Will I pay to watch it? Nope. My work tends to do a company outing to the star wars movies so that'll be the only way I watch it. If they don't do it then I don't see myself watching it. TLJ left such a sour taste in my mouth.
I'll have more fun watching the activity around the film as opposed to watching the film itself.
i've heard of this boycott movement where you buy tickets for some other movie and then just go into the theatre for the movie you actually want to see. this is easy to do because they usually only check your ticket to get into a block of theatres not into each individual theatre. This is way to watch whatever movie it is you are "boycotting". Life is complicated in 2019.

All the theaters in Jacksonville are upgraded to fancy, reserved recliner seats now. That is not possible here.
I'm really conflicted. I hated Episode 8 (ended up joining Saltier than Crait in order to talk about it more.) But if I don't see it, I can't analyze it. And that's one thing I do have fun doing- analyzing why stories work and why they don't. I won't go opening, that's for sure. But I'm a sucker for punishment, so I'll probably see it at some point.

Unless, he's the OG Starkiller from the early drafts of Star Wars IV.
Considering that 41% said that they didn't like episode 8 (so they've seen it) and won't pay for 9 I'm not sure how you got to that conclusion. Which is still a higher number than the 34% who said they hated it but will still see to watch it, which is the group you are referring to.

Episode 8 was the first Star Wars that I did NOT see in the theater. Certain things I was seeing from the cast and crew raised red flags for me, and I never go on opening day to movies, so when the reviews hit, I was like "I'd better wait."
So, I dunno. I didn't watch Solo at all. Their decisions are affecting my spending, at the very least. I will watch it, but I'm undecided if I wanna go to the theater to do so.
Phantom Menace blew, Attack of the Clones was alright, and Revenge of the Sith is my favorite Star Wars movie.
The Force Awakens was alright, the Last Jedi blew, so based on precedent I'm hyped for Episode 9. Or maybe it's going the other way and Episode 9 is going to be really fucking terrible in my eyes.
The last Jedi had some structural issues, continuity failures, and poor choices, but overall it was a pretty fun movie and had some awesome scenes, cool fights, and badass moves. Overall, I still liked it a lot more than episode 7 because 8 is a unique movie while 7 was just an inferior remake of 4.
