edit: this isn't for me, my friend's computer just died; he's looking for a replacement. yes, he would get the most value out of waiting for the actual sc2 release before he got a computer, but right now he has no computer and no tv. i don't think he wants to build one himself either.
-----------------------------

Dell Home Inspiron 530 Desktop
$469+tax and free ship.

Specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB)
350w power supply - don't know what brand
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Service Pack 1
No Monitor
3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs
500GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache
16X DVD+/-RW Drive
Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
Dell USB Keyboard and Dell Optical USB Mouse
Dell 19 in 1 Media Card Reader
No Modem Option
No speakers (Speakers are required to hear audio from your system)
McAfee SecurityCenter with anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, 30-Days
Microsoft Works 9.0
1Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor, 24x7 Phone Support
Included 3 GB DataSafe Online Backup for 1Yr
Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1
Integrated 10/100 Ethernet

link

so my question is this: do you think with a value-line video card this will run sc2 on max/near-max settings? im not sure with a 350w power supply that it can handle mid/high range video cards.

the power supply could probably handle an 8600GTS which I would suspect be able to run SC2 at max

I would aim for a 8800GTS or 9800GTS (if you have the money) video card and at least 520W power supply.

350w wont do it.

why would you buy stuff now for something that isn't even out yet? No one can predict this.

no...if you're only spending 450 on a comp, he should have some change to drop on a decent graphics card/psu

Junk. You will be much better off whit cheapest o/c dual core and good video card. Actually cheapest E2160/E2180 o/c will be about as fast as Q6600 in games.

There is no point in buying 8800GTS/9800GTX now when HD4850 is better, and cheaper.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128084 75$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116052 70$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211281 84$
HD4850 ~=200$
PSU there is no chieftec that I alweys buy in Poland but ~50$ good 450w is enough.

But if you don't plan to play any new games now then obviously wait and you should get something good 500$-550$, and not that Dell that will run games like it is 1995.

Why would you buy a comp now for sc2 when it's not even out yet.

You realize that those same parts are much cheaper by the time it comes out right? Also dell computers suck balls.

Don't buy a SC2 computer 6 months before SC2. This should be a pretty simple concept.

Dell probably will never have a deal that they can't beat if you wait for the next opportuninity within a few months :p

Well that may be true micro but eventually you gotta buy one. Also I think any half-way decent new computer being bought nowadays will be able to run sc2. I can't see them making the requirements that high.

If you are going to buy a computer for SC2, then wait until the day SC2 comes out and buy one then.

In computer terms: TimeWaited == ValueGained. I am planning on a new laptop for SC2 but I am not even shopping around until it is within a few weeks of the SC2 hitting store shelves

OUCH!!!!

There is not way this will play SC2. And that power supply is just not going to be strong enough to handle a decent graphics card. I would not reccommend this computer.

You're better off building your own PC. When you buy factory made computers they always come with an onboard graphics card and weak power supply. So you would have to spend even more money on that. If you don't know how to build a computer from ground up, try asking a friend who is good with computers or ask around for online tutorials.

Half-Life 2 is playable on an intel 3100. I wouldn't be surprised if SC2 runs on it.
