My round 1 strategy was a disaster. Ranked 1500 or so. I went with all-SKT lineup, with Rain as captain (couldn't trade him away), and only Classic and someone else made me some points. This time, I want top 300 at least. I'm going to maintain this blog to keep track of my progress. Feel free to comment.
I followed the progress of top 2 players from last round, Thruth and sasquatch, and learned a couple of things:
1. Main team: If they're not playing, don't have them on your team! You're not playing? You're not making me any points. Yes I know you are a 1 pointer on SKT or KT and you'll give me 1 point by default from your team winning, but that is passive. Need active points!
2. Anti team: if a guy is playing, they're gonna be traded for someone who doesn't play. The only disadvantage of having someone that doesn't play on the anti team is if their team plays and they win, you only get -1. But if that player plays (and god forbid wins an ace match as well as a regular match) you'll be in trouble - look at Creator this weekend, instant -8 for people who thought he was overrated at 5 points.
3. Trade... and get lucky. I'm gonna trade like a mad man. But seriously, any win/loss increases/decreases the trade value of your players A LOT. More than I thought it would. One win will make your player more valuable instantly!
4. Get 1-2 high hitters and get lucky they don't flop like rain did last season. Too many high pointers and you have to get 1 pointers to fill. You can't do it without high cost players. Again, all top 300 players have at least one high hitter. I got Zest because of his all-kill against SKT and TY.
5. Get 2-3 high ratio of cost/points won from last season. Players with 4-6 points. Don't have too many of these, otherwise your team will be mediocre. I'd rather have one 7 pointer and one 1 pointer than two 4 pointers. I got Rogue here.
6. Get lucky with ppl who didn't play last season or research them. How will gumiho, choya, mkp, life perform in proleague? Who knows. .. I got MKP because it's a TvT and he's only 3 points.
7. No more "all players from one team", doesn't work like that anymore. The team bonus for a 3-0 has been decreased by 2 points compared to last year's FPL.

Wildcard. Had one of the best points/cost last season for his price. Hope he keeps it up. Hyped by Major. If he doesn't perform in the first 2 weeks I can trade him.
Rogue vs Stats(P) -> aligulac says 60% Rogue (he lost but let's see next game)
Rogue vs Hydra(Z) -> anything can go
3 MarineKing
Wildcard/Filler that plays at least 1 game, vs Dream(T). (and he won - Great pick I'd say)

Filler that plays at least 1 game, vs DRG (he lost but still won me one point)

Not bad. I was at 270 yesterday and a lot of people that have Creator in their mains are now above me, but I'm hoping Rogue and TY will give me points tonight. Zest was totally worth the money already, TY will win me money in the future. Kassia still gave me 1 point even though he lost his game, same with Turn and TY actually (heh). Not the same for Rogue but he still has the potential to.
MarineKing, HELL YES. His cost was 3 points, but now his trade value is 4.10 !!! , just for 1 win (And his team win).
He's almost as valuable as the following 5 pointers who either lost or haven't played yet:

Now, for next week: Zest, TY, MarineKing are here to stay. Turn won me totally unexpected points so he might stay even if he doesn't play. I'm conflicted about what to do with Rogue, he cost 5 points and didn't win anything. His trade value is pretty bad now, 3.95. I should give him more chances depending on who he plays next week. Kassia at 2.10 will probably go if, say, Gumiho (1.43) plays next week.
I realized it's IMPERATIVE to having players on the bench on your anti: 1. Their trade values are lower after the games, so they can be traded more easily next week. 2. The most you can lose is -1 from team win. 3. No surprises of losing 8 points in one night (for example Creator, ouch -> trade value jumped from 6 to 7.35, and the people who are stuck with him can only trade him off with Flash, Zest, Maru, TY, or Soulkey. OUCH!!!!)

Oh boy! Where to start. How about my anti. Before the first week, it was GREAT knowing that 100% of my anti players will not lose me any points because they're not playing.
But week 2, Here's the situation on anti:

Oh yeah, Trap must go! The other game, involving soO, soO vs MarineKing is going to be played after these 3 matches:

Either way, the choice to trade soO or to trade Trap from my anti is clear. Options are: Curious, Squirtle, Hydra, Cure, Stork. Who doesn't play this week? Curious, 0-1 so far, still on IM. With how stacked IM is, he won't be fielded much. The option is clear. Trading Trap for Curious.

Sacsri is a safer trade (STOOOOOOOOOORK).
I don't know about trading KassiA, though (he's on my main too and I'm torn between trading or not). On one hand, maybe it's the last chance to cash him out for better player. On the other, he's the best Zerg PRIME has, so he'll always be fielded.

I traded KassiA for Sacsri and Turn for True. I have Jin Air as my team, so any team win is going to give True an extra point. KassiA has no chance against Trap because Trap is on fire. I don't know about "he'll always be fielded", there's no more requirement to have a player from each race. Another thing I thought about: Prime will lose more; Sacsri is on SKT1, which will win more. That team win is a small but probably useful +1.
oh I just saw your team, we're so similar wow, soO and Trap on anti, Zest and Kassia on main. Nice. Let's see who gets more points

Week 2 day 1 and 2: still top 100 (rank 64), but with mixed results.
The bad:
TY, my heavy hitter, has not been worth the 8 points so far, with 1-2. I think he's still got time to make up for it.
Zest also lost, twice, but I can't complain, he's won me 12 pts so far.
IM won, which gives me -2 since I have 2 IM players on anti
Kassia lost and his trade value will be quite low now, he's a high candidate for trading next week, if there's anyone left to trade with. But I didn't have high expectations from him.
Mkp lost but I expected it.
The good:
Rogue finally won.
True won, might trade him if he doesn't play.
Jin air won.
I didnt lose too much from my anti. I surely hope soO doesnt win and then win again as ace, because that would seal the ddeal, and cost me a lot of points in the long run.

YessS! soO not only didn't win/didn't play, he LOST against one of my main players. Even if SKT won, his trade value went DOWN! So if I need to trade soO away from my anti next week, I HAVE SO MANY MORE OPTIONS: Hydra, Fantasy, Solar, Stork, DRG, Super.
My trades were great last week, I avoided a -8 by Trap and gained 4 points from Turn. MKP won 1 game.
TY and Rogue have underperformed but they will be fielded a lot so they're here to stay.
Looking at the top 2 players so far, Juggsondrugs and jubil, I realize I should've put Trap on my main team - that would mean to trade off MarineKing and keep Kassia. Anyway, still top 300, and in great position to finish top 100. I managed to keep my anti losses to a minimum. I think it might be time to trade more aggressively for the big bucks, not just to avoid losses(maybe trade TY off for someone else that plays twice against worse players like Trap did last night)

This week killed me. From #91 to a bottom #823. DRG winning really killed me (who thought he would be picked for the Ace?) and he was fielded a total of 3 times with MVP winning, which I also never predicted given the lineups.
Oh well, there's always week 3.

yeah, you were unlucky to pick DRG and Trap at the same time on your anti. Trading away Trap was a must, there was no other choice, so there was nothing you could do. If you had traded away DRG instead of Trap you'd have 1 less point and less options in trading Trap away next week. I also have a feeling Trap will win more than DRG.

Yeah, unlucky anti plus my non-earners on my main. Jila and Sora were lowballs that I picked because they were Protoss and they were playing Week 1 and I really expected CJ to do better than they are.

Heh, that's rule #1 in how I made my team, it's been working so far for me!
1. Main team: If they're not playing, don't have them on your team! You're not playing? You're not making me any points.
So when you saw that Jila doesn't play at all in week 2, you should've traded Jila off at the beginning of this week. It's been working out OK for me: Turn won me some points in week 1, but wasn't fielded in week 2, so he was off! I got True, who won me 4 points.

Yeah. In hindsight I should have traded Jila for TRUE and Sora for Swagger, which were two trades I contemplated, but didn't make.

Sacsri for Choya (yes choya plays vs herO but it's a PvP and choya is unpredictable. The other options in Armani and state are sure losses. I haven't seen state play a long game because he got cheesed, while choya played a longer game.)
TY(BaBy) for PartinG (my risky move of the week. Yes, TY has one easy game, but Parting plays twice so he has the potential to give me more points)
soO for Stork Anti Team(gotta be safe and 100% sure I won't lose points).

Made the same anti team trade and I traded shitty Sora for Shine, who plays twice and might win one of them because he's nuts.
Unfortunately, I'm still stuck with Jila. Nobody I can trade him for is either playing or going to win their games.

I wouldn't bother trading Sacsri away, he is at least nice to have for SKT winning points. Choya, State, and Armani are all practically guaranteed to lose, so...

you're right it's not worth the -1 trading point when keeping Sacsri will give me +2 for SKT possibly winning twice.
Instead I have traded TRUE for Shine as well; even though he has 2 hard ZvPs against herO and Creator, he's got more chances of giving me points this week than TRUE.
of the 3 (Armani Choya State), Choya has the highest chances IMO to win. He's not good in a macro game but it's best of 1 and he's unpredictable
I'm pretty sure this week I'll hop back in top 100, maybe even top 60.

Week 3 day 1
The bad:
PartinG lost to SoS. This was my "ballsy" move, didn't pay out.
The good
Rogue won vs Rain (yess Rogue is earning his 5 points)
Shine won vs HerO (wow, didn't expect that, but at least one of my trades payed out, jeez!)
Jin air won (3-0 against SKT's top lineup of protoss! they're a keeper)
Mvp lost his ace match(whew, that was an avoided blow that I didn't see coming).
Great day overall, I'll jump in top 50, but man, trading TY for Parting... such a missed opportunity, had I traded TY for Roro, I would have won 7 points in just 1 night(2 for win, 1 ace appearance, 3 for ace, 1 for team win, an additional +1 for 3-game win streak). Now how's that for an inspired trade? And I bet Roro will win next game against Fantasy too. What bugs me the most is I didn't even consider trading TY for Roro.
Holy crap, Solar in FPL, cost 7 points and 0-3, WOW!!! I am so glad I didn't pick him and got Rogue instead. Had Solar cost 6 points I would have considered him more, and at 5 points I might have gotten him
I am 99% certain I will be in top 300 at the end of round 2 (which was my goal), maybe even top 100. If I had done 2 trades (last week to put Trap on my main and this week to put Roro isntead of Parting) I would have been a contender to win round 2 FPL. But top 100 will be great too.
As it stands now, someone that has Roro, Creator, Zest, Classic, Cure(what the heck who expected him to get so many points) in their main will gonna win this.

Cure has been an solid terran player for Team 8/Jin Air, he's just not as popular as Maru, Flash, or FanTaSy so his value is usually pretty low during drafts.
As far as last night's games, my Shine bet paid off, now let's just see if he can beat Classic.

Good enough so far with yesterday's points, up to rank 52
Zest made me some points last night, but with TY winning convincingly and Parting losing the night before, I am starting to regret my trade even more. Parting better eat Reality alive!
Rank 82 so far and MKP even though he lost, is looking good. Tomorrow I should stay in top100 with at least 3 points from rogue, parting or Jin Air. I don't think shine can take it vs herO but he'sbe worth it for now.
I must say, not having the overpriced Flash and Rain on my main worked out great. They just don't earn enough points for their cost.
I feel like I got the hang of fpl and I'll be in top 300 no matter what from now on, the trick is to start wk1 with players that play twice in your main and players that don't play at all in anti. Then trade following the same principle.

Man, fuck this DRG guy. He is totally ruining my anti team, and I can't believe he beat Flash. And Billowy beat Stats! It was a crazy night for MVP.

You're actually not doing too bad, but you made a mistake by not trading drg away(or did u have no other choices?). He's a player with potential to go for ace, I hope you're not stuck with him. I knew there was a chance soO might play and win, and even if he didn't even play, and was scheduled to play vs Maru, I still traded him away, I don't want to take any chances.

I know right. Seriously though, DRG played against Flash this week and I was like "No way in hell does DRG take this, considering TvZ is arguably Flash's best matchup." And then it happened. And then MVP beat KT.
FPL? More like FML.
Edit: Also, DRG was pretty highly valued and I didn't want top trade him up for someone who I thought was better and then be stuck. Is okay; more GG more skill.

Not bad for a first time FPL where I actually thought logically about it, but my TY -> Parting trade was bad. TY is now at 6.49 while Parting at 4.68, just from Parting losing once and TY winning once. I could've even traded TY for Byul, who won once and is now at 5.16, giving me the option to trade him for Soulkey if I must. Not to mention the +8 points or so that I would've gained from trading TY for Roro. I learned my lesson... TY, who was gonna play a TvP vs a weaker opponent (Yeah he won the ace but lost against TY. Recently buffed T/nerfed P) for Parting who had scheduled:
- 1 coin flippy PvP vs sOs, one of the best P in the world.
- 1 game that had the potential of not being played after a 3-0, which is what ended up happening
Now I'm in a dilemma: Jin Air has 2 matches left in week 4 and none in week 5, while KT has 1 in week 4 and 2 in week 5. Should I trade Jin Air for KT this week? Because after week 4 I won't be able anymore, Jin Air's trade value will be 0. KT has a game vs SKT, then 2 easy games vs IM and Prime. I think KT will not mess around anymore and will only send TY, Flash, Zest, and Stats.
Still, Rogue was finally worth it, and he only cost 5 points. Good thing I didn't trade him. Anti team losses are minimized. I am feeling good about these last 2 weeks. Stork will have to be traded away from Anti.

Finally got to trade away that fucker DRG for sOs, who isn't playing this week and can't play next week because Jin Air has no more matches.
Also traded Jila for Pigbaby, because he plays and maybe wins? PvPs can be toss ups. He'll at least get points for more Jin Air wins.
And traded Shine for Hurricane because he was cheap, plays twice, and will probably win one of them (vs KeeN).

Of course jin air loses without sos and rogue, and I'm now stuck with the team, and 3 jin air players whose trade value will be 0. They better win their next game or I can say bye-bye to top300.
Of course TY starts wining after I trade him away.
The only thing keeping me alive is zest and mkp, and minimizing losses on anti. Wow did I botch this at the last moment or what...

The bad... Jin Air got 0-3'd and Cure lost both his games. Should've traded Rogue for someone else, that maybe plays in week5. Now I'm stuck with Cure. I got on the Cure bandwagon too late.
The good
MKP giving me 7 points in Week 4, wow! Keeping me in top 300.
Zest, as always, great captain, giving me 4 points.
Terminator gave me 4 points although I'm now stuck with him for week 5. At least one of my trades was OK this week.
But I can't help but write a new rule for next round: No more high pointers (7pts or 8pts) from SKT or IM players in my main! A 6 pointer from these teams that doesn't play in week 1 is great for for an anti pick in week 1, like soo.. But players like Rain, Soulkey, Parting? Just not worth it to have them on your team, unless they play every week - but look at Soulkey, even he didn't play last week. SKT and IM are just TOO STACKED and their players will not play enough games to make it worth their point values (which are usually 6, 7 or 8 pts). I got burned by having Rain as my captain last round, this time I got burned by doubting TY and trading him for Parting... why oh why did I doubt TY? Plays every week and yes, lost a little more when he was on my team, but the moment I trade him away, he goes on a winning streak. It's like Murphy's law here... same thing happened to Cure: gets 3 wins and looks impressive, but when I get him on my team, loses twice.
