small shops like pizza places that had little rooms would have only SF2 machines since the demand overwhelm the supply. It easiily pay off for itself in a few months. 2 more expansion, there was even more praise and people kept coming. Kids would buy anything SF2 related. SF2 for the console was released. Despite being an expensive game, it sold out leaving many waiting for the next shipment. There was even a SF2 movie. Jackie Chan has a SF2 spoof in one of his movies. Years afterward, it just disappear and died out. Nothing else came close to its world wide popularity.

Exactly the same in SF2: world warrior except that Ken's kick throw has a roll animation. After that they became increasingly different.

I spent way too much of my childhood playing this damn game. Unfortunately, I kind of stagnated and never really got into many(see: any) of the sequels--at least the sequels after turbo. I still have it for my snes, which I will play from time to time.

Also awesome is that my campus got an arcade cabinet last year that has SF2: Championship Edition on it. Suffice it to say, I logged a fair bit of time whoopin' people's asses at it.
