But not everyone is on board with where society is headed. Some fight to free the people from the bondage of virtual reality. Some fight to right wrongs." First word is off (or is that what you fixed?) Anyways, it sounds a bit like the Otherland series + Show Spoiler + Which, on its wiki, has the following description: "The story is set on Earth near the end of the 21st century, probably between 2082 and 2089 [...], in a world in which technology has advanced somewhat beyond the present. The most notable advancement is the widespread availability of full-immersion virtual reality installations, which allow people from all walks of life to access an online world, called simply the Net."

I've never heard of the otherland series. Interesting that no matter how original the thought, someone may have beat you to the punch. I'll give it a look when I find the time.

A dollar for first feature is a pretty common strategy on the Amazon market these days. Some people even make their first book free in order to drum up interest for their second release . Gratz on finishing the first one. Wish you many happy returns.

Thank you your suggestions though. The second book will be a lot longer by hopefully 200 pages.

I'm suggesting it so that you can maximize your traffic .

When I release the second book, I'll make the first book free for a period of time. Thanks Qwyn for the suggestion! ^_^ If there has been any problems PM me and I'll try to sort them out.

Well, just grabbed a few pocket-sized paperbacks from my shelf, to estimate wordcount: Wells - Invisible Man ~ 55k (scifi) [Dick - A scanner darkly ~55k] actually not on/off my shelf. Gibson - Neuromancer ~ 67k (scifi) A grand total of about 46 pages of white space out of 270, wow. O'Connor - John Locke ~ 70k (phil) 42k words seems a bit low, even for scifi. A "page count" of 42k however seems a bit heavy on the everything. 42k * 2.5g,... that book would weigh in at 106+ kg (without ink). But yea, if you're gonna advertise *here*, don't make me go to other websites to read a preview.

The books they make you read in school tend towards the shorter side Animal farm 30K give or take. Actually, I think they have started calling books that are between 20K and 50K novellas.

+ Show Spoiler + The neoon lights of the digital district shown like a beacon to lost souls. In this part of the city, anything and everything was for experience. Like the ‘Net, you could find whatever it was your soul desired most. The cyber bars were the most popular attraction, offering a safe and exciting way to partake in virtual adventures. Some chose sexual desires, while others chose to live as someone else. The disconnect, how they were brought back to the real world after their time was up, was a chemical solution and a memory told to the operators. When the time was up, a solution was pumped into their arms, slowly fragmenting the dream and replacing it with nonsensical items. Then the memory was programmed and inserted, helping to complete the disconnect. There were of course other cyber bars that ran on a more near permanent solution than renting. And those were kept guarded and secret from the prying eyes of the Warden and hardliners.
