good on you! so about 12 minutes, this is where you start on describing how overwatch will be the next star? i have been playing games for quite some time too, and with a lot of focus on competitive aspects for each. overwatch has been on the fence for me for a number of reasons but really it's just a very good game that would justify its $30 tag just because it's fun and it's great with friends. however, when it comes to comp.--and i haven't talked to any other comp. players about these things--i think there are quite some issues that will keep it from being a good game to watch and play in the long run. nothing will prevent it from being good fun, and a great place to display your hats. i could see it being the star you describe especially since there is more involved than just skins.

you're right, esports for overwatch is something that is not clear the important question is: does the game needs it? Nowadays every single game with multiplayer tries to implement their pro circuit asking ESL for it or just doing by themselves (Metal Gear Online or Street Fighter). To be a Star, it's not required but I would be super fun to see it happening

I believe that to be one of the best for an extended period in FPS you need a decent pro, or at least competitive scene. I think it speeds up necessary changes/fixes to the game that may otherwise bring it down (cheating, bugs, abuses).

the only reason why i say this is because of the sheer amount of people involving themselves and wanting to improve over each other. the competitive culture just grows naturally from there, so blizzard and other organizers just facilitate it as the natural next step. if we're thinking about forcing money into it and trying to make it blow up as an esports, i don't think that's necessary. in my opinion, it can take the shape of whatever exposure and ingame competition it can get. if blizzard predicts their fps market share and potential is huge, history shows they throw money into it partnered with other organizations. valve is clearly succeeding on the esport front without having to control the pro circuit ala riot and LoL. however, they have quite some influence and control because their tournaments are so high-profile. money is the highest, invitations to the biggest tournament of them all, and that status/treatment at said tournaments. eventually it gets itself to be a convention. a community within a community, and i can see how overwatch with its characters and design can be that way with the extra content you mention in your video.

I completely agree with you here
