The more I read this thread, the more I realize how cool NASL was. Thanks, Mr. Bitter. I miss the Glory Days of SC2 as well.

Great post. I felt really underwhelmed by NASL but always felt bad about it because I wanted it to succeed, but it just didn't compete with any of the other leagues out there.

My favorite thing MrBitter took part in was the 12 Weeks With The Pros series, that defined me as a player I feel.

I always felt underwhelmed by NASL because they promised a lot but failed to deliver. They wanted to play with the big guys (back then MLG, Dreamhack and GOM) but lacked both the expertise and the funds. On top of that, the shows were often more about the entertainment on the side than the actual games. As fun as those videos of the crew going nuts are, I watch Starcraft 2 tournaments to see great games, not too see videos of people having fun.

If the most memorable moment of a Starcraft 2 tournament was non-Starcraft 2 related, then you're doing something wrong.

I tend to agree about the entertainment part. The shows felt very "American" in the sense that they were focused on a kind of over-the-top-entertainment rather than putting the emphasis on the games and players. With that said the production was great of course and i'm sure it appealed to a lot of people, just not so much to me.

I agree 100% with both of you.

I 100% disagree
they're the only ones to actually have tried to do something different and create "a real" show concept
the only thing i didnt like in the show was rotterdam's english & casting
mr bitter had a bright future ahead, mind the lack of hairs

NASL may not have been the most structured or well produced but it had a very fun charm to it which didn't care about such restrictions and just wanted to make it entertaining for everyone. The production was creative and I have yet to see a tournament quite like how NASL did content or intros, the casters were having fun and the games were of high quality. NASL had their flaws but I will always remember them for being very unique in a sea of SC2.

Also the NASL concept of a weekly league was super sick SC2 wise

I don't think I'll ever forget the replay I casted of yours before you became a caster yourself. I still find it amusing that both you and PainUser became casters after I casted your replays.

But I'm very glad I don't do casting of that nature anymore. I absolutely hated the nonstop negativity I got from the sc2 community. I'll stick to my niche LP's.

God I miss NASL. Of course it had its problems but I loved the idea and passion behind it. Watching the weekly casts while trying in vain to get my high school homework done. Now i'm in my second year of college and barely watch SC2 outside of some of the big events. Not because I don't like it; rather, life gets busier and my free time shortens.

It was a great a show but I think 12 week with pros was much more valuable contribution to community from you and what gained you my respect.
