The title is a little misleading but as it says: "I watch Starcraft like it's TV but can't enjoy it", I watch an awful lot of Starcraft but I just can't enjoy PLAYING it for a length of time.

I don't know if anyone else has this problem where they'll watch a tournament or players streaming and be like "I'm going to go hop into a game and destroy a guy" but hardly ever win? I feel like my mechanics as a Terran are good but I just can't win a lot of games. I know practice makes perfect but there must be some sort of way to not get annoyed at losing and keep playing till I win.

If anyone can give me a tip or share how they deal with stress after losing a game to then carry on playing I would greatly appreciate it.

A final note though I should mention that I don't shake my fist at the screen in anger I would just quit after a loss or two where I would actually want to carry on playing.

Cheers guys.

Why are you trying ? It's perfectly fine ! A lot of people watch sports that they don't play or enjoy playing.

Play for fun. And if you like to watch the game and not play it.. IT IS FINE

Dude it's just a game.. just play for fun, if you don't have fun when loosing atleast try specific stratagies that you saw ere effective and fun in a game!

Everytime I feel horribly stressed (and frustrated, of course) after losing a game, I make myself play another game to strengthen my mentality. Once you do this for a while, you'll feel that you aren't as stressed as you were before.

Learn to not take yourself too seriously.

Expect and really embrace blunders or misplays that will inevitably come your way, see the funny side of it and treat yourself (and your opponent!) with a joke or a funny remark about it. Getting a bad marine vs blings trade specifically comes to mind! :D
There comes a certain kind of freedom with sharing details of your loss with someone, whether it's the person you played against or someone you know, instead of trying to shove it aside and worry about defeat or losing ladder points..

If it was a close game, stay positive and commend the person on their play. Realize why it was so, so you can really mean it instead of just typing it for the sake of it.
Try to create a friendly environment where you feel like it's two people "providing" the fun for each other, enjoying the process, rather than fighting an obstacle that's in your way towards the victory screen.
Enjoy the match itself.

I used to get upset over losses, balance, points or whatnot but with this kind of mentality I honestly don't even feel the loss.
Recently applied the same to my Dota games, and now I'm having a blast regardless of how the games go! :3
Realize that we are all casual baddies compared to the pros, so try to have fun with the ride. ^^

Hope that helps!

When I sit down at my keyboard, I do it to play some Starcraft, not to win or lose.

I find that one of the most relaxing things to do when someone beats you is to gg. If someone owns me with some cheese or something, i might even ggwp. It's almost like the gg is me saying

"You were better than me that game, i'm going to learn from it".

Think to yourself, when you lose, what do you actually lose? Ladder points! If you get stressed over ladder points I would stop playing SC and try to enjoy life more.

Praise the sun! \o/

You're setting yourself to standards that are too high for the amount of effort you put in. Gaming as good as the other people on ladder, for most people, means playing a lot of games. 20 game days are like starcraft pushups lol. its not even fun after a while but you push yourself and then you're as good as you want to be.

Stress- is it good or bad for playing? Stress clouds your thought. It is caused by wanting things to go the way you want them to and being scared that they will not. This causes tunnel vision as well as unpleasantness. WHen i play drunk (lol)
i do 2 gates and 4 gates and they get scouted i'm just like "heheheh you see my hand!? let me play it anyways and see watcha got!" and i lose more but i learn more.. so there you go
hold on! i'm callin' you back to the pool, and we'll dazzle them all!

I had this problem arise after reaching a certain level.

I went on the korean server as a barcode this season, now i am a 1800(100 BP left) pts on the KR server.

I never reached 1500pts when playing in my "hardcore" days because I kept switching accounts(like 3-4 account) because I had this stupid thing called ladder anxiety.

the korean server made me feel like even though I lost, I most likely lost to someone better player than me

when I lose on NA my mindset is that hes a faggit and most likely a hacker.

Funny how my mind works. lol.

My tip : warm up before hitting the ladder, so that even if you lose you'll still feel on fire.

I think if you want to be good at a game like starcraft you have to look at ladder like going to the gymn. The key to improving is to play every single day and to play a lot of times when you don't really feel like it. The joy from sc2 comes from improving and seeing yourself progress. It takes a couple thousand games for most people to hit master league or higher so it makes sense that it stops being fun in a casual way after a while. If being good at sc2 is important to you then commit. Otherwise it might be better to find a different hobby and just watch tournaments.

It is cool. Like I don't really enjoy playing or watching SC II anymore at all. But there isn't a problem with it. If you enjoy it do it, if not don't do it.

do what i do when you have a lead in a game.
EXPAND... dont attack.

its more fun.. it turns it into an hour long epic that you'll win.
sometimes ..for added fun... i take a good look at my opponent's army composition and i build the worst possible army to fight his.

sometimes i lose games employing this 2nd strategy that i would otherwise win.
but its fun.

I for myself am a lot like you, since i watched StarCraft since ever but bought the game not before it was about a year old. I played the campaign, but i do not have any ranked matches or such since i do not like to play the multiplayer that much.
BUT, that's not a thing why i should not enjoy watching others play the game.
Therefore i just can say: Keep enjoying the game whilst watching it, that's not bad at all =)
