This was a media conference after their first Winners Bracket victory over CDEC.
I thought for a couple days how best to translate this. A direct transcription of facts leaves out the character, and it is precisely the character that is enchanting. In the end I've decided to summarize some interesting parts. Thus what follows is not an exact translation, nor has the original chronology been preserved.
Q: When Lycan was picked, you slammed the table. Is it because you thought you outdrafted the opponent?
Zyf, Yang, or "Bewitching Spirit" 妖精 as he is called in Chinese: I just wanted to adjust the atmosphere and get the team excited.
Q: DDC, you will be attending TI for 5 consecutive years. Your former teammate ZSMJ in LGD has failed to attend TI in these 5 years. Do you have any thoughts?
DDC: Yesterday I was below watching the match, and they were in a losing position. It was quite heartbreaking. As a professional, your only dream is TI, and it is really a pity.
DDC also said that he prefers last year's qualifier format. Groups depend on luck of the draw.
Q: Lanm, in the match directly after leaving the fountain you went to deward the camp-blocks. Was this studied or on the fly?
Lanm: We watched replays. They used the same spots as in the group stage.
ROTK is quite an animated person. He speaks loudly with confidence. A reporter was asking him a lot of questions, like if he has a girlfriend, and he asks her "From which news office are you?" and when she answers he says "Okay, we'll remember you now." Here are some other questions.
Q: In the second game you fed first blood, and the crowd cheered. How do you feel about the saying "Old captain feeds first blood, the script is stable"?
ROTK jokes: I think they're all talking out of their ass. I calculated their damage. Teammates told me Earthshaker blocked bot lane, meaning ES and Furion are there and top has only Rubick and Juggernaut. Level one I skilled surge and should have no problem escaping. I double-tapped 5-6 times, and it still didn't surge me and I knew, damn, I'm dead. The first game the hotkeys were fine, but the second game for some reason it didn't work. Very mysterious.
Q: Yesterday your voice was quite hoarse, and now it's better?
ROTK: On the first day our form was rather terrible and I had to direct a lot, and so my throat was hoarse. But after, even Zyf and CTY started to lead the tempo, and so I was more at ease.
ROTK also explains that in real matches, you should never criticize your team, but say words of encouragement like "we have a good mid game" and remind your team to just stack the jungle, etc.
He thinks that Dota is, in a way, figured out regarding team aspects. Supports will start the game zoning the offlane, then go to break smokes, sit behind mid, stack camps, etc, and these are things all teams do. The question was about protecting and helping mid. On the other hand, when asked a question about styles, ROTK gives a very generic "teams use styles that suit them" answer.
ROTK considers EHOME a growth team, this was afterall their first offline tournament. He also thinks young stars like CTY and Maybe have too much more potential growth ability compared to Sumail.
CTY from SG
CTY is an interesting guy. He's somewhat tall and thin. He sits with his back straight, but without being stiff, and he measures his words carefully but without being stoic. Last year we heard from a teammate that after failing to qualify for TI he got emo and left for his hometown. I translated an article about him a few months ago here. (It was ostensibly about all the wildcard teams, but its main purpose was to talk about CTY.)
He introduces himself as CTY, initials of his real name Chen TianYu. He has a few nicknames, such as "Man Without Rival Before Six Minutes". A reporter asks him about another one:
Q: Do you know that people are calling you SG之子, son of Sgamer? Why?
CTY thinks for a moment for a response, before quickly blurting out "I don't know." The main anchor tells him, of course you know, you have to answer. And he says it's because he is a forum member.
The reporter then asks him about all the people praising him. It is sort of a meme on sgamer that "CTY is one of ours from SG. You cannot flame him." CTY responds to the reporter's question about the praise, "People who flame me are numerous too."
Regarding teams, CTY says he's been playing professionally for awhile and EHOME is the best team he's been on with the best environment. He will work hard to bring good results.
There were also some bonus questions for 71. Since WCA is coming up and CTY is not allowed to play, they were asking if 71 was going to play. 71 is surprised that WCA is coming up, isn't it in December? Then he is informed that a Chinese decider is coming up. He tells the reporter to just directly ask what he wants to ask.
The reporter asks him about the standin.71 situation. 71 says that the players are mischievous and used his name. The reporter asks him, then who was playing.
71 was not being amused and says "I am never one to drivel. Don't ask me."
