See a doctor and stop listening to loud things. ESPECIALLY ipods or anything that goes directly into your ear. This is how Beethoven went deaf, yo! I'm perplexed that tinnitus isn't common knowledge by now, it's a very frequent condition nowadays. Most of the above posts are useless. This is with 99% certainty tinnitus. Tinnitus is reversible if it isn't too severe, although it seems like it's progressed to a pretty advanced state in your case and you may need therapy depending on the severity of the situation. Just make sure you stop listening to loud noises. Good luck!

So another cause could be long and regular exposure to too loud music/noises. It might also come from stress. so if your under high pressure right now, go chill and tinnitus will go away.

It's weird though, I dont listen to anything that like..goes directly into my ears, not those types of headphones. Occasionally I use my Altec Lansing ones, but they wrap around ear, not plug directly into it. So weird :-/ Good thing part of the automatically deducted expenses on campus here is health care :-). Although, until I have time for that on thursday.... I want to strangle a fucking cat. This high pitched sound is so damn loud.

Do not candle your ears. Just go see a doctor, and if he recommends candling, f him and go see another doctor. Ears and heat do not mix. If you need inner ear cleaning (though that has nothing to do with tinnitus), have a professional do it for you. Do not pour peroxide in your ears, do not fiddle around with sticks, do not light candles inside your ear.
