There is going to be a game development contest this Saturday at my college and one of the categories is for game mods. Now I've been working on a single player campaign for CoH for awhile now and I intend to submit that for the level design category but I'm looking to create a new map for the mod category. I'm trying to brainstorm ideas but without too much luck.
If any of you have played Company of Heroes, I'm looking to create a mod that can be demo'ed for judges in about 5 minutes so it has to be quick and exciting. So big long battle campaigns aren't well suited for this. Shorter arcadey type of mods would be best I think.
I originally though of a cool idea using snipers and stuff but in the end decided that sneaking around with snipers would take too long and end up boring for the judges. Then I thought maybe I could so something like a Frogger style game with tanks going back and forth across a big field and you have to run some infantry to the other end. Still sort of boring unless someone has some ideas to spice that up.
Anyway, thanks for any ideas in advance!

Is your single player campaign uploaded somewhere?
I played that game only for the single player (I got it with my video card) but I'm definitely interested in playing another one .

Sharks with Lasers vs. Robotic Overlords World War 3 edition!! or frogger with a jetpack trying to dodge mortar rounds

@spenguin: I could try to pull of space invaders but as you can imagine in an RTS you can't use a tank of some sort without heavy modification since units simply auto target and don't miss which would sort of take the fun out of Space Invaders. I'm thinking I'll try to let the player "shoot" by using the CoH equivalent of spells. So you'd be shooting artillery at the incoming enemies. I'll see what is possible, but if I can get that to work in this engine that sounds pretty cool.
@Twisted: We're pretty close to releasing our first map so I'll certainly keep you posted. We made a new DDay map from the ground up and we're working on having custom character speech and stuff. By the way, if you could name maybe the top 3 most fun/memorable moments from CoH's campaign what would they be? I haven't played the game extensively myself, so I'm curious what other players would want to see in a new SP campaign.
@zdd: We currently don't have the ability to add new models or effects so as cool as sharks with lasers vs robotic overlords would be that is currently not possible. The CoH engine really isn't as mod friendly as WC3 for example. Another example, CoH doesn't really support flying units at all. So modding in a jetpack is pretty damn near impossible. I can't even give units a "no clip" like attribute to let it walk over obstacles/water/etc.
This is a quick "not so complete but close" list of what I can do in the engine:
-Conditions: (we can detect these to use as triggers) Check for invulnerability Check if unit is in cover Check if unit is under attack Check if the unit has an upgrade Check to see if the unit can see a certain unit Check how many units are left in a squad Check if a unit is onscreen Check if a building is empty Check if unit is attacking Check who last attacked a unit Check if unit is moving Check if the player has the cursor over a unit Check if the player has clicked on a unit Check if a unit is close to a marker Check if unit is in camo Check if unit is retreating
-Commands: (when a trigger occurs, we can make these happen) Capture/Abandon weapon Move Attack move Use ability (grenades, etc) Construct building Set/Detonate demolitions Garrison/Ungarrison Move Away from a Marker Move To Closest Marker Reinforce squad Retreat Ceasefire Make invulnerable Set average health of unit Destroy unit Modify unit speed/rate of fire/damage/suppression/penetration/sight radius Transfer ownership of unit Set player or AI's population cap Reveal/Unreveal the fog of war around a marker Camo a unit Warp unit to marker
Not sure if that helps.
