So with the TI4 about to start I imagine a lot of people are thinking about doing something related to Dota besides playing it. It can be anything, from an artist, to a caster, from a pro-player to a content developer.

Is there any more room for anyone to make himself a name?

The automatic answer is yes, since in general, not all the spots are occupied, are they?

When we think for a second, becoming an important member of the community is going to be more difficult if you pretend to do it by your own means. This should never discourage you in your wish of doing something you really wish to, but it should give you a reason to think twice before turning on your twitchtv channel and start streaming your pubs and asking why people doesn't watch you.

There are some channels that were streaming talk shows, with some really sad viewers. Probably they were saying interesting things, but if you are not well known or have a special guest you will probably have a hard time getting viewers... well I don't want to involve girls in this.

Some advices that comes to my mind ("hey, who are you to give advice to people?") are:

1.- Your twitch channel, or your show if you want, must have something to offer, something to bait some viewrs in. It's sad to say but good content is not good enough I think. Probably some giveaways!

2.- Probably there's no need to be Sherlock, but if you live in a country with a not so big Dota scene you got a good chance to make yourself a name. Starting in your local region is probably the best way to make yourself a name, haters aside.

3.- Get ready for some hate, since Dota is a difficult game, I think people in general feels they know way much more of what they really do (myself included lol), so unless your MMR is so high that reddit looks like a pool of noobs, you should try to ignore the hate and understand the critics.

It will be very entretaining to see the newcomers in terms of streaming, not only players. I live in a country with a really underdeveloped scene and I have a blog in which I note some strategic and statistical Dota stuff and things doesn't go bad... If I can do that with almost no-effort you can do something better with good effort!

Just that, I hope you all have fun during TI4 !!

See you later TLers!! ^^

Sadly I have to disagree on that. I live in a country with not that much Dota action (topmost 1k viewers for biggest event, 40-80 occasional stream followers) but has some player base.
Aiming locals may give you some quick followers(I mean you can peak 50+ with giveaways, constant content etc..) but the numbers are limited because of the lack of international viewers. Without international numbers, you can't get into the scope(twitch partnership, more resolution etc..) and eventually you'll be against the wall.

You need English content but casual locals will not follow your stream unless you live in a well developed country where %95 of people know English well.
All in all, local streaming gives you a comfortable low number with little competition but will stuck you at some point.
Tuning English potentially promise more number but rough competition.

A second thing is that you early in a career want to decide what your end goal is.

If you want to be the best streamer in your language and region. Go for it, you will get a lot of opportunities due to the low competition.

If you want to compete with the major English studios/casters/streamers then you need to start in English as well. You can't just one day switch language and expect to be good linguistically. It will take months or effort to get a good flow and the contacts you want for dual casting etc. You will still have your game knowledge, camera skills, jokes, inside knowledge and so on but can't express it.

A third way is to just produce better content than everybody else, highest mmr, best team skrimming and so on. Then many can look past the language problems.

Oh yeah, I meant to 'strart locally' :p I think starting locally can build up some of your basics, obviously if you aim really high, you need to enter to the english (or chinese I guess?) language spectre

I agree a lot in the point that it's really hard to switch languages but I don't think is bad to participate in 2 languages communities if you can speak 2 languages. Obviously you have to pick a main one, but you still can help you local scene as well as make yourself a name in the international scene... ... obviously, you can't just have everything lol
