I have to sporadically intervene to save the day with many computers around here. The equivalent of the fishing thing was golf tournaments for my mother, accounting stuff for her small business (I still do parts of it), administrative stuff like I deal with some of the bills and whatnot. Itunes here and there, setting up new devices, entering the wifi password, setting up email accounts, retrieving passwords, explaining how to put files on a USB flash drive (and ultimately having to do it myself every time). And yet they're learning. My mother is getting better at it, but it's still frustrating. She barges in while I'm trying to do a 1v3 (1up'd you here bro) CSGO clutch with her iPad and she's like Carl look at this thing that some person sent me ain't it interesting. But here's the thing she comes with her iPad but she doesn't have the thing that she wants to show me ready in front of her, she has to pull it up. Yet on the way there she'll get "lost" and push the wrong thing, and instead of going back, she'll push the "home" button and she'll say "shit" and I'm there like HGNNNNNNNN MOM NO. As much as being home for the holidays is great, being the amateur IT guy for a household is not easy. Especially not when you need those quick headshots. Amirite? Your dad looks like f'ing boss.

Similar, uninstalling a program can be a nightmare. Then they got an apple and now everything is fine, because Macs are idiot-proofed so, if your parents are technology disabled, buy them a fucking Mac! You don't have to run this abominable piece of shit of a PC, but they will love it ^^

My mom bad in a different way. She's at least generally competent with computers in that she can use email and basic stuff just fine. But in her mind, that makes her an expert, and she makes all kind of dumb assertions. Lots of older people are real bad with computers though, and assholes like the geeksquad rip them off hard. My coworker brought in his laptop yesterday. Geeksquad charged him $100 to transfer his files (which didn't even fully work), and installed a bunch of random shit onto his computer. This coworker couldn't even figure out how to locate a file and create a desktop shortcut.

). he had no patience at all, but due to his profession (salesman / industrial manager) he came in contact with computers quite early. (must have been the early 80s) he also gave me my first pc ever when I was six. he never knew how the thing worked exactly, but he was able to do most of the "normal" stuff. when he got older, he lost interest and preferred books over anything else.my mom has no idea of computers at all. she's happy to be able to control the tv.
