Hey guys,

do you know the feeling of having 10.000 songs in your library and "nothing to listen to"?

I know I do, which might have something to do with the fact that I'm mostly stuck on rock music, in all its various sub-genres.

So from now on, I'm going to listen to any album you guys recommend, one album a day, and listen to it intently and stonedly. I will then document what I thought of the album, usually briefly, perhaps in more detail should I really like what I heard.

I'll preferably listen to music that is novel to me, but if you have an album that is especially dear to you, just say so and I might give it a more thorough listening to, regardless of it's novelty or lack thereof.

Please only recommend stuff you would voluntarily listen to yourself, there's only so many Justin Beaver jokes you can make before they become stale.

Really looking forward to your recommendations!

Cheers!

Day 1: Bonobo - Black Sands

Impressions:

Definitely going into my high-mix and my "music-to-fuck-to"-mix!

Bonobo - Black Sands!
Since its probably new to you, you're better off just believing its a great album, without me giving a detailed description of it.
Have fun!

That's the first one.

Pirating iTunes-ing it now! Literally no idea what to expect.

For something more in your comfort zone, I'd recommend Dio - Holy Diver. Can't go too wrong with heavy metal from the 80s.

For something a little bit different, I'd recommend Tarja - What Lies Beneath, or Nightwish - Imaginaerum. Both are Symphonic/Gothic metal. It sounds odd as a genre, but it works out really well. Most symphonic/gothic metal bands are essentially metal bands with classically trained vocalists, normally female.

Vangelis - Spiral for some 1980's orchestral synth music

Here's the opening track (my favourite Vangelis track as well) for a preview:

If u want to explore new borders, i can only recommend you Wheater Systems from Anathema. Its kinda progressive rock, about with a very special and emocial touch. Have fun with it!

I was thinking heavily and listenging to some stuff to decide what to suggest to you, as I only wanted to suggest one thing. The thing Is, I usually do not listen to albums, I make compilations of my favourite songs, I usually end with playlist of 100different artists^^. However, because there are so few bands I can stand listening to for a complete album, I basicly circled between those few, then I saw that you are from germany...If you speak germany also, I want to suggest "Die Prinzen - Das Leben ist Grausam (A Cappella Album)" (even though I always have to add Bombe from Küssen verboten to complete the album :d ).

I haven`t decided what to suggest to you if you do not speak german, so tell me and I keep thinking about it. :d

Stratovarius - Elements, Pt. 1 - very wide range between power and symphonic metal.

It's a very polarizing album, hardly anyone seems to think it's mediocre; most say it's either a complete waste of time or it's an arcane masterpiece. I'm in the second group of people and I get something new with every listen, but it's always interesting to see which side of the fence others fall on. Definitely recommend!

subscribing to this thread, doing the same

my contribution:

Kill Hannah - Hope for the Hopeless (youtube)

It's... a mix of alternative and a bunch of older stuff. I can't really describe but they've been my favorite band for a long time.
OKAY FROM THAT PERSPECTIVE I SEE WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT

Should I be suggesting albums that are less likely for you to have heard before? If not, my favorite is:

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd

If you've already listened to that then:

This Is It - The Strokes

I second Kendrick Lamar.

And btw he's right. The delivery is super quick for most rappers. You'll miss most of what they say without the lyrics in front of you

Listen to the entire discography of Brand New! (It's only 4 albums, don't worry). Just listen to them during four consecutive days and thank me later.

Album one:

Album two:

Album three: http://m.youtube.com/#/playlist?list=PLVaQZ-ZFAzxRsVriI69ljYTXUBx9jw2gX&desktop_uri=/playlist?list=PLVaQZ-ZFAzxRsVriI69ljYTXUBx9jw2gX. (It's very crucial that you listen to the third album in order. I suggest looking up lyrics to these songs as you
listen.

I second Nujabes, any of his albums are good, just depends whether you prefer more of a hip-hop flair, or more of a jazz flair.
