Start playing support in pubs. I bet you'd explode from motivation.

Maybe you should handicap yourself. Play with only with mouse, play with boxing gloves, tie your eyes etc...

Play unranked with the heroes you are not amazingly good at until you get comfortable to play ranked with them: Win / Win

I think I've played only couple games of solo ranked after I broke 4k like a year ago. I have to admit that there's a small fear of tanking below 4k again but I think it's more so because I reached my goal and the next logical goal would be like 5k which felt really far away and I feel like not attainable with my current level of skill. So I just play quick match or team ranked with friend since he insists on ranked and I figured I'l get back to solo ranked once my skill has increased and climb up easier then.

This might actually never happen since I've been playing less and less and this has mostly been with my lower mmr friends while I used to play with player better than me in the past and it feels like I've actually downgraded my play due to the poop tier matches I play in. I actually used to be primarily support player but now I'm pretty much obliged to play cores since people I queue with are over 1k MMR below me.

So due to learning new roles and thus also losing my grasp on my old main role while playing less DotA and the games I'm playing being lower level matches I can't help but feel like going ranked atm would be a horrible idea.
