Recently I have read that apparently some guys at channel #55 on west still play vanilla starcraft. In addition, there seems to be a whole (but not very active) vanilla starcraft ladder:
http://www.sc-1.net/

Does any of you have any gaming experience? What is the balance? I played public vanilla some time ago and all the public players sucked. I also came to the conclusion that Z>T because marines from 10 barracks are not enough vs the tech switch; P > Z, because even the "american" hydra dancing does not work that well if P goes FE; and P<T slightly - because terran doesnt have to be afraid of DT drops and goliaths dont have range upgrade (on the other hand wraiths could be more viable due to lack of corsairs).
I can be completely wrong, however.

Basically, Im interested in some top level TvZ replays, as I would like to see how to play terran. My idea would be to do a sort of mech build->FE, with nonstop marines, but Im afraid that goliaths will get owned by hydras.
Would that work? How do people TvZ in vanilla? Anyone wanna play some vanilla games - PM me.

I'm thinking TvZ would involve some kind of mass bunker to victory. -.-, otherwise, just mech with wraith harrass.

Z > P, Z can mass mass mass muta and P can do nothing about it. vs like 4 control groups of muta you need mael or sairs, meanwhile those things are why you don't see 4 control groups of muta made ever

muta micro didn't exist back then but it doesn't even matter as the trick there is to keep your mutas spread thin so that storm and archon splash don't do much

i'd say T = Z until you throw extremely gosu muta micro and defiler use into the equation. there's no stim but there's no lurkers, it's basically a macro suicide fest similar to how warcraft 2 played. but with today's standard of micro i don't see any terran getting past muta harrassment.

the guy above me is right that bunkers do play a much bigger role, though. bunkers are good, it's just that medics are so much better

TvZ on Vanilla is hit 'n miss in my opinion. If your opponent has the ability to micro his mutas properly, then life can be difficult due to lack of medics, but other than that, it's qutie balanced.

My opening bo vs zerg's on vanilla is always 2rax into a CC, it's pretty good build. After the completion of your cc, you must then adapt your opponent's build order.

If he goes muta, then try and aim for a quick science vessel build while pumping on 5 rax. If he goes Hydra go 2 fac tanks while pumping on 4 rax or so!

Remember grades are pretty vital in SC!

Europe has some nice Vanilla players, the Clan Lordz and mL are pretty respectable.

Msg me sometime, we can play a few!

I think channel Pogi at east is the best channel for vanilla starcraft.

To play T you wanna do a biometal terran always. Start with 2 rax rines with u238 shells, then vults/mines, and siege tanks. Obviously need to bring scv with you constantly to make bunkers/depots/turrets. Build goliaths if needed as well, but BC might be better.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

Apparantly none of you play Vanilla at the highest level.
@ US East, pogi is the biggest channel, and it has the most random skill levels.
TvZ you really just play it normally, but you have to save your stims, and use them at the best time, and there is really no SKTerran, you must go 2 fact tanks usually.
PvZ is almost the same, bar the corsair harass.
ZvP you play more oldschool sauron style.
ZvT you can muta harrass into mass sauron hydra, or just muta/ling etc, almost anything works.
TvP is much easier with no threat of dt.

It is, I just made a mistake.
I got 2 hours of sleep, and vs most vanilla tosses, they try to push a macro war, no reavers.

You have to go to channel pogi at mid day/night.
Best gamers are in clans like v.S) Oi) uC) sS).
Skew used to smurf around there.
rS.Fayth smurfs around too.

http://www.sc-1.net/ That ladder has so much potential btw. I like that there are replays of every game, nice to watch. But they missed to introduce it to east where most people play. Would be really fun if we could make it more active cause vanilla really miss a ladder I think.

Pogi used to be pimp back in the day and it's still active. Don't know anyone there these days though. LC died I think, as did toyland. So did starcraft newbies

I always thought P > T since carriers are rigged with no goliath range to counter them.
