If the climate shouldn't be too cold/hot, I'd go to germany, since it's a less conservative, more meaningful version of Austria with better football. (though worse beer... if you come for the beer, just go to the czech republic to begin with; and in germany, stay close to the Austria/Czech borders)
And I think it's better than most other middle European countries in germany, economically/politcally speaking. Though I'm not too sure about France... but it's France, you don't want the whole world making jokes about you eating snails and frogs.

But seriously, germany has lots of options, and a great culture/history. Even the dark side of germany's history actually has a great effect on today's germany: it's one of the most restrictive countries in the world when it comes to dealing with politcally unacceptable parties/opinions.

Come to America! We don't have any tax breaks for millionaires, crazy religious zealots, or gutted science funding!

Today is opposite day right?

I live in Australia and we recently voted for the biggest joke of all time to be our Prime Minister.

In his short period as leader he has basically obliterated anything resembling science and pushed though massive tax cuts to millionaires. I cannot even begin to list the shit that I don't like that he stands for and is doing because it would take too long. He is a super conservative Christian and is completely incompetent at speaking and communicating. The worst thing is he is actually popular. Many of my friends are talking up this cretin and his ridiculous policies.

So basically I want to move country. Somewhere secular and non-violent with decent employment and non-harsh weather. Somewhere active and progressive. Not worried about languages I can learn them. Danes, Belgians, Germans, Czechs etc, what do you like about where you live?

As for sweden:

secular

Most definitely.

non-violent

Check.

non-harsh weather

Can be cold, but not too bad.

massive tax cuts

Not likely to happen here.

decent employment

Damnit.

I can't speak for housing, but Germany is pretty cheap otherwise.

Do you have some sources for your claims about Tony Abbott? I always take opportunities like this to get educated about international politics, but there doesn't seem to be too many good sources I can get off the internet on this guy.
No problem if you can't provide sources, but it would be welcome if you could toss some my way.

Wow Tony Abbot sounds like our Prime Minister but 100x worse. Its funny how conservatives think alike. Our PM started silencing scientists too, undoing environmental regulations and basically becoming a mouthpiece for pure corporate power. Literally the only reason our PM goes abroad for is to secure economic deals to make it easier to do business. Not to mention the backwards decision of making our prison system more like the US which every expert and every study says is a bad idea.

Oh yeah and then there's pushing for the oil sands as much as possible while we're in the midst of a global climate crisis. Although our environment minister makes a fair point that Canada still only contributes 2% as a whole to global CO2 emissions, its just sad that our leadership seems focused on sending exactly the wrong message to the global community on this issue. I feel for you...in general it seems like the Earth is kind of screwed though regardless who was elected. It seems like its the decade of the conservatives in every country except the US, although you could argue Obama is basically a conservative compared to what liberalism used to be in that country.

Haha, this thread has turned into: "Let me tell you how much my country sucks too!"

I'll still throw in a vote for Germany though. And I've got a soft spot for the Netherlands, despite not knowing much about it.

How are Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales doing these days anyways?

The website of his political party. Particularly their official news releases. It's not really hidden.

This is because he almost never speaks in public. He's totally incompetent.

I agree with Cloud when it comes to your reason(s) for leaving. But since you're probably pretty young still, if you want to give it a shot what the heck, go for it.
Here's Hotbid's blog about moving from NY to Utrecht/Netherlands (interesting stuff about the Netherlands but the moral of the story is German bread owns).

Any European bread owns in my experience. I haven't been in the US but I hear it's pretty terrible there, and trust me, it's downright awful in Japan and Korea.

Well Norway got a new awesome prime minister and ruling partys that made taxcuts for the rich while fucking students and the elderly over. Oh and they decreased the taxation for buying luxury cars but increased it for normal cars and hybrids. Then they removed government support for schools and kindergardens to buy fruit to the children, made a law that doctors can refuse to perform abortions if they don't "believe" in abortion. Pretty much what everyone with half a brain knew in the election, the rich get richer with the right partys but no, people believed their bullshit about "being the new workers party" and the first things they do while in office pretty much 100% is for the rich only.

Me and the fiance make slightly above the limit for tax cuts so we get like 300 euros more a year yay! Totally worth not having children getting fruit in school and letting students study fulltime and work fulltime to stay afloat!
