I also think the kind of attention a girl gets in esports depends a lot on how she presents herself to the community. If a female gamer presents herself sexually, like tara babcock, then she can expect people to respond to her sexually. Everything she does will be framed in that light, the same way that popular/infamous streamers like idra, destiny, and avilo have all of their content framed in a certain light as well. I think the best example of a female gamer being treated reletivaly (and surprisingly) fair by the community is Scarlett. Considering her rather unique circumstances, I think overall the community has been very mature and respectful to her. It could also be said that, do to her unique circumstances, she hasn't been sexualized nearly as much as other female progamers, and the community reactions to her might have something to do with that. I think its because she behaves exactly like a progamer and performs like one too, making her largely indistinguishable from her male peers. | ||
