On my way home from work every day I drive right past Six Flags America. I've never been there, although I went to Six Flags Great Adventure a couple of times many years back. I'm not huge into amusement parks but I decided to get a membership this year for two reasons.
- I drive right past it every day which means when it's open I can stop off after work to eat if I get the dining plan.
- I'm about to start commercial flight training, after which I will need to do some spin training to work on my instructor certificate. In the future I also want to do light aerobatic flying, so getting practiced in g forces and twisting around at odd angles may not be bad idea, even if I won't be in control and don't like rides all that much.
If you get your membership early in the year, you get a pretty good rate so it isn't that big of a financial commitment. I think their goal is just to get people into the park where they can sell you more items at a decent markup. There was a bit of confusion about when and how I get my membership pass. I know I'm supposed to go to the membership office on the first day to get my permanent pass, but I wasn't sure exactly what to use to get parking and to get into the park that first day. I used their contact form and it is a bit hilarious how much effort it took for me to draw the correct answer out of them. Each of these messages after the first one was sent via e-mail:
Me: I signed up for a Diamond membership but need my pass number in order to access various membership systems and sign up for the rewards program. Will I receive the pass in the mail? I only have my order/account number so far and nothing printed out. Thank you.
Six Flags: Hi micronesia, Thank you for your note
You will be able to pickup your membership card when we open for the 2020 Season March 28th. At that time you can sign up for your rewards etc.

Yes, please bring the voucher as well because with memberships you have free parking so you would want to present your voucher at Toll Plaza so that parking is covered.

Minor details were changed.
It sure took some effort to get my voucher! I realize Six Flags America is considered bottom tier among all the Six Flags parks, but given my purposes I don't think that will be an issue.

Definitely the "least good" of the theme parks around here, but some rides are OK. It gets crowded as fuck though, so I highly recommend going on off days or really early in the morning as soon as they open. Has been years since I've been to it though.
Reminds me I want to take the wife to a theme park this spring, it won't be this one though.

I've only been to Six Flags America once, but I really enjoy Great adventure as it has some of the tallest and fastest rides in the nation IIRC. The atmosphere and feel of the park are pretty meh, but I'm there for the rides so Disneyworld was actually a bit of a let down for me considering all I had been to was great adventure rides.

Does the membership give you free food and decently close parking? I feel like that's pretty clutch for the food alone if so LOL

I do get reserved parking (with some restrictions) and I added on a meal plan.

You should definitely meet a nice person of your preference who frequents or works there. That would give you something extra to look forward to when you stop there. Maybe you can do a quick tinder profile with a tagline like "Looking for chicks who like thrills!". I'll be waiting eagerly for updates.

Line for the first car of any roller coaster is the longest. I settle for second car so the people in front of me act as my windshield. You're going to be thrown around like a rag doll either way *shrug
They also make you pay extra for some rides, even if you have membership. Like the slingshot, which they won't let you on if you're by yourself.
Two visits to the park and you should have already made back your membership fee.

Does going on rides (coasters, flatrides, etc) actually help you build up your immunity to motion sickness? One youtube video I watched, the reviewer of SF America said he won't go on Batwing because those types of coasters make him sick, but he went on everything else. If I was in that situation but went on Batwing like a dozen times over a few visits, would I generally be more resistant to motion sickness? I could see that coming in handy for me.
It seems kind of like how new sailors sometimes get sick, but eventually get used to being at sea in rough conditions.

sorry for dropping the turd and bailing. Out of all the six flags that I have been to I found the maryland one to be pretty lackluster outside of wild one, batwing, and the swing ride. If you do go pretty often and enjoy it then of course its worth it. You could also make a weekend trip and go up to six flags new england.
How much G's are you experiencing flying and how does it match up to what you experience on these rides?

I'm primarily getting the membership because of my proximity to this park, and of course, I can visit other parks if I so choose. Not sure it's worth it to me but we'll see.
How much G's are you experiencing flying and how does it match up to what you experience on these rides?
As of yet I've gone to only very slight negative Gs momentarily and maybe 2-2.5 sustained positive Gs, but in the future I'm likely to push that further.

Honestly, yeah it would probably help. And different rides give you different feelings. I can ride coasters that flip and twirl all day at crazy speeds and G's. But anything that just straight spins in a circle gets me nauseous, even though it is far less "scary" than the roller coasters.

I grew up 10 minutes from Six Flags New England. Its a solid park, but really only has about 1-1.5 days of things to do, after that it gets a bit stale. Maybe i just feel that way because I would go almost every weekend for the entire year on a $40 one-time full year pass, and got eternally burned out on that park. If anyone here ever ends up going though, Mind Eraser (renamed The Riddler Revenge) and Flashback are sick rides and the lines are really short most of the time.
Went to Great Adventure one time a few years ago, it was sort of the same.
