Hello everyone,

Its Ler_GG with some exciting news! I finally managed to get the Magic number of 6000+ MMR.

Last time I wrote a blog regarding MMR was back in December 2014 (Blog) which was about playing support when you are not aware of the average MMR of the game you are currently playing. Since then a lot has changed.

Changes:
- Average Team MMR is shown on start.
- Highest MMR player of both teams is shown on start.
- A complete Meta change due to the Patch in May.

These 3 points have been pretty important for my 6k journey.

Let me explain why:
First of all, knowing the average MMR of a game gives you an idea in which bracket you are currently playing. With this knowledge, adapting as a player is a key to victory (If you are not sure what I am talking about, take a look at this Climing the Ladder Part1 - The same concepts also apply to the 4k 5k and 6k brackets, they just differ heavily). Abusing roles, farm distribution and mentality in the different brackets is very important to maintain a high win rate.

Let's talk about the second big change, the highest player in each team. There will be games from time to time, that are literally 1000 MMR below the usual games. These games have most of the time 1 high MMR player in each time paired with 4 very low MMR players compared to the high ones. Knowing this before the game starts is crucial. If you manage to take out their secret weapon, your chances of winning are very high. With this information you most likely know where the high MMR player lanes and you are able to hard counter / play against him yourself. Own him, win the game - Simple as that.

So these two chances make a really big difference compared to the match making a few months ago. Crucial information is given which heavily influences decision making while picking and laning.

In May 6.84 got released which had a huge impact on the meta. This allowed me to benefit on a certain hero: Undying. He got a nerf twice, but that did not change anything for me since I got my own way of playing the hero.
When I started to play Undying, I sat at roughly 5,250~ MMR which was around 10. of May. Approximately 3 weeks later, I hit 6000+ MMR just by spamming Undying. When I came in low MMR games, I tried to skip Undying and go for some high Impact Mid like TA.

Thanks for the read! If you got any questions or also want to get some dirty MMR, post your questions here - I will try to answer everything

Greetings,

Do people actually enjoy climbing the ladder by spamming relatively op heroes? Honest question here because I find more satisfaction climbing by first pick randoming all the time.

Pub is cancerous anyway. Earthspirit, Bloodseeker Troll and Sniper. Spamming one good hero to maintain a high win rate should be normal in a competitive environment like a ladder.
If people enjoy spamming OP heroes? I dont know. I can only speak for myself. I like undying a lot since its a really high impact support if played correctly which also allows some really sick plays sometimes.
Randoming is fine. But I highly doubt anyone could maintain 60%+ win rates(in the 6k bracket) by randoming.

Essence of the blog: 5000 mmr skill player spams pub breaking hero to break into the 6k bracket. Did I get it right?

This was a pretty fun blog. I mean, most bloggers like this would probably try to hide that they spammed a pub-killing hero to reach some MMR threshold. I would normally expect people to throw out cliches like "i got better and became more of a team player" or "i tried very hard and improved my mechanics" or so. This blog just says it straight up "i picked undying :D".

I'm not sure if I should feel respect for actually coming forth and telling it as it is or feel disgusted because someone needed to resort to spamming an OP hero to reach his goal. :p Oh the conflicts!

This sounds very much like you are incredibly jealous, cause you probably can't even get past 4k, by spamming (supposedly) OP heroes.
Or are you just angry at dealing with Undying lol?

well done Ler.

Any tips on playing dirge? I notice you often finish games with guardian greaves or arcane boots but rarelywith a mek, so is this a mid/late game pickup that you don't really want a mec but want the boots. You also seem to prioritise glimmer cape over solar crest in most games even sometimes when there seems to be more physical dmg on the other team.
