ya iono, it's kind of weird. Until about 2-3 months ago I never cared about pets much. But I think when my friend got one and she wouldn't shut up about it I kinda realized just how nice it would be to have a dog.

You're better off talking with the guys at the abandoned dogs place though. We've always got ours from there.

As time went by i started becoming more affectionate towarsd the rabbit, and i can touch and clean its feces and piss no problem. I can't imagine walking a dog now and picking its shit up with a plastic bag, but i assume as time pass i'd be more affectionate towards it and won't mind it anymore. Garden + shovel

I'm not a fan of labradors myself (they're a little too small for me) but they're certainly good looking. Gender doesn't really matter, especially given how most males are castrated anyway. I think it'll be worth it. man it's so random but i hella want a dog. wish i lived on my own

dogs are very transparent, their personalities show in everything they do. i mean, they're dogs. you'll probably very quickly find a dog that you want to take home and though yes it will eventually die it will be the best thing ever dogs fuckin rule. if you've never owned a dog before try to find one that's at least 1-2 years old and has been fixed, they'll be way way easier to deal with dogs are A LOT OF WORK. if you're not prepared to give your dog a lot of attention, if your schedule wouldn't allow you to spend a lot of time with your dog, DO NOT GET A DOG. it's very easy to neglect a dog and not even realize it, and that shit is cruel the bond you will share with your dog is like nothing else. it ain't love, it ain't family, its your dog and there's no relationship that is similar. there's a very big difference between "this is a dog that knows me" and "this is my dog". dogs are fatally loyal, so always be nice to your dog unless its fuckin doing something bad dogs fuckin rule

here's mine, she's a shetland sheepdog. we got her from a breeder for $300 in spring of 2000, it was a 2 hour drive both ways to the country. when we first got there we got to meet her parents and look at the entire litter to pick out the one we wanted. my dog was the only one that didn't hide from us, instead coming up to bite my shoe which i took as an indication of either extreme stupidity or precociousness. the first few weeks she was a nervous scared wreck and honestly just a big pain (one that was too cute to get mad at though!). luckily she picked up on potty training and general etiquette really, really quickly and within a few months our relationship became what it is now. the first thing you have to consider before buying is obviously breed, and this doesn't simply involve just deciding what kind of dog you think is cutest. some energetic breeds will develop very severe personality or physical problems should you tire of them and stop playing with them, or simply don't have enough space for them to run around. even small things about them make a big difference; for example, the long hair on the sheltie breed can be very bothersome to clean up or comb, and requires them to be inside more during hot weather while their genetic predisposition to eye and leg problems leads to more checkups and medication. all these things add up more than you'd think when you're living with it. other small tips... - i think many people will advise you get your pet from a breeder instead of a pet shop for quality reasons, though personally i don't think shops are that bad at all. - i strongly suggest getting your dog when s/he is only a few weeks old because 1. they are REALLY fucking cute, it's absurd really 2. you can avoid 'tainting' by other people since you get to them first. - for males you have to consider neutering, for females spaying. i would recommend getting a female because they're just simply less aggressive and easier to manage. - really do your research! make sure you have a vet picked out, dog hotel ready, maybe an invisible fence if you live near lots of traffic, etc etc. should you get a dog, prepare for your life to be changed. i lost sooooooooo much of my high school cynicism and jadedness interacting with this animal, and it just astounds me how willing they are to match the effort you put in. the emotions they express are genuine, their intentions pure, and the love that they give is without catches. it's worth every moment of scooping up shit and scrubbing carpets. good luck!
