Side effects I noticed = stomach feels empty no matter how much you eat, tongue might go numb and eyes feel swollen. It's hard to hold onto a thought, and you laugh at the dumbest shit. Pretty decent as far as drugs go... I prefer alcohol, though, because when you're drunk you don't care how dumb you look, but when I got high I was always a little self-conscious of how stupid I was being. Weed's good for people that get bad hangovers, imo. | ||

The whole thing about weed being classified as a "drug" is ridiculous. Drugs have the connotation of being mysteriously menacing and dangerous. Consider that weed is less destructive than alcohol, in that you don't get out of control while you're high like some people do with drinking. You're goofy and good-natured if anything. If society were to ban substances based on how dangerous they are to yourself and other people, alcohol would be banned before weed. That being said, you mentioned you have a strict family. So, it sounds like you're thinking about doing this for the reason of being rebellious, because weed has the whole naughty label. The reason to smoke weed is to have fun and relax, and get to know your friends better. People tend to open up when they are high, and say funny, memorable things. I really like people, and most of my friends tend to be more conservative in their personalities, and I'm a bit more emotional, so smoking weed kind of evens out that difference and we always have a great time. Weed is like a good time waiting for you in a bag. | ||

Still, I am a believer that America is over-drugged as it is, and that heavy use of any drug is problematic (even caffeine.) Keep in mind that marijuana does affect the mind in many complex ways, and that any heavy use, especially in a young and developing mind (the brain is still developing up until about 23 - 24 years of age) could have undesirable consequences. In other words, try it if you like, but don't become a stoner. Another thing to keep in mind is that if there is the risk of getting in trouble, you may have issues with paranoia (weed can make you incredibly anxious and paranoid.) I tried it. I loved it. I became a regular user of it, and used it at least a thousand times (perhaps many more), and I developed some problems from it that I think are now resolved. As to any brain damage or long term effects on my memory.... I truly can't be sure. I'm functional, but might I be better? I feel sure the hellacious anxiety disorder I had a couple years ago would not have happened, or certainly would not have been as extreme. Others on TL.net have developed mood/psychological disorders that are probably a result of marijuana use. In short, if you choose to do it, be careful, and as with any drug, use in moderation (at most.) If you respect it, I'm sure you'll be fine. As to what to expect, the first time is often pretty ambiguous for people. You may or may not realize you are high. What you can come to expect is extreme changes in your sensation of time (it may move faster or slower for you), a serious decrease in short term memory (you will forget what you are saying mid sentence - it's kind of fun), changes in sensation (senses become more vivid and powerful), changes in thought (you may have epiphanies - make connections you never saw before, etc). You might experience weird spatial sensations (you are incredibly tall, incredibly small, you are rotating through space very quickly.) You may experience thoughts and feelings that you didn't realize are possible. You may also become very paranoid, scared, and experience some degree of chest tightness/breathing issues/racing heart/cold hands. As you use marijuana more and more, the powerful sensations that you knew when you first bgan using will become less and less common. Eventually you adapt to the experience and it's not the same (it is less powerful, and less good, I would argue.) | ||

I recommend against using it regularly though. It seems to make people more uninterested and "stupid" in the long run. And because the effect of weed isn't exactly a big deal you'll get used to it soon, and then you are in danger of trying out harder drugs which can be very addictive and unhealthy. The dealers you get weed from sometimes sell harder drugs too or know others who do that, so the source is right there at your fingertips. I had three friends who got really weird after using weed for a long time. They also started using harder drugs in the end. I quit contact to them then. I don't know what's going on with them right now, I just know that one of them ended up being a bum (yes, literally). He was good in school when he started his drug journey. Then his life went downhill. | ||
