3 Hatch Muta Meta-Analysis [ZvT]

TheThrone 4 Posts April 17 2018 08:43 GMT #1 I've recently started a series of Meta-analysis videos which will cover Strategies, Player's styles, Openings and Map analysis. Some of you may have already seen my first video but I thought i'd share it directly to TL also ahead of my second video which I'm planning to upload tonight. These videos are also a learning experience for me on video editing as I have little prior knowledge, so bare with me as I improve video to video. Any criticism or requests for topics are more than welcome.

Letmelose Korea (South)3227 Posts April 17 2018 09:54 GMT #2 sAviOr was indeed revolutionary with his take on the zerg-versus-terran match-up, but I believe it is wrong to pretend that sAviOr remained undefeated in a series versus the terran race from 2005 to 2007. All of sAviOr's best-of-series defeats versus terran players between 2005 and 2007 1. Preliminary group finals for So1 OGN StarLeague versus Shine[Name]: Loses 0-2 2. Preliminary wildcard stage for So1 OGN StarLeague versus Yooi: Loses 1-2 3. WCG Korea 2005 versus Silent_Control: Loses 0-2 4. Preliminary group finals versus Hwasin: Loses 1-2 5. IEF 2006 versus iloveoov: Loses 0-2 6. Shinhan Masters versus NaDa: Loses 1-3 Even if you exclude WCG, IEF, and Shinhan Masters for being side tournaments, there's the fact that sAviOr failed to qualify for two OGN StarLeagues due to losing in a best-of-series to terran players. Add the fact that OGN StarLeague had more than 150% of the prize pool MSL had at the time makes his early exits quite noteworthy in my opinion. Saying sAviOr was undefeated in "official" games versus the terran race between 2005 and 2007 is like saying Bisu was undefeated in a best-of-five series between 2010 and 2012. There's an element of truth to it, but it's a hyperbole designed to obfuscate matters. With that being said, it was nice revisiting sAviOr's genius, and how he moved the paradigm of standard play from two hatchery play (not necessarily all-ins, because GoRush based his games around two hatcheries and his game was anything but all-in in terms of style) to three hatchery play.

TheThrone 4 Posts April 17 2018 11:25 GMT #3 I suppose you are correct on the particular wording and that it should be something along the lines of in premier korean tournaments only between a specific date range but I thought that would be abit verbose for the purposes of the video. Fair point thought all the same GoRush certainly deserves some credit for laying the foundations for a lot of the management focused zerg play and perhaps a topic i'd like to cover in another video. Letmelose Korea (South)3227 Posts April 17 2018 15:43 GMT #4 I just don't understand the logic behind pretending that it is okay to ignore sAviOr losing a best-of-three series in the round of 78 of the OGN StarLeague, even if it is labelled as something else (offline preliminaries), while at the same time, labeling something as a badge of dishonour to progress past the preliminary stages, progress past the Dual Tournament, get out of the round of 24 group stages, progress past the bracket stages, then losing in front of a large crowd to a terran player for everybody to see, instead of losing quietly to a terran player who also goes on to be eliminated at the round of 33. It is a meaningless distinction that trivializes the records of players who were actually good enough to retain their undefeated winning streaks within a series setting. The entire aura around a best-of-series, and the statistics that go with it, is entirely based on the fact that it is a superior indicator of skill than the regular best-of-one series usually reserved for the lower rounds, which are usually scheduled in such a way to lessen the broadcasting demands. However, preliminary stages are not held back by television schedule demands, only the resilience of the players under a best-of-three single elimination setting matters. It wouldn't be such a problem if the video was of a more casual nature, or more of a fan tribute for sAviOr, but for a video that looks to be education in its purpose, such disingenuous trivia shouldn't be thrown around, unless you want to give people the wrong idea about sAviOr's performance against the terran race during his prime.

Letmelose Korea (South)3227 Posts April 17 2018 16:41 GMT #5 As for the video itself, I think it might be a nice touch to highlight sAviOr's troop movements on the mini-map to make it easier to follow the maneuvers both players were attempting at a single glance. Colour coding might be one way to do it, and perhaps contrasting how much it differed from sAviOr's contemporary peers under similar circumstances. + Show Spoiler + I think this would be a decent point of reference for how other top level zergs approached the match-up at the time, the quarter-finals match between YellOw[ArnC] and NaDa on Longinus II in the very same tournament.
