ABOUT WRITING
The thing I've enjoyed writing about the most is business related; I like it because business is all about theory that works, so I don't like getting into a topic which is too theoretical or moral etc, I like that it's down and dirty and at the heart of it, its about ambition, will power, competition and that's pretty exciting stuff- thrown in some geishas and other sexy ladies, exotic locations and voila, great stories for the ambitious TL's who like an adventurous big brother's stories.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
But in the last year and a half, I've been on the same project, and it's drained me, I reckon/hope/guess we are 2 weeks off from market launch, but I've been wrong many times this year and while I'm far more in control of things and on top of things, the project is extremely complex and sensitive and I just can't write details here, just in case. So the last six months has been especially rough, I've had to cut off contact with everyone who wasn't directly related to my work simply because so much as been on the line, just so much, I can't explain, but anyway, writing about business or my experiences in business is a bit counterproductive at this point. I'm fine, things are relatively good, and looking up, but I'm not as cavalier as I use to be, far more cautious in my own expectations, that being said, I'm still going full out.

ABOUT THE LAUNCH
Pretty much solved every major issue, nearly got my old team together and some new faces, and I have some very strong partners on board as well. I managed to go to my first real Geisha house, it was as wonderful as I could have ever imagined, ate with some sumos at their training house, visited a few new places in China this year, and few to Europe a couple of times in the last few months. Things aren't settled as we haven't launched yet, I feel like I've finally built the starship enterprise version 1, but I'm not sure if the warp drive is really going to work as expected or that my photon torpedoes are going to be enough for whatever is out there, but I'm good, I'm Captain Kirk, whatever alien females I meet, I'll screw and whatever evil competition is out there, I'll give'em the the ol' one two punch, then flip and tag em with my phaser.

BLANK
The only thing I haven't figure out is what I can contribute to TL, I can't really write about business or my experience in business for a while longer, its just a bit too sensitive. From the last 6 months I've been absent from TL on all levels and it's not something I wanted to do, but when I realized I really couldn't write about my travels or work in detail and I wasn't ready to open up an ask me anything about being a man Korean style, well, I thought about what I could write and came up blank.

ABOUT A BOOK
So what I'd rather do then is leave you with a book you should read, cause it is a great book, and I got so much out of it, in that it simply is an extremely well written book on so many levels; I'd say it is nearly as good a 'Good to Great'. It's not a heavy book, but I think it is a clear simple and significant book. The title is 'The power of Habit' by Charles Duhigg, It's not a self help book etc, and while I think I can apply the business principles easily enough, the personal ones, not so. But I think without getting into details about it, it is one of the better books I have read in the last 3 years, and I think that is saying a lot.

If R1ch could link this to the TL amazon code, I think it would be appropriate, but suffice to say, I think it is a great book and even if I'm not able to write much nowadays, I'd like to share that with you guys.

I'M GOOD
I don't know if I'll ever write about what I've really gone through in the last 4 years, I don't know if that will ever be appropriate to share on a publicly, but anyways, miss you always TL, I hope I can do all the things I want to do to support TL when I have sorted out this project.

But I'll say, the visit to the Geisha House was soooooooooo wonderful, like you wouldn't believe. It's pretty much the same experience you would have gotten 100 years ago. So the last 4 years have had their very good nights as well, just a handful, but enough ^^

Happy new years and good luck-

Best,
MA Primal Machine Mode.

what do you think about korean work culture? I like the socializing part after work which is why I would like to try working in SK after finishing university.

It's brutally tough, not because its a lot of work, but because the hours can be unnecessarily long, and things are not very efficient in a systematic way and deadlines are nutty, but yet, everything always gets done and done properly (that may be debatable, but as long as it gets the results lol).

SK would be one of the more progressive companies, more so that Samsung, but still it is all relative. The socializing after work 'hwae-shik' can be official or informal with your buddies (in which case it is just normal socializing), but a lot of the younger generations don't like it as they think they are being forced to drink, especially the women, but if you like that kind of thing, then you're in the right place (I personally liked it too). But if you can work outside of Korea for a top firm, and get placed back into Korea as an expat, that is like 25TIMES better. Learning to work like a corporate Korean has its plus and minuses, but if you are extremely results oriented and have an exceptional critical thinking mind then you may find it extremely frustrating to work in a Korean corporate environment.

But, if you like being part of a team and don't mind doing things under the umbrella that nothing is impossible and throw yourself at every project in an irrational but somehow 'it works' way, then maybe it would be fine, but again, if you're not Korean Korean or want to be Korean, then you're simply not going to survive the work process anyways. ^^

Yay a Mighty Atom blog.

That book looks good, and it got a nice review in the Economist. I'll get it when the TL link is put up.
In general is there a catch all link we can use to buy stuff through TL? I get a lot of books on Amazon, and it'd be great to support TL as I do it.

It's great that you're about to launch, so if it pans out great, we'll hear about it.

The work culture is just something I need to appreciate, living in a country where corporate culture varies radically from firm to firm instead of being a general constant doesn't really help with after-work social connections.

Happy new year MightyAtom! although I suppose yours is a few weeks away still. Was wondering how you were doing so it's great to hear from you. I hope you can share your product with us and tell us all about it, once it's ready.

I think the link will be http://www.amazon.ca/dp/1400069289?tag=tealiq09-20 (tag stolen from SC2 links in TL store) but it doesn't seem to confirm the referral anywhere on the page, so better wait for a TLer to provide an official answer...

So....Was the Geisha house a really traditional and old style one? That disregards a certain Mizuage law bought in around 1959???

Just wondering if that was the reason it was "awesome"

Really traditional and old style, one of the top 3 in Tokyo (I don't know the other 2);
The room itself was large but with no decorations at all;
there were two small stages, one at the entrance of the room and one behind the main table,
with the 4 of us, there where 3 geishas, at the ages of early 20's, early 30's and early 50's.
in the front stage they performed a dance which was something like a thousand years old,
in the room there were only women serving us and we had the 5 kinds: beer, sake, wine, whisky and champagne.
We played a few traditional drinking games whereby the 50's year old geisha played a traditional string instrument as part of the rhythm of the game.

This particular Geisha house is membership only, the way membership is granted is by an introduction by another patron; but in doing the introduction, the patron is forever obligated that whoever they introduce- they are responsible to pay their bill should the person they introduce is unable to pay- so there is no money exchanged on the premise, rather a bill for the night is sent to the company.

But the awesome part was their charm which has been at least 200 years in the making of the form and mannerisms; I mean, you can't understand how absolutely encompassing their charm was, with a playful attention which was exactly right, their serving of the drinks and food which was never intrusive, but simply timed right without ever looking as though they were trying to please, but rather that you never had a chance to feel anything but being completely taken care of. A kind of social dance that makes a man feel as though time has no meaning that you're just in the moment of being utterly adored in a way that seemed natural and right. That in that night, that everything was just perfect.

But I've been told that in Kyoto that particular law never was really enforced ^^

Oh wow so jealous MightyAtom!
Sounds like a dream evening for me. Glad you an awesome time and even more happy that you were able to share it. Next time, VIDEOOOOOOOOO

Traditional Japan is just so beautiful it is crazy how they are one of the leading tech countries of the world when you think of what they were doing just a few decades ago. (or more )

if anyone was wondering (like me) what this mizuage thing is, apparently it's when someone is ready to become a geisha they get a party sponsored by some guy who then gets the right to take her virginity and never talk to her again. the mizuage law then banned this practice.

anyone feel free to correct me, this was just lifted off of wikipedia

always enjoy MA blogs
